"My aunt and I had lunch at Happy Sumo yesterday. My dad and uncle had been there the day before and recommended it, so I was expecting a good experience. I ordered the seafood tempura ($15), while my aunt opted for the samurai steak ($19). Although both dishes had decent flavor, I felt they were overpriced. There was no miso soup or salad offered with our meals, and the rice portion on my plate was just a small scoop—so I ended up ordering more. They charged me $3 for an extra bowl of rice! My dad had the same meal the previous day, but he received rice in a bowl and a salad with his order. By the end of our lunch, the bill for two people exceeded $50. You can get the same quality food for just $20 at Tokyo Teriyaki. If you're looking for authentic high-end Japanese cuisine, I recommend trying Domo downtown instead. Overall, Happy Sumo doesn't feel like a real Japanese restaurant. Signed by a genuine Japanese male."

I always love the sushi! My fiancé and I always choose to go here on date nights. this last time we were there the server was very attentive but wasn't the friendliest. But that's okay, still love this place every time. View menu

I am very picky about my sushi, but there is nothing I can say about this place other than WOW! Love the sushi, love the staff, and the environment is relaxing. Not the most lavish of decor but that’s not why you come here. You come for the sushi! I highly recommend the Mango Mama and the Samurai, you will not be disappointed! Friendly and attentive staff makes the experience very pleasant.

We've been to Happy Sumo several times now and the food is always consistently delicious. The service is friendly and prompt, and they have an extensive list of drinks to imbibe on if that's your thing. Good sushi in Colorado is fairly difficult to find so we appreciate this place quite a bit! Bartenders are also always attentive and ready to serve your next. Clean and welcoming. Excellent!

The server was friendly, but the service was almost non-existent and very slow. It seemed like the staff were more focused on their phones. The hostess did her job well, though she also spent a lot of time on her phone; at least she put it down to attend to customers. The spicy edamame tasted like it was just soaked in hot sauce with ketchup. However, the rest of our meal was delicious and beautifully presented. View menu

This restaurant should really be called Happy Yummy because everything here is fantastic. A friend and I visited one afternoon for an early dinner and happened to catch the happy hour. They offer amazing deals during this time, and we were very satisfied with everything we tried. The menu is diverse, and the sushi selections are so extensive that it's hard to choose everything in just one visit. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and we definitely plan to return!

This restaurant offers the widest selection of sushi rolls I've ever encountered, even surpassing my favorite spots in NYC, Florida, and several business destinations. The standard offerings like crab, tuna, salmon, shrimp, scallops, and mackerel are outstanding. They also serve halibut, eel, squid, and octopus, as well as a variety of fish roe including salmon, smelt, and flying fish eggs. The vegetable options range from asparagus and bell peppers to cucumber, green onions, zucchini, and more. Their eel sauce and ponzu sauce are excellent too. Beginners can start off slowly, but the more you visit, the bolder you'll feel to try new flavors! It's definitely worth multiple visits. They even...

"So I suppose it's up to the manager of a restaurant whether to replace a returned entree at no extra charge the customer for the uneaten food. Whatever the policy at Sakana (we didn't ask when we saw the item in question added to our bill, we didn't feel like getting into an argument), we still found the attitude of the server when my girlfriend didn't enjoy her spicy miso ramen to be unacceptable. Instead of simply offering a replacement when my girlfriend explained that she couldn't taste any miso in the broth, the lady server told us that the miso ramen tasted as intended and that adding more paste to the broth would make it too salty. It still didn't taste very good, but whatever. Fine. My gf orders the curry ramen instead. It's pretty decent, nothing to write home about. At the end of the meal, we get charged full price for the spicy miso even tho all she ate of it was the egg added at additional cost. Did not mention this before the bill came out. We probably would've moved on without complaint if we hadn't been talked down to when trying to replace the order or had the return policy more clearly explained to us. Will not be coming back due to this experience. I've been to better and more expensive restaurants that return and replace an entree, no questions asked, especially when -you didn't eat it-. I've had $50 steaks taken back without being charged, but you're gonna die on the hill of your watery $15 ramen? No thx. The food, for the most part, is okay. My tonkutsu ramen broth was acceptable, tho my pork was overcooked. My gf's replacement curry ramen was better than the spicy miso, but it was not great. It did have tasty fried chicken, but very few other ingredients besides noodles and spinach. She wasn't so into it. Where the cuisine shines is the sushi. The fish tastes like it's well sourced and is adequately competitive for the price range. We didn't love the ramen experience, but we were actually considering coming back just for the sushi before we saw that they'd charged us for the returned food. The shrimp shumai appetizer was tasty but a little skimpy on the portions, four tiny dumplings for $8 or $9. Ultimately, Sakana is worth going to if you just want sushi and don't mind a somewhat cramped and loud atmosphere during peak hours and a snooty attitude from the staff. I'd have added more stars if not for the service experience. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $30–50 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Recommended dishes: Nigiri"
