"I have lived in Gilroy just over 10 years now. Before this most recent visit I had only been here one time, eight years ago, and it was not good. So I had not been back. I don't know if I simply got an anomalous bad experience, or something has changed, but this visit our meal was amazing. I told my wife spontaneously that we were going out to breakfast I just had to pick up trash downtown first! How romantic, right? She was surprised that I wanted to go to breakfast because my general policy regarding going out to eat is I either have to be away from home, or the restaurant must be able to do something that is incredibly difficult for me to do at home, better than I can do at home, or involves ingredients not easily sourced. That mentality makes it very hard to do what we did this morning and go to a local cafe. But we did. One could never say anything negative about the location of this restaurant, or the ambiance. Situated in the center of downtown Gilroy, it has that hometown feel and a few tables out right on the boulevard perfect for people watching. We were seated immediately and service for coffee and order taking was fast. Living by my credo above, I ordered the corned beef hash eggs benedict and my better half ordered the 8oz ribeye and eggs. Prices were very reasonable with todays inflation steak and eggs was $22 I believe and came with choice of toast, short stack, or french toast. She chose the latter. I was surprised when my server asked how I wanted my poached eggs. I thought, right, like a restaurant can even do this any more, we'll see. This is where the only negative came in don't expect a quick in and out for breakfast here. Clearly their kitchen is not prepared for a full dining room as our table was no different than others in that it took about 30 minutes for our food to come out all the while I was thinking to myself, this had better be amazing... And, IT WAS! Both plates came out as if they just came off the griddle. My dish was beyond my expectations The eggs were somewhere between easy and medium (ordered medium) but I would rather they be a tad under than over. The hollandaise sauce is rarely done right at most breakfast places often even broken this one was really good, sharp flavor, right temp, no chance this was sitting on the pass for a five minutes. The corned beef hash was good most likely not homemade, but it didn't matter it was properly grilled up before assembly. The country potatoes are something I usually never eat at a breakfast place because they are either cold, or worse, reheated. These seemed fresh from the grill/fryer and were delicious. My wife's steak was cooked nicely and the star, she said, was the salsa. I agreed. She wanted the recipe! French toast was good not as good as mine at home but nicely done. Overall, we'll be back and hope that we have another good experience nothing I am more disappointed by than a place that does things right, sometimes. So crossing my fingers. Give it a shot, report back here!"

We went for late lunch for first time and were very impressed. We had the garlic chicken sandwich and pastrami sandwich. Both were delicious and flavorful. Good portion. It's a small hole in the wall but we will go back!

Had a delicious lunch at Gilroy City Cafe, enjoying their Chicken and Prawn Spaghetti with a side of garlic bread and garlic dried tomato sauce. The meal also came with a choice of soup or salad, along with a unique and tasty Chicken Wrap. The food was juicy and satisfying. Highly recommend for anyone in the Gilroy or Bay Area looking for great eats! #gilroy #gilroyfood #gilroydowntown #bayareaeats #bayarea #bayareafoodie #foodie #foodblogger View menu

When in Garlic City, one must eat garlic of course! This is a diner-like cafe with limited ambiance but everything is well made! We enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable meal in an unhurried fashion! We had garlic soup, garlic burgers and garlic fries! The soup was clearly homemade and quite tasty! The burgers each came with at least eight cloves of roasted garlic! Perfect! The fries could have been crispier. Next time, will order extra well done! We were pleasantly surprised with the food and the coffee was suitable strong! What else do I need? Nothing! Garlic focused food and coffee and life is good!

This was the best hamburger I have had in California so far. We tried the Garlic Burger and it was absolutely delicious. It was so juicy and flavorful that I didn't even need to add mustard or any other condiments. The meat was cooked perfectly to medium, just as we requested. The cafe itself had a narrow dining area with the front door open to let in the cool air. The aroma of garlic, which is a signature of the city, filled the room. The staff and other diners were all very friendly, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. It felt as though we were dining in a different country rather than an American restaurant. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.

I have lived in Gilroy all my life......Garlic City Cafe is by far the best restaurant in town. They serve high end meals at a cafe price. The service is great. All staff are super nice and friendly. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal. The chicken piccata is out of this world great. The pasta dishes are wonderful. All the salads are very fresh and not bagged lettuce. If you are vegetarian or vegan there are options that with a simple request can accommodate your wished. The is a top notch restaurant with great ambiance. I look forward to going here for any meal. You will not be disappointed. *The city of Gilroy is again doing construction that can interfere with a business. They... View menu

We came here after noticing the restaurant we originally wanted to try was temporarily closed. Garlic City Cafe was across the street, so Gavin and I walked over and was seated immediately. It was quite empty on a regular Friday. Gavin was on his summer break, so I took the day off to take him to Monterey Bay Aquarium. Service was great. The menu was quite overwhelming. They had a lot to offer and as always, my eye is bigger than my stomach. I was able to control myself and did not overdo it this time. Gavin wanted waffles; he ordered their chocolate chip waffle. I ordered their portobello mushroom and garlic omelet. Instead of toast, I wanted the pancakes. What else can I say? I love Americ...

The food at this restaurant is incredibly delicious. Every dish we tried was fantastic. The signature cream of garlic soup is a must-try, with its creamy texture and diced potatoes. The $6.95 price for a bowl is a great deal. Our favorite dish was the egg-battered calamari steak with pasta, which came with garlic, artichoke, capers, lemon, butter, cooked broccoli, and carrots. The calamari was cooked perfectly, with a great texture that wasn't rubbery. We even licked the plate clean! We also tried the garlic chicken eggplant sandwich which was also amazing, with a perfect combination of flavors and a pesto spread. The side salad was crisp and the honey Dijon mustard dressing was light with a...

"feb 2022 update: eating is still wonderful and the staff is still incredibly sweet. we ate here on both segments of a family road, a few days apart, and when I ordered the same (huaraches con salsa roja) at my second visit, the señora asked me, vegano otra vez I was thrilled to remember, I am not particularly remarkable looking, she is just so beautiful. she prefers to speak Spanish, and while my Spanish is still terrible, I am always excited to practice the opportunity without feeling like I was wasting the time of a person. my family ubiquitous also wants everyone to know that the meaty dishes are also good, so if you have to feed a mixed amount, here it is. when I lived closer, I come here every week. jan 2020 review: eating is fantastic and the staff is so sweet. I am so glad that people find this place through happy cow! I added it a few months ago and now that I was twice, it's time to check. I led it up from san luis obispo and came ten minutes before closing, but the señoras were incredibly nice about it - not only did they make me go a gorgeous Tacos-Dorados plate (crust tacos with brows and kartoffeln and pico de gallo, plus rice and drilling), but they brought me a hot hot chips and salsa while I was waiting terribly Spanish. the chips are obviously homemade by homemade tortillas, and as a golden and flaky as a good croissant (like the dishes of tacos dorados.) and the salsa is fantastic- cool and spicy, with tomatoes and tomatoes. Last time I was here, I got the lobster, essentially a long flat maisflour pancake, filled with bores and covered with salsa verde and wobble. I'm a lobster fan and it was one of the best I had. I also spent a long time mulling over the vegan menu, and when I ordered the huarache, the server assured that I knew it came in the rule with milk cheese and that I would eat it without sweet people and good. the other half of the company is a small food, so while they can wait for it to eat they can wait for local avocados or cacahuetes japoneses. updated by previous review on 2020-01-22"
