"Ugh! Dinkel's is closing forever on April 30. This bakery is a Chicago institution and it's quite sad it will be closing for business after over 100 years in operation. Living in the neighborhood and passing by many times, I have always wanted to try but never made the attempt. The news of the closing prompted my first visit! Needless to say I got almost one of everything. I was headed to Boston to visit family and thought it a good excuse to bring a variety of baked goodies. The assorted cookies were a hot with the kids. Everyone loved the cookie sandwiches with the sprinkle topping. The lemon cookies were excellent as well. I really enjoyed the cake donuts. I had eaten a chocolate sprinkle donut before the trip to ensure I got to try! I also got a stollen and a few hot cross buns to freeze for later enjoyment. The line was not too bad. It was maybe 20 people deep when I went Thursday afternoon. But the line moved rather quickly and there was plenty of baked goods still available at that time of day. This placed will be missed!"

Great bakery! Get in before they close the end of the month. So glad I was able to try many of their treats.

I was very disappointed to hear about this bakery closing. I used to love their bear claws and the wide variety of baked goods they offered. It always had a wonderful aroma as soon as you walked in. View menu

It’s painful to see "closed" on this Yelp page. There's not much left to say, but we only moved down the street from Dinkels a few months ago, and I was really excited to enjoy their incredible donuts and pastries. I can only imagine how hard it must be for those who have cherished this place for generations. I hope to find a good substitute soon. Thank you, Dinkels!

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant for the first time. I ordered a BLT sandwich and asked to have avocado added. Unfortunately, what I received was a sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese instead. Since I was on my break, I didn’t notice the mix-up until I got back to the office. I decided to try it anyway since I was hungry, and it was just okay. So, just a heads up—be cautious when ordering. I didn’t enjoy my meal because it was not what I had requested. View menu

What can I say that wasn't said? Chicago loses a large institution, but this is endemic to change market dynamics. Another way, there is not a place for affordable family leading high quality bakeries. Unfortunately, the low-cost factory produces baked goods from Jewel, Marianos (isly Kroger but this is another contribution) and Costco are acceptable for most Happy Birthday Mom, here is some picked Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed, Soy, Palm, Soybean, Mono and Diglycerides, Polysorbates demand the increasing costs of all from real estate, high-quality ingredients and labor I made my last visit on Saturday. If you want to visit last time, I recommend going early and on a weekday. Waiting for...

Well my sister, coworker who I work with, as well as my close college friend mentioned about this place and by chance I am disappointed that they are now closing so I had to come over here and purchase some pastries before they do so unfortunately the owner Joseph Dinkel decided to call it quits so I better take my chance and buy some pastries. I usually go to Lutz Bakery on Montrose but this is the time I have to seize the moment in trying their cakes depending on when I get a chance to try it at home but I wanted to leave a review. So I tried their chocolate cupcakes and it was delicious. The icing was not too stiff. My only disappointment also is that it's a first come first serve and tha...

"Tempesta is arguably one of the best sandwich shops in the city. They make a lot of their meats in house and use high quality ingredients so you know you’re getting the good stuff. Not only can you get a great sandwich, you can purchase most of their meats to go as well as other small artisanal grocery items. I have tried almost every sandwich they have on the menu but my top two choices would be the #1 The Dante and the #2 Yo! Vincenzo! The Dante is their version of a classic Italian sandwich but a bit on the spicier side. The Yo Vincenzo is a chicken parm and I personally think it’s the best chicken parm sandwich in the city. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and they use just the right amount of sauce where it doesn’t get soggy. Both of these sandwiches come on their fresh baguette which helps set them apart from other sandwich spots in Chicago just because of how good it is. The B Franklin is also a great option, and if you’re starving get the Wagyu Pastrami but be warned it is a very heavy sandwich because of that Wagyu. The last pro tip I’ll add in here is order your sandwich ahead of time if you’re doing takeout. This is a very popular spot and is always busy during the lunch rush so if you wait to order until you arrive you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. That should speak to how good this place is because it’s in such high demand, so if you’re in Chicago make sure you stop in!"
