"Walked in for an early dinner and it's nice and slow, but doesn't smell like food cooking. We were greeted quickly and I asked about the specials- new fish plate and new tortilla soup. No mention about their Taco Tuesday offer we later heard another customer being told about. I try the soup which is sufficient. It taste ok but came out luke warm. The employee who rang us up didn't take off the promotion and over charged us. I will say they refund process went easy. Over all the whole experience and food was just average."

"What a difference employees make!! I had never been to this establishment before so the menu was a little foreign to me. Last week I asked for help getting what I wanted and it just didn't work. This past evening I went again, because I wanted fresh, unadulterated, food. This employee was more than happy to explain anything I didn't understand or couldn't find. My meal was delicious! Thank you!"

"I hadn't been to Rudio's in a while so I decided to try it today for lunch with my mom. While the menu items look great the final meal was a little disappointing. I had the blackened Mahi bowl and the fish was covered in way too much seasoning salt and was almost inedible. My mom had the shrimp bowl and it looked sad, they forgot the guacamole and there was not much else on there. The only upside of the visit was a nice couple ahead of us who gave us a few coupons to use for our meal. Even with the coupon we paid $30 for our meal which seems a bit much for two meals."

"I ordered on the Rubio’s Coastal Grill Website yesterday afternoon for my lunch time. I ordered one order of the Fully Loaded Grilled Chicken Nachos with Guacamole, Refried Beans, Sour Cream, Diced Tomatoes, Cilantro, Pio Pico Sauce, and melted Cheese. I also ordered one regular size Sprite soft drink and for dessert I ordered lone Honduran Chocolate Brownie. My total bill was 23.92. I also received Free Shipping when ai ordered yesterday on Rubio’s website. That’s a great deal! Wade this Door Dash Driver delivered my Oder yesterday 10 minutes earlier than I expected. Everything I ate yesterday like The All Natural Grilled Chicken Fully Loaded Nachos was very delicious! The Chocolate Brownie was very moist and flavorful. And my Sprite soft drink was refreshing. I highly doubt Rubio’s Costal Grill Fully Loaded Grilled Chicken Nachos."

"I’m a big fan of their self-serve salsa bar, where I load up on cilantro and white onions. Their picante salsa is delicious! I also like that they offer cauliflower rice as a substitute for regular rice. Their guacamole is tasty, and they don’t add dairy like some places do. I hope they bring back the mango salsa or introduce another fruity option. Regarding dietary restrictions: If you're following a keto, paleo (grain-free), or low-carb diet, cauliflower rice is a great choice. For those who are dairy-free, they readily accommodate requests for no cheese or sour cream; their chipotle white sauce does contain dairy, but there are plenty of other sauces available. If you're strictly paleo and avoid beans, you can still find plenty of meat and veggie dishes here. Vegetarians and vegans will also find a good variety of options to choose from. I like to order a modified California bowl with just meat, black beans, cauliflower, guacamole, lettuce, and salsa. I highly recommend this place for anyone with celiac disease or anyone looking for gluten-free options. I'm even stricter with my grain-free diet, and I've always been fine here."

"We were in the Marina Del Rey area for something and I remembered there was a Rubio's nearby that I used to frequent when I worked at Sport Chalet many years ago. My son was craving fish ???? tacos. It was a good call. Both he and I ordered theOriginal Fish Tacos combo. It comes with 2 tacos, beans and chips. My youngest got the kids meal with chicken tenders and fries. The fries were really good. He loved them. I didn't know they had fries. Will be back."

"My Wife and I decided to have lunch here yesterday. And was a really bad idea, it was $37. And sum change which is normal for sum good food. I ordered a burrito asada with extra meat and my wife ordered a shrimp burrito With rice in both. When they brought it to the table it looked amazing, but when we started eating noticed we were just eating rice and a couple pieces of meat. When I opened the second half of my burrito and noticed that there was 6 pieces of meat in it I went back to ask were was my meat they pretty much laughed at me and said that was extra meat. This location was being ran on this day by teens it looked like nobody really cared. We will never attend again and if I was u I wouldn't waste ur money or time either."

"When you enter from the mall, you'll pass through the outdoor seating area with Tiki tables before reaching the dining area and register. If you arrive from the parking lot, it might seem like there’s no dining space until you come across the self-serve drink station. The self-serve salsa bar is back, and I highly recommend trying the jalapeño lime salsa—I'm eagerly anticipating its arrival in stores! I’m a fan of chips but don’t want to risk damaging my teeth. Rubio's chips are perfectly crisp, lightly salted, and free from greasy residue. I like to dip them in the no-lard beans between bites of the moist fish tacos. While these may not be the absolute best fish tacos I’ve ever had, they deliver a reliable flavor that doesn’t weigh heavily on the stomach—great for long drives. Moreover, there are plenty of options for salad enthusiasts, vegans, vegetarians, meat-lovers, pescatarians, kids, and even those needing softer food. Just a heads-up: I visited on a Saturday around noon, and although it was a bit busy, the service was prompt, the restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly. The location is also accessible for individuals with disabilities, and it embraces diversity!"

"Given the fact that I've tried this place several times in the last 8 years (seems like a once/year visit), I figured I would add an actual review instead of just rating it. Needless to say, the rating has remained the same average...nothing spectacular; nothing awful. One thing I have noticed is that the portion size seems to be getting smaller and smaller. Now, I'm not one of those guys that people kick out of the buffets for lingering around and eating restaurants dry, but I do like a good bang for the buck to where I'm not still hungry afterwards. Every time I visit Rubio's, I have to order double meat in order to be somewhat satisfied. I understand the cost to portion ratio; however, I feel this is just ridiculous, considering this is a fast food/fast casual restaurant. Aside from portion size, this place does offer some delicious/healthier options. I may still visit this place once in a while, but definitely not my primary, go to establishment. For you light to normal eaters, I do recommend trying this place. For all you heavier eaters, consider somewhere else or be prepared to spend $25 $30 just for yourself."

"Quick, fresh and always good Rubios is a great place to grab a tasty healthy meal. With a salsa bar (roasted salsa is really good) and that South of the border ambiance, affords a nice break in your busy day. You can dine in, on the outdoor patio or get your Mexican food to go. With lots of nearby eateries to choose from, this is a great choice for a quick satisfying lunch or dinner."

"I am writing this review to applaud DINESTI, the restaurant Manager of the Rubio's Coastal Grill on Mission Gorge [SD 92120]. She was working the Register this evening and this review is particularly addressed to commend DINESTI for her customer serviceskills, genuine and happy smile, as well as her significant attention to detail. Not only did DINESTI take the time to gothrough each of the options that come with our meals, but identified the differences in the three (3) varieties of shrimp tacosfor us to choose. We selected the soft tortilla shells because we did not want them to be grilled with oil; and, we added blackbeans, rice, cabbage, avocado and mild salsa. Before concluding the order, DINESTI then inquired if we wanted anything to drinkand desert. She exhibited he type of heartfelt attentiveness you might expect at a fine diner, but it was so great to have thisservice at a local eatery. Take it from me, ask whether she is working before you go there to be able to not only enjoy theiroutstanding food, but to enjoy the care and appreciation that is exemplified by a truly superb Manager. It is obvious DINESTItruthfully LOVES her work in general , and everyone with whom she comes in contact in particular. Thank you DINESTI for making ahuge difference for my wife and I."
"For nearly $12, I expected a burrito with more ingredients. It wasn't rolled up well either, and only a few bites contained a small amount of the beer-battered fish; most of it was just coleslaw and black beans. I also didn't see any guacamole. I know it's fast food, and I’ve had better experiences with the blackened mahi mahi option in the past. However, this time the fish was dry, and the tortilla had that off taste of being in the refrigerator a bit too long. They did have a sign indicating they were short-staffed, which might explain the issues."
"We went to lunch yesterday 7/17 and we both got the fish taco plates with beans. I got rice with it. The beans were the consistency of soup. I took one bite and it was somehow gritty too. The rice had no flavor. I had to add salsa to make it taste like something. The fish tacos were good at least. The table we sat at was super sticky. We checked the other empty tables and they were sticky too. I got Rubio's from Doordash last month and the rice was so underdone it was crunchy. Against my better judgement I gave this place another chance. I am from San Diego and this is not the Rubio's I grew up with. The prices have gone up and the quality went down. I spent $28 for 2 meals. I may as well have went next door to Texas roadhouse and gotten better food. This is the last time Rubio's will be getting my business."
"This place is the original destination for fish tacos in Southern California, the very first location of the franchise. The staff is typical of a fast-food establishment, but they are dedicated and friendly in their service. Prices have increased, as with many things in 2022, and while the portion sizes are decent, they aren't exceptional. That said, my original fish taco was a satisfying size and quite fulfilling. These days, you can find more artisanal fish tacos throughout San Diego, but Rubio's remains one of the best options for fish tacos even after all these years."
"This was our first visit to the restaurant. The prices were somewhat steep, totaling $27 for two people. We ordered a bean and cheese burrito that lacked flavor and could have benefitted from more salt or garlic, or perhaps both. My husband opted for the especial burrito, but he only found about five pieces of meat inside, and he also thought it was bland. The highlight of our meal was the plain cheese quesadilla. The portion sizes were generous, and initially, we thought the meal was worth the price, but after tasting everything, we felt it wasn't justified. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly, and the place was relatively clean. We enjoyed the chips and appreciated the four self-serve salsa options available. The guacamole that accompanied the quesadilla was also quite tasty."
"This is my third time ordering delivery from here in just three months, and I can confidently say that the portions for the burritos have decreased by about 66%. Additionally, my delivery orders consistently arrive missing at least 2-3 side items that I paid for. I understand that costs are rising, but it feels like we're now paying more for significantly less food. No thanks, we'll be heading across the street to Taco Bell instead. EDIT: I ended up ordering from Taco Bell too, and my whole family experienced the same issue with portion sizes. We were unusually hungry after our meal."

"Rubio is a roomy Mexican restaurant that delivers food promptly. I would liken it to an improved Chipotle, particularly because of the broader selection, including fish and shrimp tacos. However, my top pick from the menu is undoubtedly the roasted salsa—it's so delicious that I could enjoy it straight from the containers! The service is typically very quick, and the staff is attentive and courteous. Unfortunately, their Salsa Bar hasn't reopened yet, which is somewhat disappointing, but they do offer pre-packaged cups of salsa instead."

"I ordered a grilled chicken burrito, and unfortunately, it was disappointing. The tortilla was stale and crumbly, causing the burrito to fall apart and create a significant mess while I was eating. It was clear that the burrito had already started breaking apart during assembly. Three other diners at the same time experienced the same problem, which indicates a quality control issue. Additionally, the picante salsa was really bad—it didn’t taste right at all and had a very unpleasant aftertaste. Others also agreed that the salsa was not edible and wouldn’t eat it. On the positive side, the roasted chipotle salsa was decent."
