"I really like this place as a sandwich shop. the quality is spot on... fresh veggies and bread, top quality Boar's Head meats. It's everything you need in a sandwich. The ladies that make the food are friendly and welcoming. This is the most economical lunch in Del Mar village area by far. You can even call in your order so its ready when you get there. Watch the time though, they shut down the deli at 2 pm. They have two little outside tables on the side of the building but I've never been able to sit at one because they were already taken. I eat here about once a week for lunch. For such a tiny place, they have an excellent selection of wines and spirits as well. Not that I'm picking up a 5th and a straw to go with my roast beef, but I have brought a nice bottle of red home to share with my wife now and again."

"Mellow Mushroom used to be our go-to local restaurant for meals when we were out running errands or too lazy to cook. We would go at least once a week for pizza or occasionally calzones. Then they swapped out the Daiya cheese for Follow Your Heart and we stopped going completely. Out of three members of our family, not one of us found the change to be positive and even after going back just in case we needed another try we are all completely disinterested in returning while they serve the new cheese. Honestly, the Vegan Gourmet cheese is foul. I guess some people complained that Daiya wasn 't real cheese enough, but what vegan really cares about that when the flavor is repulsive? The new cheese is atrocious to look at (it looks like clumpy, semi-liquefied yogurt) and tastes horrible. On a pizza with a lot of strong flavors (like a Thai Dye) it 's tolerable, but on a simple pie with just cheese or minimal toppings, it 's basically inedible. Also, this is not a place to go if you have any time constraints. A simple order taken immediately can still take over an hour to get to the table, even in a practically empty restaurant. On a busy night, you might as well just get comfortable because you 'll be there for hours. They also, unfathomably, do not carry anything like apple juice for kids. When asked what kinds of juice they had we were told they might be able to get some pineapple or cranberry from the bar. What sit-down restaurant doesn 't have apple juice? Not every family wants their kid drinking soda or HFCS-laden lemonade or tea . To be fair, their crust is usually excellent, the pretzels are amazing, and if you 're not in a hurry the atmosphere is usually pleasant. But the new cheese takes a 7-8/10 experience and drops it to a 3/10 at best."

"Mellow Mushroom has a great selection of vegan options, much better than the average place (especially chain) that has vegan cheese. They use Follow Your Heart cheese, which some people prefer over Daiya, although I don't really think I have a preference. Tell the server you are vegan and not to use any butter or parm on the crust, although the staff has always seemed knowledgeable and mentioned that to me when I ordered vegan cheese. They have interesting toppings such as marinated tempeh, tofu, and avocado. Try a tempeh and avocado pizza, you won't regret it! MM also has a stellar craft beer list, with local but also special releases from national craft beer sellers that are unusual to see outside of a bar with a great craft beer selection. In addition to pizzas, they have calzones that can be made vegan, and also tempeh/tofu hoagies (I have never asked if those can be made vegan, but would be surprised if they were not w/o mayo and with vegan cheese). Offers patio seating with heaters that keep the place toasty when the weather is cool."

"I recently enjoyed a Boar's Head Oven Gold Turkey sandwich on 7-Grain bread, topped with deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, pickles, cucumber, and onion. It was fantastic! Although it was a bit pricey at $9.00 (with no additional tax), you should expect to spend at least that amount. If you check in on Yelp today, you can get a complimentary soda. The quality of the vegetables and meat is outstanding—far superior to what you would find at Subway. After eating this sandwich, I felt great, which isn't something I'd say about Subway. The staff was friendly, and the service was quick, especially for a 2 PM visit. They even wore Boar's Head caps to set the right atmosphere. If you're in the mood for a quality deli sandwich, I would definitely come back here again."

"Staff is excellent. I go there so often they practically know me by name. Servers were easy to help with vegan options and friendly. Tempeh hoagie, hummus and fresh pizza is delicious. Pizza has myriad possibilities. Just make sure to ask for it without cheese/butter. Great choice for vegans and meat eaters alike. Sometimes they get the order wrong however. I know sometimes someone will wind up accidentally putting cheese on the pizza, but they'll remake it for you and the pizza will be free of charge. The only problem I've run into though was when we were ordering late one night, and they messed up on the pizza and put cheese on it, but the kitchen was closed by the time we went to pick it up so I wasn't able to get another one. But they gave it to us for free. And on some rare occasions they'll run low on the hummus (I guess) and not give you enough. But if you tell them, they'll make another one for you for free."

"This is a vegan to meateater type of resturant, anyone can go! I go to Mellow often and everytime it is a great experience. The waiters are nice and know what veganism is. Their cashew cheese (alternative, its a vegan cheese) is gooey and delicious. Their pizza crust has simple vegan ingredients. A good variety of food choices. You can make your own pizza, and salad, and good overall service. It can be pricey, but a pizza won't be more than $20. The small is around $14 i believe. I completely recommend it!"

"This location was very rude. I walked in without a mask, and a worker asked if I had a mask. I said no and he forcibly said, get out. I said I have an order already placed and Id like to pay and asked if someone can come out side to get my payment. He replied forcibly I said get out. I said I would and just wanted to know if they could help me pay for my order. Again he said Get Out. I asked for a manager and he pointed to outside and they said they 're right there. I opened the door and looked, no worker was outside. He lied. So I stood with the door open, standing outside and asked, where is the manager? And another worker said, I am. Now, both of these people standing next to each other, both knew the first lied. I asked if I can pay on an Appand then they could bring my order outside and all they could say is we said leave. Not once did they try to suggest any form of assistance. Worst way to interact with a paying customer. They seem to think that by demanding a person wear a piece of cloth over their face that gives them the right to be rude to people trying to support their business. I explained that I have a medical condition that the State of California legally exempts me from wearing a mask at all times and that by discrimination of my medical condition is against the law, they still refused to assist me by allowing some sort of accommodation, even taking my money outside and bringing my food outside was refused. All any of the employees could say was leave. Absolutely abhorrent treatment of a customer by the people representing this establishment."

"It is extremely rare that I write a review without actually visiting in person. My sister somehow got my hooked on this small, local sandwich chain. I had seen its various locations (Isla Vista, Santa Barbara 's Mesa and Goleta) and always wanted to check it out; yet leave it to my sister from out of town to introduce me to it. Twice she has ordered take-out sandwiches at lunch time for us. Their sandwich menu is nutso with 36 creations to choose from, including several that are vegetarian. Of course, the options are endless if you choose to build you own! I went with the #14 (a turkey BLT) and #2 (turkey and cheese) which are simply basic yet tasty. I have no idea what they do to their bread but is addicting. Slight crunch on the outside, yet soft to the squeeze and full of gummy flour flavor! All of the ingredients appear fresh and nothing special--which I appreciate when I want a deli sandwich. I love the fact that you can purchase your sandwich in a variety of sizes including a mini for if you need a snack to hold you over and not a full meal. I also think of children, those who are on a lower carb diet, who have had bariatric surgery, or are limiting portion sizes. I personally go for a small sandwich. However, if you want to go all out, choose the medium or family size. Even better, if you 're hosting a party, order a three to ten foot long sandwich (requires a day 's notice). I will be back to check out the actual place--third time 's a charm they say. I 've heard both their chicken salad and tuna salad are both delicious. That 's next up! P/S: According to Yelpers, they do not accept the Check-In Offer for a free soda with a sandwich purchase. They should really remove this from their Yelp page... Note: Only the Milpas location offers chicken sandwiches, burgers, french fries and chicken nuggets. Note squared: They charge more for credit card payments. "The sandwiches are good, however I placed a web order on Sept 15th through their app for delivery and once I received my order it was incorrect. I called the store to inform of my sandwich being the wrong sandwich and I was told by the manager Matthew that I would receive a refund. They remade my order correctly in which I paid again to have delivered and I have yet to receive my refund as promised. I have followed up with the store in which again I was informed the owner Priya would make sure I receive a refund and nothing... it's now been almost a month. Their website says to contact the store for the refund and if not resolved with the store then go through your bank. I was disappointed I had to contact Mr. Pickles 3x however I did receive my refund. Thanks!"

"When I called again to speak to the manager, I was told he had left for the day. Another person answered and questioned why I wanted to speak to the manager, which I found to be extremely unprofessional. I called back to express my dissatisfaction with the defensive behavior and lack of respect for their mistake. The second person I spoke to claimed that the first person thought the order was placed online and blamed it on us, the customers. It was frustrating to be treated this way for a simple correction and apology situation. The restaurant should address what is happening at this establishment. It's disappointing how they handled the situation and inconvenienced me as a paying customer who had to reorder and incur additional time, gas, and mileage just for a sandwich."
