"We drove 3 plus hours into Alexandria to take care of business. It is a treat for us to eat sashimi since we are Cali transplants now living in the mountains of Virginia. Saw the reviews and went to Kumo Asian Bistro. Saw that they didn 't have any sashimi other than Maduro, hamachi and sake and a few other undesirables. No hon maguro, chutoro, etc. So we left and went to Taiko, but they were closed. Then went to Kana, but it was same as the first spot, and we left after looking at their offerings at the sushi bar. Then we read more reviews and went to Zento hoping we 'd find some bluefin, toro, and maybe even some madai if lucky. The server had no smile and lacked any energy. The Zen mojito was pretty good. Sake selection is limited, and nothing worthwhile... too bad, as we were willing to spend some for decent Sake. They didn 't have anything fresh other than salmon, yellowtail and bigeye. Oh well... we ordered it, and ramen. Being a rameniac, was curious to see how their ramen was. I tried asking the server in 3 different ways that I didn 't want overcooked noodles. She repeated that the cook probably wouldn 't understand...smh. Salmon carpaccio was OK. Standard, boring. Adding ikura was a nice touch, but otherwise just ok. The nigiri rice was not up to par, but the yellowtail was good. Sashimi was good, just lacking in variety and availability. Spicy tuna roll was good. As for the ramen, without getting too much into it, it was good. The noodle was not firm and chewy, but I didn 't have much expectations. Ordered the fresh wasabi and wondered why it was so cheap... it was 80% mixed with horseradish Wasabi. Decent food, but if you want fresh sashimi and variety with good service, better luck elsewhere."

I've been to Zento multiple times, and have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh and the rolls are delicious. The staff was friendly.

Super slow service. Took over an hour and a half to get 1 order of ramen. Ramen was good though... Ambience not sure about all the cozy posts because this place is small, and the lobby is tiny, especially considering the long wait time to be seated. View menu

The service was better today; but I have to say the sushi just wasn't great. The avocado was very hard (not ripe enough yet) and was almost like a cucumber crunch. The music was a little loud; but I appreciated the new server very attentive and friendly. Hoping next time will be better food!

This is one of my husband's favorite restaurants so for his 30th birthday I ordered catering to pick up and it was delicious! I messaged them on facebook and they texted me directly to get my order and make sure everything was ready. They also threw in a whole salad and the platter plating they did for the sushi was very nice and thoughtful. (Boats in photo are ones I ordered off of amazon. Zento never disappoints!

YUM! So good, I frequented this location twice while in town. Dined in for lunch during the weekdays right when they opened around 11:30 and was seated and serviced promptly. My favorite thing to get is their salmon lover sashimi appetizer 5 sashimi slices for under $12. The salmon is buttery and so fresh delicious. I'll stick to the fresh rolls moving forward as I wasn't a fan of all the sauce included in the rolls I got. View menu

Zento was a lovely place for date night with my husband! We arrived at 5pm on a weekday and got seated right away but I?d recommend arriving early as they definitely got busier as the evening went on. Our server was lovely and prompt in taking our orders and then delivering appetizers and drinks! But the entrees were what really impressed us! I got the Tonkatsu Don which delicious while my husband ordered lots of sushi and the Tofu Teriyaki which he was also very satisfied

I'm giving them a three star because their service needs to improve. We have been coming to this place for about 6-7 years and the sushi is on point. However after the pandemic their wait staff and service has been way too slow. I would understand if the restaurant was packed full of guests and the food got delayed, but we (two of us) went in around 3:30pm on a Sunday and there were only two couples. One table got served with their appetizers and it looked like the other had just ordered. As we were ordering another group of 4 guests come in and they got their appetizers and their main meals with sushi way before ours. It took them over an hour to make two sushi rolls and two nigiri sushi?!O...

"This place really helped me adjust. I later learned that people gravitate towards certain bars, and I found my favorites, especially those with live music like Birchmere, Black Cat, 9:30 Club, Lincoln, Capital One Arena, and even the now-closed O'Shaughnessy's and Rock & Roll Hotel. One of my most memorable experiences was running into Rory Sheridan on one of my first visits. He was launching his DC music campaign back then and was part of Loud Boyz. We chatted a few times, and I even caught up with some old classmates. Another highlight was when I heard about a “reunion” night before Thanksgiving, and I decided to crash it. There were moments where people could be unkind or I felt out of place, but I was given some guidance on where I would fit in better, without the unnecessary drama. Being in Old Town, I was familiar with nearby schools like West Potomac, Mount Vernon, and Bishop Ireton. During my visits, I would often take an Alexandria cab or use Metro Access, being discreet about my disability since I felt embarrassed at times. Being a regular meant navigating the tourist scene, and there were people who seemed territorial about the place, but I ended up doing quite well when I sold my house. Good times continued with events like watching RG3 play for the Redskins or meetups organized by JT. I enjoyed New Year’s celebrations and weekend outings. I also frequented other establishments like Flying Fish before it closed, and O'Shaughnessy's before I decided to stop drinking. This is a sports bar located near a bicycle shop, close to the Ben & Jerry's I used to work at, along with many other walkable bars for bar hopping, like Union Street Pub and Fish Market. It can be a great place to have fun, but with the good comes some downsides. Overall, I felt well-hosted and respected here, despite some things I was not initially aware of or didn’t want to uncover."
