"Mellow Mushroom has a great selection of vegan options, much better than the average place (especially chain) that has vegan cheese. They use Follow Your Heart cheese, which some people prefer over Daiya, although I don't really think I have a preference. Tell the server you are vegan and not to use any butter or parm on the crust, although the staff has always seemed knowledgeable and mentioned that to me when I ordered vegan cheese. They have interesting toppings such as marinated tempeh, tofu, and avocado. Try a tempeh and avocado pizza, you won't regret it! MM also has a stellar craft beer list, with local but also special releases from national craft beer sellers that are unusual to see outside of a bar with a great craft beer selection. In addition to pizzas, they have calzones that can be made vegan, and also tempeh/tofu hoagies (I have never asked if those can be made vegan, but would be surprised if they were not w/o mayo and with vegan cheese). Offers patio seating with heaters that keep the place toasty when the weather is cool."

I discovered this restaurant through my family, who raved about it! After trying it myself, I also found that they offer amazing vegan options. I would highly recommend this place.

have often eaten here, but just found a piece of sausage hidden under a tomat on my veg out pizza. not cool. probably lost a customer. Yeah, I know the title is funny. but I don't laugh.

This is likely the best pizza I've ever tasted. It outshines every other pizza place I've tried. The only contender I've heard that might compare is in New York. They also offer some amazing alcoholic drinks on the menu. View menu

I was expecting more. I did like the vegan option, which was above average for a restaurant. However, in a city with many great pizza choices, this one was just alright. The atmosphere was cool and they had good Hahn beer. It was very loud, though.

I have dined at this restaurant many times, however, on my most recent visit I discovered a piece of sausage hidden under a tomato on my Veg Out pizza. This was not acceptable. It was likely a mistake made by a customer. The title of the dish may be humorous, but I did not find the situation amusing.

I would highly recommend Mellow Mushroom. My family of 5 have been to this restaurant many times since it opened. It's a little pricey but kid-friendly and the calzones and pizza are both amazing. The selection of toppings is really good and they have Daiya cheese! The kids repeatedly ask to go here and we go here on our date-nights as well! View menu

The restaurant has a great ambiance and pleasant scents wafting through the air. The menu features an extensive selection of dishes. I decided to try the Holy Shitake Pie, and while I was a bit unsure at first, it turned out to be amazing— the chefs perfectly balanced the mushrooms, garlic, and cheese, resulting in a delicious pizza! The staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was very laid-back. I would highly recommend this place!

I ordered a pizza for pick up online. I selected vegan cheese (I think it’s follow your heart) but forgot to select no butter/no parm. Thankfully they skipped the butter and parm anyway since I picked vegan cheese. I really appreciate that! I made a build your own pizza and also got hummus. The pita with the hummus was super crispy. Almost like a chip. It was good, but prefer a softer pita. The pizza was excellent. Got lots of veggies which tasted great but was a little pricey. Satisfied my pizza craving though and my kids constantly ask to go back. I’d love to have a location in west county. We’d go more often.

"My boyfriend and I came to this place during our visit to St. Louis after reading rave reviews about it online. We went in well-dressed and excited with high expectations, but unfortunately were left feeling extremely disappointed and underwhelmed. Dining at the restaurant definitely taught us a lot about the ozark history. I have a lot of respect for the time and enthusiasm the owner put into researching the history, arranging youtube videos, and conveying this information to the guests. His concerns about the environment and zero-waste efforts are also very laudable. His direct interactions with all of the guests and attempts to answer questions were refreshing. The food, however, was very lacking and mediocre. The concept of watching your food being made is fun and exciting. Understandably, they can’t make everything and plenty is prepared in advance. Except they really didn’t seem to make much of anything at all. A few grilled mushrooms here, and a delicate but also pompous plating there and that’s it. I know there’s probably a kitchen in the back and they work throughout the day as most kitchens do, but this gaudy element of pseudo showmanship missed a serious mark. Again, that’s fine. It’s an aesthetic and part of the bulrush experience. What annoys me is the price tag and the faint whiff of haughtiness that comes with it. The kitchen hands also looked apathetic, disinterested, and lacked focus. They didn’t look like professional chefs, just professional food assemblers. I did not trust that they knew to prepare food properly and that was evident in what was eventually served. The food was either too plain, too sour, too salty, or overall a very big disappointment. The steak had so many big chunks of fat in it that I was only able to eat about half of it. The poissants were cute but definitely not something I would pay that much money for, especially given that there were only about two small pieces of it on our plates. The beets, brussel sprouts, asparagus, fried onions that we were served, I can find and reproduce in my own kitchen. For the amount of money we paid, I expected a lot more flavor, unique ingredients, and creativity. I asked the owner why Ozark and he admitted it was an entrepreneurial strategy to stand out. He loved to repeat to our audience that night that “no one else” is doing it! Well when you taste the food you can kinda see why? I can’t deny though that the chefs know how to make something look appetizing in pictures. That’s what initially attracted us to the restaurant. The pretty platings and colorfully spectacular arrangements were what got us in the door. The experience has been worth it in the sense that for all that we paid for, we got a good lesson to not eat with our eyes, and a funny story to tell our friends back at home."
