"I have been eating Cantonese and Szechuan food my entire life but I have never experienced Huainyang cuisine. Jcer is the first of its kind in Canada. There were 10 of us and we sampled around 20 dishes. Everyone was out of this world from the cold entres marinated beef and duck both were great the taste sutble and nuanced. As the meal progressed I must admit all the dishes had a little something that stood out and no dish tasted the same. Some were sweet like the whole fish some garlicky like the shrimp some savory like the beer duck. All the plates were appealing to the eye and your taste buds We had a private room but the restaurant decor is beautiful. Would I go back ABSOLUTLEY!!! It is at 505 deMaisoneuve a short hop from Montreal's Place des Spectacle. So enjoy a great meal and go to a show"

I had made a reservation through OpenTable for a table at the restaurant. However, when I arrived, I found that the restaurant was closed. View menu

I was a female traveling alone for leisure. Atmosphere was well lit, clean and quiet at time of visit. Good selection of dishes and food was fresh and well prepared.

Overall pretty mediocre. Standard fare chinese (I should say my wife is Chinese and we spend about 6 month annually in China), American taste, but no real sparkles. Oolong tea turned out to be a bag in a pot of lukewarm water. Ambiance is non-existing. Service was attentive. About as American-Chinese as you can get.

An earlier reviewer said that this was the best Chinese food he 'd ever had, and I agree. Everything was delicious, and our server was very helpful in telling us about the various dishes. The menu is not at all like what you find in the typical Chinese restaurant. The prices are also quite reasonable. Wish we lived closer to Montreal, because we would definitely return.

"This evening I opted for Toqué’s seven-course tasting menu, and while the service was nothing short of exceptional, the experience unfortunately fell flat where it mattered most—the food. I wanted to love Toqué so badly, and I was excited to see if the restaurant lived up to its reputation. To be clear, It’s not that the ingredients were bad. They were fine—perfectly average, even. But we came expecting culinary fireworks, and instead, it was more of a damp sparkler moment. The dishes were neither memorable nor particularly flavorful, leaving little to linger on the palate or in our minds. For a tasting menu at this price point, we anticipated an experience that would excite and surprise, but instead found ourselves with courses that were forgettable and uninspired. Not a single course left me wow’d and despite the modest portion sizes, many of the plates left our table largely untouched. The flavors just didn’t inspire the kind of enthusiasm that draws you back for that next bite, and ultimately, it spoke volumes about the disconnect between expectation and execution. Montreal is overflowing with incredible food, and I’ve long believed it can hold its own against some of the best food cities around the world. With that in mind, I couldn’t help but feel a little deflated. There are so many gems in this city that bring creativity, heart, and an actual punch of flavor—Toqué just didn’t do Montreal any justice tonight."
