"Incredible experience! At first glance, the place may not look like much, but it offers a fantastic selection of lunch options, all of which taste homemade. It’s a popular spot among locals, which is usually a promising sign. My husband had a burger that was excellent, the coleslaw was superb, and I thoroughly enjoyed my Portobello mushroom burger with pesto, salad, and tomato on a delicious whole wheat bun—it was out of this world! I’ve rarely seen such high-quality vegetarian options, especially in a casual street café. The waitress was knowledgeable and efficient, managing all the tables effortlessly. Just a heads up, they only serve breakfast and lunch, so be sure to come earlier in the day to avoid disappointment for dinner."

Don’t miss your chance at Southern heaven. The food was fantastic. There’s coffee and coffee cups available while waiting. And ridiculously low prices.

The large cheese hamburger with sourdough bread is fantastic for both the macho types and the Renaissance souls. And the addition of grilled onions? Wow!

Excellent service! The waiter was top notch! So organized and precise with all of our orders. We were a large crowd of balk players and he did not miss an order. Will definitely return. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 View menu

This place is great. It is like stepping back in time or maybe like going to a friend's house for dinner. I saw one lady get a sample of the casserole before she ordered it. The food was excellent and we got great service even though we were not a locals. We will certainly be back.

The BEST BLT my wife has ever had in her life. I literally have dreams about the sausage po boy. I would pay money to have that shipped to me in Minnesota. We stopped here after the Myrtles Plantation tour. Such a cozy little place, loved the family friendly atmosphere. Our server was amazing, the food was legendary. This place will hold a special place in our hearts. I want to go back!! Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $1–10

"We are staying at The Myrtles Plantation so naturally we booked a dinner reservation at Restaurant 1796. After dining there I’d say unequivocally if we didn’t live 956 miles away from St. Francesville, we would certainly choose to dine there on a regular basis! My husband and I are older so frequently we share one entree, but then that allows us to sample 4 courses. Kev was our friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable server. He made some suggestions about the new menu. We were heading in the direction of the braised short ribs until the steak ordered by the guest sitting next to us was delivered, and the incredible aroma of the 16 oz. Ribeye wafted over as it was presented to him. I signaled to my husband to look over and check it out! He did and we instantly decided, we know the short ribs will certainly be delicious but we really needed to order the steak. And we weren’t sorry! We first ordered the bread service as an appetizer. It was a sliced baguette of the most delicious fresh sourdough bread served with an herbed goat cheese topped with hot honey and pickled red onions. Yumworth every carb! Then we shared the strawberry salad with lemon poppyseed dressing. Fantastic! The steak arrived perfectly prepared and piping hot over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes, accompanied by bone marrow butter, which we immediately spread on top and bordelaise sauce. There are no salt and pepper shakers on the tableyou won’t need them. The steak was perfectly seasoned, enhanced by the accompaniments and the result was a hit of heaven! For dessert we had a new addition to the menu which name I can’t remember but it is a flourless cake with almonds and hazelnut, a coffee scented cream in between the layers, edged with a chocolate ganache and served with crème anglaise and fresh blueberries! Oh my!!! Lastly and I should have said this firstI was served the best cocktailmargarita on the rocks made its Patron Silver. Very nice wine list too! So obviously I highly recommend Restaurant 1796 no matter how far you have to drive to get there!"
