"I was a big Jesse Shenker fan. My husband and I both loved the food at Recette, where we dined on a number of occasions. The menu was creative, the presentation outstanding and the food delicious. I was disappointed when Recette closed, but had high hopes for The Gander. I had dinner there a number of months ago, and basically enjoyed it, without being wowed. Last Saturday night my husband and I dined there with a friend. We sat in the Bar Room. We ordered an array of dishes to share among the three of us. The charred cauliflower was delicious, but the anchovies that were to top the dish (which we mercifully asked to be served on the side were awful (and we are anchovy lovers . They were oddly fishy and did nothing to complement the cauliflower. We ordered the salt cod fritters, which we ordered almost every time we ate at Recette, where they were always presented in a small cast iron pot. They were served in a bowl (ok and just weren 't as good as they have been in the past (I had ordered them the last time I ate at The Gander. . Something seemed different about the lamb ragout and it was really disappointing. It wasn 't as flavorful as usual. The beef tartar was tasteless a tremendous disappointment. It seemed to be a jar of chopped meat, with no visible quail egg and no other added seasoning at all, as traditional beef tartar generally has. The fork and knife Caesar was also disappointing kind of flavorless. The bucatini, which I expected to love was not very good the bottarga, which usually adds a slightly salty taste to pasta was fishy tasting rather than salty. The Bronzino was not bad, but again was a rather bland preparation. Our reservation was for 9:30 on a Saturday night. The Bar Room was almost empty and the dining room was only partly filled. Maybe The Gander does better on weekday nights, with an afterwork crowd. If not, it doesn 't look as if it will survive much longer. Jesse needs to be true to his talents. He can do much better than this!"

While the food at this restaurant is fantastic, the wine list is unreasonably pricey, with most bottles costing over $100 rather than under. Additionally, the service was only average, so I cannot recommend this place and will not be returning.

Food was mediocre. Ordered fish of the day which we were informed was cod, our plates came out and were salmon. Cesar salads were drenched in dressing, we returned and was still on our bill. One guest ordered scallops, later informed no scallops, still on bill. View menu

Absolutely phenomenal. Food was out of this world we had the chef's tasting menu which was four courses and a great deal for the quality and amount of food. Chef even accommodated our dietary restrictions. Great wine list, hip ambience, great service. Run, don't walk here!

My husband and I grabbed an early dinner here one night before a party and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We particularly liked the scallops and the pork belly. We were not fans of the marinated olives. We also enjoyed the octopus, although it was tad salty. Our waiter was attentive, but not too so. Atmosphere was very enjoyable. We could talk to each other, but still felt like we were in a hip scene. Totally recommend it.

I bought a GILT deal for a Feast for 4. The special this evening was Chicken, but since I was unable to reserve 24h ahead, we were served a delicious Lasagna! Our fabulous feast started with fried calamari, caesar salad (best i've had in years), Lasagna (very tasty but a tad spicy), and delicious garlic bread!! it was truly a feast , we were stuffed to the gills. would HIGHLY recommend coming with friends. Our wait staff was patient, warm and gave great suggestions! Thanks for a great evening! View menu

My friends and I dined at The Pub on Saturday night of Memorial Day Weekend. Surprisingly, the restaurant was very quiet, reflecting the overall peacefulness of NYC that day. Nonetheless, we had a delightful and lively dinner experience. All aspects of our meal were excellent, with the standout being the delicious food. The simple decor and attentive service also added to the enjoyment of our evening. While there was a hint of disorganization, we felt that with more demand, The Pub has the potential to become more streamlined. We wish them success in the future.

Every now and then, we find ourselves in need of an early dinner spot before a theatre event. It can be challenging to find a downtown restaurant that offers good, straightforward fare at a fair price. The Gander perfectly met our needs for our 4:30-6PM dinner. Their discounted house wines were delicious, and we were drawn to the accessible bar menu. We ordered two caesar salads and two different pasta dishes. While the portions were on the smaller side for the prices, they were just right for us and the quality was exceptional. The modern and cozy ambiance, with walnut wood accents and warm lighting, added to the overall experience. The 80s playlist was a bit out of place, but personally, I...

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
