"On the Border is a chain tex-mex restaurant that highlights the bar but has a good restaurant with decent food selections. The place is large with lots of seating. The staff is good. And the prices are reasonable for the large portions on the dishes. I used to go to On the Border about 25 years ago, but it was very popular and the quality of the experience, the wait and the over-worked staff caused the value go down. In the past year, since covid has abated, I returned. Surprisingly, I think the quality of the staff has improved, the best dishes are still here and prices have stayed reasonable. My go-to dish here is the Ranchiladas, which is a combo of a 9 oz mesquite steak (their fajita meat) and two cheese filled enchiladas. I love that spicy sauce it comes with. The other signature dish is there fajitas which I think is one of the biggest and best cooked of all restaurants. Their sides are decent too. The chips and salsa are strong with a nice zesty spiced up salsa. The monster chips are fun too. While I am not crazy about their rice and beans, the one really well-crafted item they have, as well, is the hand made tortillas, which I love. The staff we have regularly here are great. Today we had a lady named Terry who did an exceptional job of being helpful, efficient and very kind. After a long, tiring day of work (for both my wife and I) and having to eat late at 8:30pm, it was so nice to have such a positive person host and serve us this evening. I would have rated the restaurant a 3 star, but staff here is always so good that pushed it to 4 stars."

"I really enjoy eating at OTB, as my meals are always satisfying. I typically go for the Create Your Own Combo Pick 2 with the Grande Fajita Nachos, which are delicious. However, I was not impressed with the Margarita Cheesecake – it didn't even taste like cheesecake. I'm not sure what kind of cake it was supposed to be, but it was not what I expected. I was quite disappointed. If it was meant to be a Tres Leches cake, I would not recommend it. Additionally, the dish usually comes with complimentary chips and salsa, but I only received salsa with no chips. This wasn't a big issue for me, but it might bother others."

"My wife kept thinking someone who had just smoked was around us as we ate but she eventually discovered what she was smelling. Her refried beans SMELLED AND TASTED LIKE AN ASH TRAY. I am so not exaggerating or being dramatic. I used to be a smoker so I am very familiar with that very distinctive smell of an ash tray. We talked to the manager and she said they must have over cooked it, we have a new cook . I am no refried bean expert but really? Let's assume that's a real thing for a moment. If that's a possibility EVER then there should be a policy to test every batch. That's just disgusting. I truly am leading on the idea that someone literally poured a ash tray in the mix. Yes it really was that strong of a smell and taste. The manager didn't do any more than explain it My wife was a big on the border fan but she said no more. Listen OTB staff. If she said no more OTB , how many more will say that. Just sharing our story. You choose where you eat."

"I usually order a quesadilla from this place. I know it’s a basic food for a Mexican restaurant but it’s so good! I always get it with guacamole and it’s just amazing. Their tea isn’t the best but a lot of restaurants that i’ve seen don’t have good tea. I come here often and eat with my family. The chips are lovely! I buy a bag of the chips in Sam’s Club every time I run out!! I would also like to comment on the Sopaipilla’s. They’re so good! They’re very messy but it’s worth getting a few crumbs on your table for. The perfect desert in my opinion. I definitely recommend this place."

"I give 5 stars for the service. When you visit, be sure to ask for Cat; she is friendly and attentive, making you feel like she's going above and beyond, just like a caring aunt would. She is truly the sweetest! However, I found the food to be overpriced for the quality; it felt like the prices were inflated compared to the flavor. The margaritas were $5 during happy hour, and they were a good deal. Unfortunately, we were seated at a dirty table by the hostess. I was a bit taken aback because I typically don't sit at a dirty table, even before the pandemic, and I tried to pay but felt awkward since I hadn’t eaten directly from that table. Despite that, our server Cat turned a disappointing situation into a delightful experience. She is a truly valuable employee!"

"nathan, the nude is incredible! he is so friendly and personal and always remembers us. we brought my fiancés mother to otb and she loved it! he answered all their questions about dinge, who are spicy and did some great recommendations. she loved her queen! my fiancée also changes his burrito and it came out how he wanted it. we go regularly and always ask to sit in the bar area because the staff is so fantastic. thanks nathan for a great dinner!"

"I'm sorry to have to say that this-the most recent-visit to this restaurant was THE ABSOLUTE worst visit I've ever had to this chain. The reason is because the food was terrible. My wife tried to get her meal replaced, however with a certain ingredient left off. The replacement plate was no better than the first. It tasted like pickle juice was poured all over the food. My burrito plate with shredded pork was the driest' prepared you could think of. There was no seasoning on the pork and it seemed as though any any moisture in the meat was dehydrated. I'm sorry for being honest but I have eaten at this restaurant chain dozens of times over the years. I hope this visit doesn't represent a trend franchise wide. I gave 2 stars vise 1 because the wait staff did their best to help when we voiced our displeasure. Its going to be some time before I patronize here again if at all. Let's hope things improve."

"Incredible food and service! After finishing my meal, I realized I had left my debit card at Walmart. I rushed to retrieve it, and when I returned, the waitress had kept my food warm for me. To my surprise, the manager had arranged for the kitchen to prepare a completely new meal for me, including a fresh frozen margarita because my original one had melted! I really appreciate how they went above and beyond my expectations. P.S. The Coronita Margarita is definitely worth the trip!"

"I spent $45 on a meal that was quite disappointing, and I couldn't even finish it. While the house salad and soup were decent, I cannot recommend the fish taco and rice. The chicken carnitas enchilada was somewhat tasty, and the black beans were fine—it's hard to mess those up. Unfortunately, after returning to my hotel, I ended up getting sick. To make matters worse, I also received a dirty knife. My pregnant Hispanic girlfriend, who is usually not picky about food, was really let down, which speaks volumes. We ended up grabbing Taco Bell afterward, and it tasted much better. The atmosphere was further disrupted by kids yelling and running around. The only positive aspect of our visit was the friendly waitress. Overall, I don’t recommend this restaurant; it felt like they didn’t care much about the food they were serving, and we visited when they weren't busy."

"I was really excited about having on the boarder for the first time in years and was very disappointed. I placed my order online, said it would take about 15 minutes. So I drive over there and I'm right on time. The staff was very nice and said my order would be about 10 minutes. No big deal as long as my foods hot. Several people come and go with their food. People who arrived after me got their food before me. Another staff member asked if I had been helped and called for my order in the back and went to check on it. About another 10 -15 minutes later a server comes with my food. And I leave so when I get to my room and look at my food my orders wrong. You could tell the food had sitting for a while, because it was salty and warm, even my dessert the sweet bread was lukewarm. The only thing that was good was my cocktail and lemonade. I don't travel to Kissimmee much if ever so I won't have to worry about going back."

"This place used to be fantastic, but for the past two or three years, I've encountered terrible service each time I've visited, likely due to a lack of staff. Today, I decided to give it another try. However, the hostess, Sophia, appeared to have a mix-up and forgot to call us when our turn came up. Instead of the 25 minutes I was promised, I ended up waiting nearly an hour. When I inquired about the delay, she apologized and said she had mistaken me for someone else. You take down a name and phone number and maintain a list to call the next person as tables become available—it's not complicated. It’s hard to believe there was a case of mistaken identity; it felt more like you didn’t want to give me the table for some reason. After this experience, I won't be returning."

"Sub par experience most of the time and we eat there about once a month, mostly because my wife likes the food. The concerns I have are if I am seated we should have at least water, chips, and salsa right away while we look at the menu. Instead, you get seated, wait for a waitress/waiter to come take your drink order, then come back with chips Salsa and then come back with drinks. If you are dining here for fajitas that you want coming out steaming hot on the iron plate, this is not the place. The prices are high and the overall experience I would consider as just okay. However, if you are looking for piping hot fajitas, chicken or steak go to prospectors on rt 38 in mount laurel. Best prices and fajitas so hot you have to wait until they cool down. Other menu items are just too expensive at prospectors. My closing thought for On The Border in Mount Laurel is that the best part about this place is the manager Tony. If you go here to dine and get cold food or unsatisfactory service, ask for the manager Tony he truly cares about the business and makes it right."

"Worst experience I have ever had here! My friends and I usually love coming here but I will not be back! First we ordered chicken quesadillas and inside the sour cream was hair. Then my salad I ordered also had hair in it. Then my friend had tacos and by the beans there was a hair on the plate. The waiter was not very attentive either after telling him about the quesadillas. They took the food off of the bill and asked if we wanted anything else we said no. But after having 3 dishes with hair on all the plates we just wanted to get out of there. We were charged for our sodas and Queso that we got. After having that experience I believe we should not have been charged for anything at all! Very very disappointed in how this was all handled. The manager did apologize but our waiter did not even bring up or apologize for this I understand it is not his fault for the hair in our food but he just brought the bill over and did not say a word to us he just placed it on the table and left. I will not be going back to on the boarder after this awful experience!"

"This was my husband's and my first visit to this restaurant, and we were quite disappointed, especially considering it was nearly empty. After being seated, we waited 10 minutes for our menus. The service was incredibly slow. Our waitress seemed disorganized, bringing items at different intervals. When our food finally arrived, it was only lukewarm. We were hesitant to ask for anything, as even simple requests, like silverware before our meal or a tea refill, took ages. Overall, it was probably the worst service we have ever experienced in a restaurant. The only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because the food was good. Otherwise, it's a definite thumbs down, and we won't be returning."

"A Personal Touch. I am not particularly drawn to chain restaurants, and this particular restaurant has not had the best reputation for service and food. But this has made a good turnaround!<br/ <br/ The servers have been trained up! The kitchen seems to have it together. The drinks are good, reasonably priced, the food is fresh. <br/ <br/ I am even able to get a flavor of the real Mexico. When I think Mexican food I think seafood, soups, and fresh veggies. This chain has that, and the guacamole made to order at your table is probably the best in town. <br/ <br/ The best part was the late night manager and staff, who helped me out one night when I was in a bind. "We ordered two pick two deals. The photo is of the beef enchilada and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The enchilada was a flavorless disappointment with barely any filling inside of the tortilla. The food tastes like something you would get from the school cafeteria. The service is average as no one brought me my to go order I had to go back to the counter to check on it even though I was seated inside of the restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and okay for something quick. I definitely would not recommend the food. I could only eat the rice the rest was not good. After I had left the review I went to bed but I was awakened about two hours later with excessive stomach pains. I was awake most of the night sick. This was the only food that I had eaten that could have caused it. I’m still feeling sick."

"My experiences at On the border are always awesome..which is why I continue to go weekly.... the Towson location in Md.
