"I was rebooked from the Hotel Patriachi to the Aquila Nera. Both hotels are owned by the same family and they close each one for a month during the slower winter months of January and February. The Hotel sits on a small square beside a canal. The grocery store is right across from the Hotel. I came by train and the bus service is infrequent. Upon calling the Hotel to help me get a taxi the manager (son of the owner) said I 'll be there in 10 minutes. He also gave me a ride back to the train station. My light-filled room looked onto the square. Breakfast was in the Hotel dining room. They brought a delicious pizza up to my room the first night. The second night I had the Friuli dinner, and later learned that the scrumptious salami and sausages were made by the father. I was fascinated by the finishing touch for some of the take out pizza orders: they scattered potato chips on top of the pizza before closing the boxes. I 've never seen, or heard of that, and intend to try it sometime!"

We stayed for dinner and we had a good time. Good local dishes. Discreet list of wines, almost all regional. Simple premises with courteous staff. Correct price.

Had lunch there today before visiting archaeological museum up the road. Choices are classics with nothing spectacular but done very well. Had the spaghetti pomodoro which was delicious, my girlfriend enjoyed her pizza margherita. Cheese very good on it. The local wine was excellent, but could have been cooler. Service efficient and friendly. Price very cheap, so great value. View menu

The restaurant we found it casually, for the excellent location in which it is located. Friendly staff always and very good food quality also invited us the next day to choose the place for a second lunch. We chose an appetizer with cooked ham, raw and cheese and side dishes, which I recommend because they were delicious! As a second dish we have divided a gnocco di susine, different from the classic gnocchetto, rightly different from region to region; here served 3 large dumplings with internally susine (good).

We were having a busy day sightseeing in Aquileia and decided to locate the Archeological Museum and eat nearby. This restaurant is at the end of the side street that the museum is on. It seemed to be the kind of place where local people eat. We sat in the dining room for our lunch. There is also a bar area and outdoor seating. We ordered a salad, Friulian meats with polenta and frico, penne with San Daniele ham, and gnocchi with venison ragu and washed it all down with Gosser beers. The penne was really good but very filling, kind of like creamy macaroni and cheese with ham. The meats were less successful being over cooked but the polenta and frico were yummy. Husband enjoyed his gnocchi. T...
