"There were 10 of us, ranging from ages 19 to 69, and everyone was satisfied with their meals. The service was efficient, the dishes were served hot and delicious, and the manager even stopped by to check on us. Drinks were promptly refilled, and the Chile rellenos were crispy on the outside and filled with flavorful cheese and peppers. My Chimichanga was also crispy and packed with tasty shredded beef. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful, with crispy lettuce. I must say, having traveled to Mexico and various countries in Europe, the Mexican cuisine at El Matador may not be completely authentic, but it is Americanized and truly delicious. I took leftovers home and reheated them the next day, and they were still crispy and flavorful, without being greasy. Overall, El Matador is a longstanding establishment that has been a favorite in Greenville and South Carolina for decades. If you enjoy affordable Mexican food, I highly recommend giving this original restaurant a try and forming your own opinion."

A bit costly I ordered the fajitas they were small for the price. And it took too long to wait for food; The food was reasonable, and I liked the music.

Great visit. The food came out fast and was delicious. Our waitress checked on us multiple times, which I like. And the atmosphere was hipster. If back in town I will stop by again. View menu

Eh. We came here after a long drive from New York State and I wasn't really impressed with the food. I ordered a chicken chimichanga, and although it was fried so perfectly, the chicken inside wasn't shredded and had NO seasoning. Not at all what I would expect from an authentic Mexican restaurant.

Without a doubt the worst Mexican food I've ever consumed on planet earth! Restaurant was dark, chips were stale salsa out of the can! Ordered chicken fajitas which are hard to mess up but they were over seasoned, dry and cold! The beans and rice that came with it tasted like an old tin can with lime juice on it! Usually fajitas come out sizzling but none of the 3 of us who ordered them were. Had to retrieve our own silverware from wait station nearby. The whole experience made me long for Taco Bell!

I am disappointed to see the decline in quality of this restaurant. We used to be regulars, but tonight will be our last visit in two years. The service was confusing and our orders were repeatedly incorrect. Despite our requests, our burrito arrived with cheese and red sauce, when we asked for none. After clarifying multiple times for a dry burrito, it still came out with red sauce and only chicken inside. It was embarrassing and frustrating. The server did not apologize or make any effort to correct the mistakes. The meal was also lacking in flavor. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and a waste of money. We will not be returning to support this establishment. View menu

I have been living in Greenville for over 28 years and just recently tried this restaurant for the first time. The building is unique and beautiful. As soon as we walked in, a friendly gentleman who turned out to be the owner greeted us and opened the door for us. He shook my husband's hand, introduced himself, and made us feel right at home. He was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making it seem like we were stepping into his own home rather than a restaurant. The food was delicious, especially the fajitas that I ordered. The salsa was flavorful with different tangy options. The service was good, although a bit busy. Despite that, I would definitely return to this restaurant in the future...

Dear El Matador Restaurant, Thank you for restoring my faith in the Mexican Joint here in South Carolina! We came across this place and decided to try it based on the reviews and come on, who can pass up a visit to the oldest Mexican restaurant in the state?! Everyone was super nice and made us feel like we were regulars. The menu is not the same as a lot of other Mexican restaurants. It is so much better! Trying some new items, we had the guacamole with ranch dressing. It's as good as it sounds, especially with their house made ranch. I also highly recommend the Fundido. It's a huge plate of goodness! The margarita is one of the best I've had in a long time and their sangria is home made an...
