"A chic traditional French bakery, La Fournette, is located right off of North Avenue in the neighborhood of Old Town, Chicago. The storefront’s N. Wells Street facing facade is that of wood paneling emblazoned with ornamental moldings, which emits an aura that is equal parts warmth and probity. +2.25 A wide array of decadent and filling pastries, sandwiches, coffees, beverages, and more, can be procured at this establishment. During my last visit I tried a coffin shaped pastry with a subtlety sweet pumpkin lekvar given that Halloween was around the corner. +2.65 4.90 5"

After looking over their selection we opted for the almond croissant and apple turnover. They did not disappoint! We will be back.

Wish I had discovered this place earlier. It has the best croissants! Their hours are a bit tough to make though since they close early.

They do a fantastic job with the breads especially with the sourdough. We usually swing by early Sunday morning and by the end of the day View menu

I am a French teacher and my students had a wonderful experience sampling many of La Fournette's delicious pastries. MERCI BEAUCOUP! I highly recommend

We were visiting Chicago and bought a baguette, Pistachio Madeleines, and a coconut cookie. They were wonderful tasting! They were also beautiful! Next time I hope to get a picture of the baguettes!

I'm visiting from Seattle which has its fair share of French bakeries. I have to say, La Fournette is the closest to the real thing that I've had stateside. The foodstuffs and the coffee are AMAZING. View menu

Fresh baked sourdough bread is easier to digest and when made with rye flour is even better. La Fournette has a nice selection of breads and bakeries at their nearby neighborhood location. Get there early, as they are open from 7 AM to 2 PM.

located in old town district in chicago, this french bakery is a must stop. The Alsace cookies are their signature, which was very excellent and I ate the whole bag myself over two days, but the almond croissant didn’t taste fresh, not flaky and crispy as you expect a croissant. Quiche was very good and good coffee too. next time I will try their baguette, it smelled and looked great.

"Tempesta is arguably one of the best sandwich shops in the city. They make a lot of their meats in house and use high quality ingredients so you know you’re getting the good stuff. Not only can you get a great sandwich, you can purchase most of their meats to go as well as other small artisanal grocery items. I have tried almost every sandwich they have on the menu but my top two choices would be the #1 The Dante and the #2 Yo! Vincenzo! The Dante is their version of a classic Italian sandwich but a bit on the spicier side. The Yo Vincenzo is a chicken parm and I personally think it’s the best chicken parm sandwich in the city. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and they use just the right amount of sauce where it doesn’t get soggy. Both of these sandwiches come on their fresh baguette which helps set them apart from other sandwich spots in Chicago just because of how good it is. The B Franklin is also a great option, and if you’re starving get the Wagyu Pastrami but be warned it is a very heavy sandwich because of that Wagyu. The last pro tip I’ll add in here is order your sandwich ahead of time if you’re doing takeout. This is a very popular spot and is always busy during the lunch rush so if you wait to order until you arrive you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. That should speak to how good this place is because it’s in such high demand, so if you’re in Chicago make sure you stop in!"
