"I absolutely loved Café Bernard growing up when it was still owned by Bernard and I still love it now. I was a little worried at first the new management would make changes, and they have, but I think it has all been for the better. The spirit and character of the restaurant have remained (even their no cell phone use policy). I would particularly recommend any of the baked goods and pastries. They are all spectacular. I also really enjoy the smoke trout hash and the steak and eggs. For those complaining about the speed of the service, I would like to remind them that this is a tiny family owned restaurant and often only has one waitress and one chef on staff. All food is made to order, so if a bunch of people walk in at once, it’s gonna take a minute. This is a small town Café not McDonald’s be patient and respectful. Part of the reason this place is good is because of the ambience, sit back and enjoy it."

What a disappointment! We came upon this place walking in Basalt. I wish I checked the reviews before going in. It took 10 minutes to get the menu and almost an hour to get our food. I had to send back my food because the salmon was still pretty raw, so more waiting. Don’t waste your time here. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 View menu

It took us over an hour to be served. The cook took other tickets before ours. We couldnt even get our water refilled. We have been here before the sign says its not a fast food restaurant. But over an hour is ridiculous. My eggs Benedict had raw eggs and they offered sunny side up which took 10 minutes to make and were still raw! I couldnt eat them. The people I came with were done with thier meals by the time I got my eggs. We wont come back.

Grew up in Basalt. This was my favorite breakfast spot. I would take everyone here while visiting. Unfortunately, the place has gone significantly down hill possibly under new management. It took 30 minutes after being seated to just get water and coffee. Took another 45 minutes for food to arrive. Of our party’s order, the steak was over cooked and served in a pool of blood and some sort of gelatinous steak sauce, the crepes were still batter, the trout hash was in fact salmon and there was about two bites, the burrito was okay but lacked seasoning. I’ve never left a review in my life but Cafe Bernard has to turn it around. It was such an awesome part of downtown.
