"Honestly couldn’t leave a lower review. The service and people were nice, nothing on them. But just all and all a weird dining experience. Could be on us for not knowing what we’re walking in to. But I’m highly concerned we’re going to get food poising. You cook your own food. It has hibachi vibes but you are the cook. I guess we’ve never laughed more on a date night, but for all the wrong reasons. It was just such a strange experience, I felt like I was on a bad mushroom trip. 10/10 would not recommend. 10/10 paid wayyyyyy too much to cook our own food. Excellent food, tho maybe too much. Much too high noise level due to close quarters. Very poor ventilation some in my party had stinging eyes due to cooking fumes. A tad too pricy given the make-shift ambience and lack of liquor license. CW Grinnell View menu

The chef is skilled and the meal was a fun experience. But it cost roughly $200 a head, including tip, which was more than I’d expected based on the reservation process. I’m mentioning this here as it looks another customer had a similar experience. Once is a mistake… twice is a… it couldn’t hurt to provide customers with an unambiguous invoice beforehand

Went for a Galentines dinner with 5 girlfriends- my first experience, food was pretty good, although small portions, but waitstaff were awful, manager was very condescending when an order was wrong the pricing was RIDICULOUS!!! We paid $800 for 6 of us!!!! There’s no wonder they’re closing down in 2 weeks!!!! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+

I hadn't been here in a long time and everything was just as I remembered except that they don't heat up the cheese or chocolate at the table anymore. Bummer. I used to love that part. Dietary restrictions: One of our party is allergic to shellfish and the waiter made sure the kitchen staff were aware so there was no cross-contamination. Excellently prepared dishes, definitely meat focused which is to be expected given its a butcher shop. One of the most delicious meals I’ve had in all of Fairfield County. I feel much better the next day when I drink Biodynamic wine so I was actually pleased that it was BYOB. It’s an intimate setting and the chef is informative, very friendly, personable and available to speak to. It’s slightly cramped and you really are almost in the kitchen but that is part of the experience. Could use slightly better ventilation only bc cooking smells got into my clothes a bit.

A unique dining experience with very good, creative food and quirky ambiance. Add a table and tablecloth to the butcher shop and at night it becomes “The Charles”. Needs some fine tuning on the ambiance to pull it off for the price (e.g. fresh flatware after each course). With just 4 of us dining it was cozy. It would have been nice if the chef had greeted us after the meal. Our favorites were beef tartare and halibut with seafood. It changes daily and you don’t know what it will be until the day of your reservation. The panna cotta was a good choice after a robust meal. I could not it the last course and took it home. Could not add my photos.

"Match may have a lot of positive reviews but our experience was not so. I’ll start with the ambience: it’s loud. If you’re looking for a place for a pleasant family dinner, this is not going to be it. While fun, my family and I felt quite anxious sitting inside with all the shouting and screaming around. You cannot have a conversation inside. The outdoor seating is definitely better for this, but lacks a cohesive ambience and feels almost more like you’re sitting at a decorated picnic table. No candles, lacking table settings and more. We had to keep asking for things (table settings, water, etc) sitting outside. Food also took a long time. The main part of any restaurant though is the food. We were so excited to try the food and unfortunately it was a major let down. The garlic bread, though tasty, lacked the flavor of the red wine butter and the amount of ricotta given was far too minimal for the six pieces of bread given. It tasted very much like Texas toast. The fried mozzarella was much better but the portion size was quite minimal for the price. Also the fruits and tomatoes on the plate were all ice cold… which did not add a positive element to the plate. If the tomatoes were roasted I believe the plate would have been much stronger and tastier. The food at Match is pricey. Unfortunately that doesn’t guarantee quality. My daughter had the ravioli which was tough, undercooked, and reminiscent of airplane ravioli. I had the forest pizza which tasted unseasoned, the spinach tasting boiled, and the general composition lacking. My son and wife had the gnocchi. While delicious, the shredded cheese on top disturbed the composition and smoothness of the dish. The portion size was too minimal and we went home all feeling hungry. We skipped dessert because of how disappointing our meal was. Given the prices and the ambience, and especially the food, I don’t think we will revisit match."
