"As a fan of seaweed salad, I had high hopes, but this one was a disappointment. It consisted of four different types of seaweed that you had to dress yourself, and it just didn't work for me. I haven't felt that let down since John Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2007. However, the sushi platter for two completely redeemed my experience at Takahachi. Priced at $59, the portion size was generous, and the fish was incredibly fresh. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish. The only disappointment on the platter was the shrimp nigiri; honestly, I don't understand how anyone enjoys shrimp nigiri. In my opinion, it simply doesn't measure up to the quality of the other nigiri on the plate. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be back. This has become my new go-to sushi spot in the East Village. You can find me on Instagram @jnov_ and on TikTok @jnov_."

Not great. This is average quality fish. Didn't get sick but left a lot on the plate because some of it just wasn't tasty.

Great, affordable place for sushi in the East Village. The staff is always very kind and friendly and it's a very no frills, straight to the point place. Would recommend!

The establishment was small but well managed. We ordered the seaweed salad, edamame, pumpkin tempura, and a bunch of rolls. The sushi was good and the prices were reasonable. Servers were quick as well.

It was my first visit to NYC, and we chose this restaurant to satisfy a sushi craving. We arrived just after they opened at 5 PM. The atmosphere was inviting, the host was friendly, the service was attentive, and the sushi was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it—10/10! By the way, the miso soup was fantastic and just $3! View menu

Very good food, seems very affordable at first glance but the portions are quite small when they come out. Try and get a few items to share. We loved the pepper tuna appetizer, and the sushi is wonderful. It does come out in waved, so not everyone will have all of their food at the same time. Just eat and enjoy! There was a wait, even on a weeknight so be prepared. Very limited selection of drinks, but still fun!

Very delicious. My cousin ordered for us and we had many rolls and my favorite was the miso cod. It was so tender and melts in your mouth! The service was excellent. The waitress was standing close by our table for most of the dinner and kept double checking to see if we need anything. The meal was $170 for five people. Not including the tips. I think that's the ongoing rate... It's definitely higher than what we are used to in California. But this is New York and in a big city. So you have to pay extra for quality

My local sushi joint for 25 years. When I leave New York for extended periods I have to come here as soon as I get back to feel back at home. Don't let the no-frills fool you. The sushi is some of the best and most authentic in the city. The goma ae and brocolli rabe goma are superb as is the kinpira. The seafood soup on a cold day hit just right and of course, all of the sushi is melt-in-your-mouth amazing. My favorite roll is the Winter Roll and one of these days I want to try their soba soup but it's hard when delicious sushi abounds. Highly recommended! View menu

I've previously sung the praises of this restaurant, and I'm writing again to specifically highlight the tempura. I want to emphasize the wonderfully light batter—it’s just perfect. I do have a heads-up, though, which isn’t a negative point. The tempura is offered a la carte, and I assumed each order was for one piece, but it turns out it's actually two. So, I ended up with double what I expected, which is the kind of problem you love to have! While I often dine here because it’s located right above a jazz club I frequent, I appreciate this restaurant for more than just its location.

Went for dinner tonight sushi tasted decent, but portions were comically small. The special rolls (marked as big rolls are only 5 pieces, most of it consisting of rice. I 've never seen a special roll that 's less than 6 pieces, usually they 're closer to 8. We also ordered the tuna tartare which genuinely could not be more than 2 inches in diameter. We spent $85 between two people, no alcohol, and left hungry. The prices seem reasonable at first glance, but for the quality and crazy small portion sizes i would recommend splurging a bit more somewhere else with larger, higher quality rolls.

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
