The private home atmosphere and personal attention to each table combined with excellent food makes the Patio at 1578 our #1 favorite restaurant for special guests and occasions.

My only complaint would be regarding the lemonade order for my kids. It was served in very small glasses with ice, and while they were offered refills, we were charged for each refill. We were also charged for basic black coffee after dinner. For the price we paid, I would have expected non-alcoholic drinks, especially those tiny lemonades, to be included. Nonetheless, I would still highly recommend this restaurant.

We've all found a place that we'd like to keep secret and while this qualifies I can't resist sharing. South Bristol is one of those few midcoast towns stuck in time and dining at this restaurant is like going back to an old friend's house for a relaxing meal on a lazy evening near a cove. All tables are on their home's patio. The food is not adventurous but it's classically prepared and presented. Not cheap but not exorbitant and the minimal wine list is carefully chosen and remarkably affordable. Our menu was a bright summer salad, buttery soft chateaubriand, and cheesecake. My (now) husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at The Patio at 1578. I couldn't have asked for a better rehearsal dinner. Everything was absolutely perfect. Mark and Kim worked with us to create a wonderful family-style Italian feast for our around 30 guests. We arrived around 5:30 and started off with delicious cocktails. We had 3 hors d'oeuvres (bruschetta, lamb chops, and arancini) which were all delectable and served on trays. The main course was a summer salad, bread, and three family-style dishes: tagliatelle bolognese, risotto milanese with shrimp, and fettuccini carbonara. This is a set price meal comprised from whatever strikes chef Mark's fancy. Kim is the consummate front end hostess and bartender. The decor is wonderfully comfortable, yet upscale. Seven of us reserved the table in front of the living room fireplace to celebrate a birthday dining extravaganza.
