"Walking into the place it needs a simple renovation, clean up update. The place is an old rag. The service was sincere by the one person also taking phone orders. The boys behind the sushi bar could have helped. So be patient, the food was better than most local non- japanese operated restaurants. A bit lack luster, these days all local Japanese recipes have way too much sugar in their sauces. This place the least sweet, oddly their tempura was not fried in panko flakes but a thick tasteless batter. Toward the end a man turned off the cool radio station to put on an old movie. I was told it was changed because the man watched the TV. He never reentered the room once the monitor was on. A coat of paint, putting a way street salt shovels, take out supplies, adding a tasty lite tempura batter cleaning off publicly used salt shakers and soy sauce bottles would help us return to this dreary place."

The restaurant is ok, not much on the interior, more like a casual eating , however it is not on the cheap side. Sushi rolls are fine, fresh. there is a fried Sea bass comes with sweet and sour source that is just unbelievable delicious!!!

The sushi here is really good. The raw fish tasted fresh, the seaweed isn’t chewy and the rice is sticky. The establishment itself does need a total upgrade but besides the ambience the sushi was great and they give a lot of raw fish so it’s pretty big rolls for the price. View menu

I had a delightful sushi experience at Wasabi34. I was searching for a place that met my expectations, and this restaurant certainly delivered. The service was friendly, the fish was exceptionally fresh, and there was an intriguing variety on the menu. I also enjoyed a fantastic takeout option!

they make beautiful sushi. we often order to go here. Once they have messed up the order, but it's just once. they have a beautiful sitting area inside. it is a large restaurant. there are interesting art on the walls. lots of free parking on site. right on the NJ-34. the customer service is good and the service is recommended quite quickly.

a carpet restaurant with very dark wooden walls, feels like an old cabin inside and type of musty. there is no modern Japanese vibe giving a jagd cabin vibe. weird. very rude manager/own woman without sense for service. during lunchtime and ordered from the lunchtime menu rolls, she tried to overload me. if I wanted to be overloaded, I would have ordered more beautiful rolls. So then my understanding is that they are wrong advertising lunch price on the menu and download it on the check even if they are limited to the particular one. Pay attention to her bill at the end she's crazy. never back.

Recently moved to Matawan from nyc area so I'm pretty picky about my sushi. Haven't found a sushi spot that rivals some of the better places in nyc but I knew that before I moved to this area LOL! Anyways, I've tried a few different spots so far in the area and so far this is my favorite! I almost always order sashimi deluxe and I asked them to not give me white tuna and they obliged and substituted for me so that's always a plus for me! I was pleasantly surprised with my plate plus the pieces weren't skimpy either! Good service and my fish was fresh and it filled me up so overall happy and best part it's only 6 mins away! Will definitely be back! Will take a pic next time!
