"I've been craving this food for a while, and I haven't ventured out to try other places since the spot I liked closed down. A friend of mine kept telling me to try this place out, but I was hesitant. I finally decided to grab some to go for lunch today, and... I was pleasantly surprised. I got the Veggie combo and Doro tibs. I don't know if she was the owner, but if she was, her service, the great small talk while the food is coming up, and her good food should make her proud. The spice was on point, good portions, I'm sold. You got yourself a new customer. Pardon the grammar, just was excited about sharing my experience."

"Edit: this is like the sixth or seventh time I get the veggie combo. There?s still new dishes!! Love it!! And still amazing service. Damn the veggie combo I?ve gotten three times each time it?s different and each time it?s 16 pieces of delicious authentic goodness. SO many flavors, some sweet, some meaty, spicy, fermented, fresh, just each bite bursts with something truly unique. It?s my go to takeout for the week. The staff is also nice. This place hits ALL the marks."

"You will not regret it!! I don't know where to start with Selam's from the 1st time I've ever visited I have received amazing customer service and good vibes across the board. Our server is ALWAYS so helpful in explaining the different items on the menu and always has a radiating smile that could turn even the most unpleasant day around. Dining inside allows you to embrace Ethiopian and Eritrean culture as they have art from across the regions displayed on the wall and around the restaurant. There is festive music playing and it truly is a culinary experience. I have been here with both vegetarians and meat lovers like myself and we have neither group has ever been disappointed. We usually start with the samosas (lentils, or beef) and then depending on the crowd we might start experimenting or get the tried and true combination platter. IT IS THE BOMB. It is a sharable portion for 2 (or maybe even 3) and it has so many flavors and textures to enjoy. I love the community aspect of being able to eat with our hands and share the experience with our friends and loved ones. Will visit again and again as long as I get to see the same familiar faces."

"One of the best restaurants in Boston. Dine in service is usually slow plan on it. The selection of Ethiopian beers and wines rotates, you have to ask once there. That said, every single thing on the menu has blown us out of the water coffee, wine, injera, and all the meats and lentils. They also deliver through the normal apps, and we've never had complaints the food holds up well."

"This is our new favorite local BYOB spot. We've been twice now. The staff is very warm and friendly and the food is superb. If you like well crafted food and are willing to pay for very interesting tasting, beautifully plated food then this is a great place to go. We've been twice and both times they have been great with dietary restrictions as well. It's charming, casual enough to walk in (if you can get in!) but also a great place to take visiting friends and relatives or for a special night out or date. The Wayne area needed a place like this. We'll keep going back for sure."

"We had a great desire for Ethiopian cuisine, and Selam definitely met our expectations. The restaurant is spacious and well-lit, providing plenty of seating for larger parties. The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. We ordered the Selam Meat and Veggie combination, which was simply delicious. This dish is ideal for two people, or possibly even more. It offered a wonderful blend of spicy and mild flavors. Additionally, the restaurant features a full bar and a professional coffee machine, serving Ethiopian beer as well. I tried the St. George, and it was quite enjoyable. Overall, this was a fantastic find!"

"First time trying Ethiopian. The food was delicious and there were many vegetarian options. I had the vegetable combination with five samplers: Gomen, Yemisir Wot, Fosolia Green Beans, Kik Alicha and Atkilt Wot served on a bed of Injera. The server was very friendly and patiently explained all the dishes. The decorations, including furniture made out of straw and traditional artwork, transformed the ambience into a more authentic and wholesome Ethiopian dining experience."

"My sister and I enjoy hanging out at this restaurant. I am in my 20s and she is in her 40s, just mentioning our ages to give a sense of the diverse crowd that enjoys this place. We have been coming here for over a year and have noticed that the music has gotten better, making the atmosphere more like a club. The 10 dollar cover fee for ladies is reasonable. The food is tasty and the drinks are good. The only areas for improvement would be the quality of the hookah and the sound system, which could be upgraded for a better experience."

"Always a good sign seeing a largely East African clientele spending a Sunday afternoon here at this Ethiopian standalone establishment on Telegraph. The vegetarian combo balanced a nice mix of spicy and mild. Yemeser Wot lentils had a depth of flavor unmatched. Injera tastefully tangy. "Extremely disappointed by the food I received as takeout. I've eaten here for years and have noticed the decline in quality recently. I understand the pandemic has affected all of us so deeply so I want to cut everyone some slack and I mean no harm by this review. My intention is to bring awareness to the level of care and attention that each of us brings to everything we do, including the state of mind we have when we cook or serve food that will nourish the bodies that consume it. Specifically the greens (2 dishes) were spiced outrageously so that they were inedible and they also tasted on the verge of spoiling. The portions were sadly minimal. I paid $25 for the vegetarian sampler, which in house might be acceptable because the presentation is so beautiful. However, as a take out dish in half full plastic containers, the value is extremely lowered. Even if I had paid half of the price, I would not have been satisfied with the quality. This is the 3rd try on the sampler and I will never order it again.. the only dish worth its salt is the shir wot, even though I noticed it's quality has declined also. Adding water? to thin out a dish does nothing for its quality and maybe keeps employees paid and the lights on- an immediate bandaid. You may lose some customers for the long haul. The entire meal pictured was $68. I myself am shocked and saddened. Please try to Keep your hearts open and ask for miracles so you, your employees, business and families can thrive.. we all CAN still thrive. Keep the faith and make an effort to do better. It's an excellent spot to gather with friends who enjoy sharing meals, as there is a diverse range of options available for both meat lovers and vegetarians. The flavors are complex and spicy but aren't overwhelmingly hot unless specified on the menu. Unfortunately, if you're a fan of alcoholic beverages, you'll find the selection of Ethiopian drinks quite limited. Although the menu lists eight types of beer and wine, only two were actually available during my visit. The biggest letdown was the absence of the traditional honey wine, which is essential for a complete Ethiopian dining experience. Overall, it’s a place worth trying and returning to."

"Pardon me, I do not eat this food regularly. I may get things wrong with this cuisine, and I will get this out of the way early, I did cheat a bit to finish this by using a fork, and I did use two hands to eat some of this.There, if you want to judge me for my transgressions and sins towards this cuisine, I will not be offended. I guess that would be like seeing you eat pizza with a knife and a fork.My eating habits notwithstanding, this restaurant, which does not seat many people, has some tasty food. All the stews are beautiful and have some superb flavor, the injera is easy to digest and works well (albeit the amount I received is fairly minimal). Even the honey wine pairs up well, but take your time drinking this.The staff is nice, but a tad judgmental. Again, I do not eat this on a regular basis. Forgive me for I have sinned against some of this food, and perhaps may have offended people because I eat this like a slob. However, work with me and show me how I can improve. Small criticisms aside, all in all it is a tasty dinner and have no real qualms about anything in particular."

"Sengatera offers the most delicious vegan Ethiopian cuisine we have tried in Portland. The owners are very friendly and make sure that you are well looked after. During our visit on a Thursday, we were the only patrons and the owner kindly covered the cost of our drinks and extra items as there was no bartender on duty. I would highly recommend Sengatera to any vegetarian or vegan looking for a great dining experience."
