"I've been going to Coconuts almost since it opened. I'm not sure if the ownership changed lately, but the food has definitely gone downhill. The menu has changed and some of my favorite dishes are no longer on it. The ones they have seem a little limited. I had a special a fish curry which I'd had before and loved, but this time I could barely eat it; it just wasn't the same. It was sloppy and slimy, and had almost more okra than fish and okra is something many people dislike so I feel it was an odd choice to combine with the fish, even in a Caribbean restaurant. At least without warning people when telling them of the dish (it was a special so not on the menu). The starter was also not as good as it had been and the amazing guacamole they used to do didn't appear to be on the menu. The service was mostly good, and there's a pretty outdoor section in an alleyway between buildings. It's just a shame about the food, as I used to really look forward to having a meal here."

This is not a Jamaican restaurant- more like a Caribbean influenced spot. The plantains were great, but the jerk pork was not Jerk- more like a stew. The jerk wings were fried with a spooned on “jerk” sauce, the oxtail had a flavourful gravy missing many things. The meats were tender. The soup was from at least a day before and was subpar- we left it after a sip. The ambiance was nice and if you are nostalgic for Caribbean food or are curious, this is a decent starting point! This restaurant stands out in the sea of boring restaurants in Palo Alto. The music was fantastic and the staff was friendly and welcoming, unlike some other places in the area. We began with a specialty cocktail and then enjoyed perfectly cooked coconut shrimp and delicious jerk chicken (made with white meat) with beans and rice. The portion sizes were so generous that we didn't need anything else. The outdoor dining area is actually an alley painted in vibrant colors, with a plastic palm tree as the focal point. This place is a lot of fun.

I want to give 5 stars but their service isn't good at all. Not sure why they can be so slow and inattentive. The food is very tasty and I love their windy rum punch! The manager is sweet and a server named Maria is amazing but everyone else will just pretend you're not waiting to be served. Let me order and I'll pick up my own food, I'm good with that but don't make me wait 25 min to be waited on and 45 min to get my food for them not to check in on us. I really hope the service gets better because I really want to love this place. I'd be here several times a week but until then I need to make sure I have a lot of time to waste....
