"This restaurant was obviously severely understaffed. We were told that several people called off, so we ended up waiting a full hour for our food. Guests at the sushi bar who arrived after us were served and finished their meal before we even got ours. The sushi itself was mediocre at best, with huge chunks of wasabi under every piece of nigiri. When we questioned this, we were told it was "the Japanese way", which we found to be quite amusing. Despite the long wait and mediocre food, nothing was taken off our bill, which we also found to be quite humorous."

Can you please update your online prices with the actual prices. Although tasty, the lunch sushi rolls caused a bit of sticker shock! Thank you! D.

This was a beautiful place to eat and the staff were top notch! My food fell a little flat. I think it was very one note. I arrived right when they opened for dinner so maybe that played a part.Food: 3/5

We've been going here since it opened, it's still my favorite in Des Moines. The recent changes have not affected food quality or friendly staff. I could probably do without the addition of the television, but that would be my only critique. Great place.Food: 5/5 View menu

This used to be my favorite Japanese restaurant but lots of things changed over the year. People who know a bit about a good sushi would never visit here. I would better eat Hyvee sushi. I was very disappointed with their rice with burnt eel, which used to be the best in Iowa.Food: 1/5

We've been coming here since it opened, and it remains my favorite restaurant in Des Moines. Recent changes haven't impacted the quality of the food or the friendliness of the staff. The only thing I might change is the addition of televisions, but that's my only critique. It's a fantastic place!

There are only a couple, possibly three, outstanding sushi spots in the DSM Metro area, and Miyabi 9 is definitely one of them. They use fresh ingredients, the flavors are fantastic, and the attention to detail in the presentation is impressive. It's a fantastic place to visit! Small but exceptional! View menu

Very good Japanese food. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was comfortable. The staff was very kind and said goodbye and thank you to everyone when they left. This is super minor, but the tempura could have been cooked slightly more. The lunch specials are a good price for a large amount of food. Definitely will be coming back in the future.

The sushi was incredible, and the service was even better. We shared five of their special rolls among the three of us, along with a small appetizer. Though no one was inclined to order dessert, we couldn’t resist the temptation of the tempura roasted cheesecake. This has been one of my top five sushi experiences, and it’s right in the heart of the Midwest. Don’t miss out on this place!

"The server was fantastic and she did a great job making us comfortable and attending to us. The ambiance is great and very clean. As far as food goes, it was a little disappointing, decent, but not plate-lick worthy for the price. Guess you arepaying for the ambiance, not the food because I have had better Italian food at a dive bar. Read some of the reviews about burntpita bread and it was the same that came with our cheese dip. While the cheese dip was great tasting there was a bitter taste,it was the same for the Chicken And Prosciutto that I ordered. Took me a while to figure out Store-bought minced garlic. Onesuggestion to the chef would be to use Fresh Garlic/Garlic powder or if you have to use minced garlic, maybe cook it a littlelonger to mitigate the bitter taste. The chicken was FANTASTIC, juicy, and crispy. But overall the pasta dish was justwatered-down Alfredo sauce. I bet it will taste good as leftover after the sauce has thickened overnight in the fridge. Fordessert, we got crème brûlée. As you see in the picture, the sugar was over-caramelized- it should have cracked with the backof the spoon however, it only folded. The burnt sugar made it very bitter and had to scoop off the top layer to enjoy thecustard inside. It was a complimentary anniversary dessert but would have been nice if they treated it as though we paid forit. We will try again another time hopefully we can raise the star points since everyone else seemed to enjoy this place butme. Good luck and apologize for the thorough yet bitter review."
