"I was a big Jesse Shenker fan. My husband and I both loved the food at Recette, where we dined on a number of occasions. The menu was creative, the presentation outstanding and the food delicious. I was disappointed when Recette closed, but had high hopes for The Gander. I had dinner there a number of months ago, and basically enjoyed it, without being wowed. Last Saturday night my husband and I dined there with a friend. We sat in the Bar Room. We ordered an array of dishes to share among the three of us. The charred cauliflower was delicious, but the anchovies that were to top the dish (which we mercifully asked to be served on the side were awful (and we are anchovy lovers . They were oddly fishy and did nothing to complement the cauliflower. We ordered the salt cod fritters, which we ordered almost every time we ate at Recette, where they were always presented in a small cast iron pot. They were served in a bowl (ok and just weren 't as good as they have been in the past (I had ordered them the last time I ate at The Gander. . Something seemed different about the lamb ragout and it was really disappointing. It wasn 't as flavorful as usual. The beef tartar was tasteless a tremendous disappointment. It seemed to be a jar of chopped meat, with no visible quail egg and no other added seasoning at all, as traditional beef tartar generally has. The fork and knife Caesar was also disappointing kind of flavorless. The bucatini, which I expected to love was not very good the bottarga, which usually adds a slightly salty taste to pasta was fishy tasting rather than salty. The Bronzino was not bad, but again was a rather bland preparation. Our reservation was for 9:30 on a Saturday night. The Bar Room was almost empty and the dining room was only partly filled. Maybe The Gander does better on weekday nights, with an afterwork crowd. If not, it doesn 't look as if it will survive much longer. Jesse needs to be true to his talents. He can do much better than this!"

"I’m going to start this by saying I only leaving rating when a place is horrible or phenomenal. My boyfriend and I went to @marysvine followed by @thestudyatmarysvine just outside of Pittsburgh last night. First, the environment is unique for so many reasons. It doesn’t feel like a chain or that you are simply another number coming through the door. Having such a detailed, rich atmosphere, this place makes you feel special, almost regal. The wine room is beautiful to look at, as are the large windows and church organ. The service is knowledgeable and thorough, looking to make sure you have the best experience possible. The wine list is the largest I’ve seen in the area. Being able to see detailed photos of the seasonal food menu on iPads is wonderful. The food is thoughtful, and frankly, exquisite. The flavor of the pairings still makes my mouth water. Unlike other restaurants, we weren’t rushed, making it feel much more like an experience rather than an exchange. At the end of our meal, we quietly looked at each other and asked each other’s ranking of the evening up to that point. We agreed on 9.25 and couldn’t recall another experience we’ve ranked higher. Following dinner we headed downstairs to @thestudyatmarysvine where the entrance is enough to set the tone for the evening. You enter through a painting into what feels like another time. The smell of leather and cigars fills the air while your eyes look over the detailed couches, walls of books, and humidor. The iPad menu allow you to see the options with a beautiful photo and listed details of each crafted cocktail. You feel both relaxed and rewarded in The Study. As we sat in the leather chairs, we decided the rating jumped to 9.75. Although we feel more people need to know about the experience, we also like that it feels like a well kept secret outside of the city. This place would be perfect for a quality, luxurious birthday, anniversary, or intimate reception. I will absolutely recommend this place to everyone. We will be back. "My friends and I went out to Koen for the first time last night and it was the BEST dining experience so far. There were three of us, so we ordered the Samurai course. The appetizers were delicious and plentiful. The Samurai comes with several appetizers, but we also ordered the fried gyoza (very yummy! . We ate all the appetizers and they did their job by building an appetite, so we had plenty if room for the main course. Our server then turned on the grill and showed us (not told us how to use it so we could fully enjoy the experience. The grilling was probably the most fun. You have full control over how long your meats are cooked for. The Samurai comes with plenty of delicious meats, but we also ordered sliced short rib (definitely recommend! . The overall experience of the grilling makes the trip far more worth it. Then, after we were done with the main course, our server brought us tempura ice cream for dessert (also included in the Samurai package . We honestly didn't expect the large portion size we were given, so we were excited when he brought it out. It was TO DIE FOR!! All-in-all, you should definitely consider going to Koen with some friends or a date. The experience will definitely leave you wanting to come back (I'm checking with my friends on when we'll go next, lol . I will say, if you want to go on a night like Friday or Saturday, make a reservation. It was so busy last night that even with a reservation, we had to wait 30 minutes. We didn't mind, tho, because the food and experience didn't disappoint. Also, make sure you're planning to spend some because an experience as good as this won't be super cheap. If splitting with friends, expect to be paying between 30- 50 with tip (depends on what you order and how many friends you're dining with . Totally worth it, tho!!"
