"As I walked from the car to the restaurant entrance, I could literally smell the jerk chicken sizzling away on a barbecue smoker in the back, and I was eager to dig in. They had oxtails on the menu, which I had to try, along with rice and peas—a staple dish. I inquired about sweet cabbage and plantains, and the young man behind the counter smiled and said, "Oh, so you know then?" Trust me, I know! For my fiancé, who is new to Caribbean cuisine, I suggested she play it safe. She went with fried chicken, jerked mac and cheese, and I recommended both cabbage and plantains as sides. I also ordered a beef patty. The food was incredible—totally legit and, most importantly, utterly delicious at a fantastic price. On weekdays, a small portion lunch meal (which was actually quite generous) includes your choice of rice and peas or mac and cheese, cabbage and plantains, plus your main dish and a drink—all for just $10! The interior could use some serious updating. It’s quite dated and the layout is a bit haphazard—more of a deli/lunch spot than a restaurant, and you can't order a sandwich or pick up sides for a picnic. It’s a little strange: folding tables and chairs, random posters on the walls, and nothing really matches. However, I’m not bothered by that at all—I’m here to eat, and a place like this doesn’t need to impress with décor; it needs to shine through its food, which it certainly does. If you are familiar with Caribbean cuisine, you’ll find this place to be the real deal. If you’re looking to try something new, definitely give it a shot. However, if you have very high standards for restaurants, or if spicy ethnic foods aren’t your thing, you might consider skipping it, but that would be a big mistake. Vegetarian options: I mean, have you ever experienced Caribbean food before? They put pork in their greens, for heaven's sake! Kid-friendliness: I suppose it’s kid-friendly, but it’s not as if there’s a ball pit in the corner or crayons on the tables. Parking: There isn’t a lot of parking available, but it shouldn’t be a problem. Wheelchair accessibility: Maybe from the back, but it’s not really ADA compliant. Still, once you catch a whiff of those spices, even if I were wheelchair-bound, I’d find a way to drag myself inside! Dietary restrictions: If you don’t like pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, or goat, or if you're not a fan of bold, spicy dishes, you might find it overwhelming—but trust me, the flavors are heavenly!"
