"This is definitely my go-to Korean place in San Diego. I think it's arguably the best, depending on what you get. The Korean BBQ here is the best because it is the only place I know of in San Diego that uses real charcoal v. gas. That gives the meat here an additional layer of smokiness and texture that other places don't have. The side dishes (panchan) here are higher-end here as well v. other places. I've had shrimp green beans and chon (Korean savory pancake) as panchan here, which is really rare. This place also has a very extensive menu as well and dishes a lot of Korean places don't have. I love mul naengmyon (cold chewy buckwheat noodles) and bi bim guksu (cold spicy noodles), which they have here. They are refreshing, vinegary and refreshing. I also love the kalbi (short ribs) and bulgogi (marinated thin beef) here, which are lean, but tender. Also, the sundubu chigae is on point along, with the chapchae, which they serve warm and is not greasy like a lot of places."

Great meat, great service. One of the few places that uses wood burning coals to cook the meat at your table. Highly recommended.

As soon as you step inside, the staff will ask whether you're planning to have kbbq or not. My boyfriend and I chose not to go for kbbq because we wanted to avoid the smell, and we were...

DJK is quite busy and I feel like they could use a little more staff, but the food was great and I felt like the price was reasonable considering how much food we got. I'll definitely go back. View menu

We had planned to go to a different restaurant, but after struggling to find parking, we ended up here instead. There wasn’t anyone to greet us at the door; we simply wrote our names down and waited for a table. View menu

BiBimBap was fantastic! The portions were generous, and our waitress was very friendly. It's the best Korean food I've had since my last visit to Busan. I'm looking forward to returning with friends for some BBQ!

This is likely the best Korean BBQ in town. It’s located just off the main restaurant strip, making parking a breeze. The grills use charcoal instead of propane, which greatly enhances the flavor! The service was attentive and prompt. The quality of the meats was excellent and the banchan selection was delicious.

"I adore this restaurant. Golden Hill is filled with many many quality eateries, and Counterpoint anchors the neighborhood with it's fun atmosphere and dedication to quality. They recently renovated and the new space is open, airy and provides a variety of seating options: bar seating, restaurant seating, and upper balcony (I use this as a quiet place to WFH during the week), and an outdoor patio. I'm partial to the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, but the brined chicken and waffles or breakfast hash always makes me smile and sends me unto the world with a better outlook on life and a doggie bag. When it's hot, delicious crunchy salads are on the lunch menu and the craft beers and unique slushy flavors change. Counterpoint takes the quality of food and libations seriously. The craft cocktails rotate as the bartenders are encouraged to explore and grow. The owner and team are always warm, welcoming and make sure you have a good experience. Did I mention they are DOG friendly? Definitely worth the trip up the hill from downtown if you're looking to wind down after an event or precharge and eat before a baseball game. I love to bring my friends for a snack (try the olive selection) and chat on a twilight night. Space heaters outside if you get cold. Fans inside if you get warm. Honestly if you live in or are visiting the 92102 area code you should go to Counterpoint: good food, really good cocktails, and great company. It is clear that this establishment cares about quality, cares about your comfort and loves if you have a good time."
