"The food at this restaurant is quite good, but unfortunately, the customer service from the cashiers leaves much to be desired. They often appear disinterested and fail to interact with customers in a friendly way. I keep coming here solely because of the food; otherwise, the cashiers' attitudes would deter me from returning. Upon arrival, I'm rarely greeted or smiled at—just met with an unfriendly demeanor that suggests they don’t enjoy their jobs. It’s evident they could use some training in customer service. I visit every time I'm in town because I love the food, but the experience at the cash register is consistently disappointing. I often find myself dreading the visit just to pick up my order, as the cashiers never seem happy to be there and hardly acknowledge customers with a smile."

"Hands down the BEST RESTAURANT that I have visited so far here in ROANOKE! OMG 1). WALKING IN We were greeted by the most beautiful soul! The owners have been married for 30 years and told my husband and I the most beautiful testimony of their love, sacrifice, and business journey! They made us feel AT HOME here... 2) THE FOOD HOLY MOLY! It was soooooo good! Ummmmm... They can TAKE my money ANYDAY! I ordered the chicken and shrimp plantains, beans and rice and let me tell you... I am from the islands and haven't had shrimp cooked soooooooo perfectly since! If you know seafood the way I do, you know that this dry and unmarinated shrimp they serve everywhere else is annoying! This place does it perfectly!!! Everything tastes like someone's ABUELA is in the back just sprinkling LOVE into every bite! 3) The Atmosphere Sit where ever you want. The place is IMMACULATELY CLEAN! With REAL ivy plants on the walls, it was like I was sitting at someone's house on a Sunday after church. I mean, even the CUSTOMERS were just SO happy to be there! It was like everyone there KNEW what was about to come out that kitchen was going to be amazing... It's crazy how good food and good atmosphere turns complete strangers into friends... We chatted it up with at least three other customers who were all positively RAVING about the place. 4) Price If I can be honest, we ordered two plates and two sweet teas and a cake and it came out to about $40 and I would GLADLY PAY it again!!! I left the place feeling like I just took a double shot of HAPPY and chased it with a big glass of JOY... If you're looking for a place to visit, you can order ANYTHING here and you won't be disappointed... Come as you are and leave on cloud NINE! THANK YOU CUBAN ISLAND RESTAURANT for the lovely experience! My husband and I are now REGULARS."

"Fantastic food, friendly owner, reasonably priced. I was not expecting Cuban Island to be as good as it is. It is not much to look at, with very basic decor and bright fluorescent lighting (a pet peeve of mine). I sat down and perused the small but interesting menu. Several dishes sounded good, so I asked the wait person (who I quickly learned was the owner) to make a recommendation. She told me the chicken and shrimp plate was her favorite, so this is what I chose. I also ordered two Cuban tacos as an appetizer. The tacos came out quickly, and were wrapped in foil and steaming hot. They were served with a small cup of hot sauce and a small cup of cilantro sauce. Now, I LOVE my hot sauce...read more"

"The burgers fries here are to die for! Extremely affordable! Homemade cooked by the most precious sweet little old lady. The owners are so friendly remember you every time you come in. We've stopped eating at fast food restaurants because this is cheaper SO much better! You're missing out on this!!"

"Terrible experience with the manager. A few days ago I purchased 2 bologna egg and cheese sandwiches and home fries. My home fries had hair and a piece of bacon in it. I returned the fries and was offered a refund. I opted to have a free meal at a later date because I work close by. I returned days later to get the meal and was disputed about the price of my initial purchase. I never raised my voice nor was ever even upset. She decided I had an “attitude” and asked me to leave and then called the police. I hate to bring race up but I’m a tall black guy wearing a suit and tie. I was treated with respect by all the other employees. This manager was disrespectful and condescending. I never lost my cool but had to deal with the embarrassment of having cops called over a simple food order in which they were wrong for the hair and bacon in my food. This should’ve been easily resolved but instead they’ve lost my business and a lot of others. As a store manager myself I cannot imagine treating a customer this way. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place because of the behavior of the manager and the fact my food had MULTIPLE hairs in it as well as a random piece of bacon when I do not eat pork"
