"Two of us stopped in for lunch on a busy summer afternoon. The restaurant's atmosphere was homey and inviting, but it was a little claustrophobic with so many tables in a tight space. Our waitress was friendly enough, but I asked for an ice water with lemon and she brought me one without. I figured they were just out of lemons, but then I saw her deliver four ice waters with lemon slices to a nearby table. For starters, I had the French onion soup, which was very flavorful, with abundant onions and yummy melty Swiss cheese. My friend had the house chowder, which he said was excellent. For my entree, I had the fried haddock tacos, which were fat with savory fish and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. It came with a side of cilantro rice, which was tasty, but I couldn't finish it because the food was so filling. My friend had the Clapsaddle, a specialty prime rib sandwich that was messy to eat, but succulent. It came with house made potato chips. The waitresses were visibly frazzled; I think there were only two of them for a packed house. My friend was unable to get anyone's attention to get another glass of iced tea. Also, I overheard a server apologizing to customers at two different tables for getting their orders wrong. We ordered cups of soup, but realized later that we'd been charged for bowls... $7 a piece rather than $4. There were some mighty tempting looking pastries on the counter when we paid our bill, including gluten free brownies. There is even a cute little gift shop by the front door. My recommendation is to give this restaurant a try, but go when it's not so busy."

"I've been visiting the 1,000 Islands since I was a little girl and Cape Vincent has always been a favorite stop for lunch after a visit to Tibbets Point Lighthouse. This year when we walked into Aubrey's Inn, I could tell right away that something had changed. The tables were covered with coordinating navy and white tablecloths, lending a nautical vibe to the setting, which was enhanced by the sailing-themed Tiffany-style lamps over each booth. Our server, Taylor, was efficient, warm and polite, offering drink refills and checking on us throughout the meal. Updated bistro surroundings? Check. Excellent waitstaff? Check. But now we come to the coup d'grace: the food. (OMG, people, the FOOD!! If I wasn't certain that Aubrey's Inn had changed management before, it was crystal clear when our food arrived at the table. My children and I ordered grilled cheese on homemade bread and these sandwiches were out of this world. Packed with three different kinds of gooey, melty cheese, my kids inhaled their sandwiches while I fought to savor mine. (A losing battle because it was too delicious for lingering!! LOL!! Can I mention the fries too? Battered, crunchy on the outside and seasoned to perfection. Holy deliciousness!! When the new owner, Marcie, stopped by to check on us, we rhapsodized about our long-gone sandwiches and she told us that she was making tonight's special: Lobster Mac N Cheese in the kitchen... (Wait for it.. AND WOULD I LIKE A SAMPLE?! Uh, yes. Yes, please. People, if you're within a 50-mile radius of Cape Vincent when Marcie makes her Lobster Mac N Cheese, you do yourself a huge disservice not to get your butt to Aubrey's. Made with sharp cheddar and huge chunks of fresh lobster, it will make you weep. Don't miss it. Speaking of the very lovely Marcie, she chatted with us for a while and offered my kids free cookies for dessert. Make sure to say hello to her when you visit...she's the new heart of Aubrey's, her warmth, efficiency and kindness touching all who enter her doors. 5 stars and a new annual favorite!
