"Been looking forward to trying Van's since my son started at OU, and maybe I over-hyped it in anticipation. The Meat was good, but nothing spectacular and the Collards were just ok. The Beans were above average, but all-in-all I was hoping for more. The setting is just what you'd expect and I'll try again and see if I get a different result. I had Ribs and Brisket on this visit and the Ribs were tender and came off the bone clean, but just ok on seasoning. The Brisket was a bit dry, although good for a sandwich or with something to add a little moisture. I realize that there can be a lot of variance in BBQ, so I will give Van's another visit and see if I think differently. diningoutdfw.com"

Decent food  but    w a y    overpriced..       A  good BBQ shack would really mop up here in Norman.  Vans is ok  but nothing spectacular.. View menu

Van's is an icon to be sure. The meat is consistently good, and the twice baked potato is exceptional. The restaurant is cool in a "roadside dive" kinda way...and has some Norman history too. But the prices are insane. They are WAY out of line. 15-20 for barbecue (and 3 dollar ice filled drinks which you will have to refill...A LOT) Good food but not worth that much money.

Please let me start by admitting that I am a BBQ snob. I grew up to eat Van's, and I'm used to it. It used to be my favorite, but by years or tried much big smoked meat, I can lie down that I really like it. Her ribs are delicious, her chopped beef and pork are pretty good, and her smoked poultry is pretty tasty. I would definitely recommend. If you can deal with the heat, your really spicy sauce has a big taste for a sauce with a lot.

Please let me start by admitting that I am a BBQ snob. I have grown up eating Van's and I am used to it. It used to be my favorite, but through years or trying a lot of great smoked meats, I can land on saying that I really like it. Their ribs are tasty, their chopped beef and pork are pretty good, and their smoked poultry is pretty dang tasty. I would definitely recommend. If you can handle the heat, their really spicy sauce has great flavor for a sauce with a lot of kick. View menu

On the way to Dallas and we hungry for Grill. We ordered the brisk dinner and the rib dinner. My brisk was old and dry, not trimmed and hard crust outdoors. I came back for fresh, it was not much better, not with trimmed and still burned crust on it. No smoke taste. The beans and potato salad were fine, but not the best. Do not rip these good, hard burned crust on them too, Cole Slaw was very poor. We spent $ 28 for a very bad meal. We will not go back. I rate it as one of the worst BBQ I ate, in which I ate and I eat BBQ twice a week.

"My husband and I decided to try this place out for date night. As we walked in, the ambience hit us both, it was great! Very clean and classy. We were quickly seated and shortly thereafter greeted by our server. They had an extensive list of alcoholic beverages and received complimentary water immediately after settling. We placed our order and started receiving our courses. 1st course appetizer of fried calamari (half regular/half spicy . The overall taste was great, but the calamari itself was rubbery like trying to chew on a bouncy ball. 2nd course bread/butter with our soup choices (loaded baked potato soup . This was very well our favorite course. The bread came out piping hot and the butter melted, well like butter (the soup was great for dipping! . The soup was super creamy and didn 't lack in flavor! 3rd course entree and sides. Husband had a dry aged porterhouse and I had their imported wagyu steak while we split their family style garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. This is the point that it got to be pretty disappointing. Let 's start with the dry aged porterhouse. I purposely use quotation marks as I 'm hesitant to believe this was actually the case. At over $100 for 24oz., I have never seen any type of liquid (what looked like blood forming on top. It was cooked fine, but lacked in flavor, depth, or any technique. Something I would expect at this price point. The wagyu steak was okay. It didn 't cut like butter as the server had said, but it was cooked well and tasted like filet. The garlic mashed potatoes were the highlight of this course creamy and delicious! The grilled asparagus was burnt to a crisp, like eating bits of charcoal. The manager did take this off our bill. 4th course vanilla cheesecake. Very creamy, would for sure order again. Overall, based on our $340 bill (not including tip , our experience was sub par and in line with expectations of a Black Angus at 3x the cost."
