"PATRONS BEWARE. My husband, two of our friends, and I decided to try Trattoria Positano in Cardiff for the first time yesterday. As she is taking our order, the waitress, who is also the owner of the restaurant, was curt, condescending, and rude. When we asked her what we could substitute for the broccolini, she told us that the chef would not make any substitution. I told her I was allergic to cruciferous vegetables to which she answered, “I will see what we can do.” When the runner delivered the food, my friend showed him that the green beans were soggy and asked for a different vegetable. The runner went to talk to the chef and returned stating that the chef would not address the issue. When we were just about done with our dinners, the runner brought us some cold vegetables. We hardly saw the waitress during our meal. When she finally delivered the check, my husband offered constructive feedback to help her improve their customer experience. She got defensive and proceeded to tell us that the chef was her husband and part owner of the restaurant. She also stated that the soggy green beans were meant as a garnish only. She then finished by saying that no one else was complaining. Rather than making the situation better, she made it worse. The food was tasteless and not worth the price, no one from waitress to bus boy smiled, and customer service was non-existent. We vowed never to go back to Trattoria Positano and to tell our clients and friends about our disappointing experience. Please read the other one-star reviews before patronizing this restaurant."

An amazing small Italian place. The food is made fresh and the taste and variety is wonderful. For sure worth a visit time and time again. We love it.

Every thing about this place is wonderful. Fabulous food, great ambiance and we loved our waitress. We did not get her name but she was from Portugal. We can't wait to go back!

Service was impeccable, the food was outstanding and atmosphere was what I expect in an authentic Italian restaurant. There were four of us and this is our collective experience from the appetizers to the dessert. We also had a good bottle of wine reasonably priced.Food: 5/5 View menu

Nice restaurant to have a real Italian dinner in Cardiff By The Sea. The food is authentic and tasted amazing! My family enjoyed their dishes. We enjoyed a nice red wine before the food came out. For dessert we had the positano lime tarta. I highly recommend this place! Great spot for a date and to be right by the ocean views.Food: 5/5

2 stars are for atmosphere. Very cozy and cute place. Food did not deliver. Caprese was not fresh. Mozzarella and tomato were both tough. Sausage in one entree was very tough and grainy. Pasta over cooked. Vodka sauce in rigatoni alspari was more like butter sauce. I asked if they used wrong sauce maybe and waitress said after that if you like pink vodka sauce you have to ask for it. Not very pleasant. Tried to be nice and brought out a complimentary Tiramisu that wasn’t very good either. Disappointing

Solid Italian place in Cardiff, definitely authentic, but they have their own unique dishes, a couple of the pastas are handmade as well. I had high hopes, and I was with a big group. Most of them were very satisfied and loved their food. However, it didn?t quite meet my expectations. Ordered bruschetta which was good but needed much more balsamic, couldn?t taste it. The pasta I ordered was under salted and generally just decent. I was hoping for something better. However, I enjoyed the experience, and would likely come back again and try something new. I was sadly disappointed in this place. The atmosphere was nice but the service was lacking. Took almost 10 minutes just for someone to come get our drink order. It seemed like there was one person working. The server was kind, no issues with that, it just took forever to get anything. Part of our order was missed, but we were still charged for it. I was really hoping that the food would be really good but I felt it was pretty average. The bread was rock hard and the homemade pasta was dry. Based on the reviews, I'm assuming it was just an off night. I know things are hard now, so I will just chalk it up to a missed opportunity.

Food is good. I had oysters with spinach, not too salty nor overstuffed with cream. The lobster raviolis were very good sauce tasty nor drenched in sauce and the octopus salad was good grilled nicely dressed with plain vinagre. The cooks are good.Service was a bit bizarre. Apparently, BREAD is not allowed to come to the table until the menus have left. So don't go there too hungry or bring your own bread jk. Elderly women who run the place are crude and we noticed patrons are not treated equally unless you are a frequent patron. A lot of favoritism. But we did catch one of them talking about their patrons behind their back. Ambience freezing! Take a winter coat or you'll catch a cold. Outsid...

"Best dinner of the year! AND we eat out every night, so saying this was the best dinner this year... that's saying something. Came here last night for a date night. We have been a few times previously. My wife wanted the surf and turf for two. So, that's what we ordered. At $60 it seemed like a bargain. It featured ribeye steak, crab cake, cauliflower, green beans, rainbow carrots and garlic mashed potatoes. It was served with sides of remoulade, bearnaise and demiglaze. First off nothing was pedestrian about this plate of food. I have no idea what kind of green beans they were. They were long, flat and wide. Kind of like a Lima beans in its shell, but tender and sweet. There was cauliflower that had bright white tops but green stems. Never seen that before. Carrots were rainbow colors. The steak was seasoned perfectly, maybe had even been brined. Tender to the point I didn't need a knife. The star of the show was the demiglaze. Literally the best I have ever had. So good that I asked the chef if he made it himself. I was disappointed to find out the answer was yes. I was hoping it was something that I could procure from some specialty shop. But no. Only a chef with extreme pride in the craft would go to all the effort to make a demiglaze like that. That same pride echoed throughout the plate. The mashed potatoes as included. Not too rich or fat laddened, yet full of flavor and a perfect accompaniment to the veggies and the steak. We ended up having an apple crisp for dessert. It came straight from the oven with a big scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. It gilded the lily. Everything was amazing. And, I got a small amount of demiglaze to go. In the end, I found the specialty shop I was looking for. ?"
