"I had always heard that Sal e Pepe was a great restaurant in Newtown, and one visit was all it took to solidify those claims! For very good reason, they’ve swept the Connecticut Magazine awards for years. We had the cheesy garlic bread for anappetizer, and even though it had quite the blanket of mozzarella on it, it was a surprisingly light bread that my fiancé and Ihad no problems taking down ourselves. There’s also a hint of lemon in the butter, which they also bring with the normal breadfor the table, and it’s really tasty! Our other appetizer was the angus beef bites, and we found the meat to be tender, andthe potato croquettes to be a delicious topper. The star of the show for me was Mrs. Marini’s Lasagna Bolognese. Though I’mItalian, I’m not usually the biggest lasagna lover because I’m used to my family making it with a ton of ricotta, whichI’m the biggest fan of. This lasagna is literally the best I’ve ever had because it had the most layers of pasta I’ve everseen, with no ricotta and a blend of cheeses instead! The sauce was also delicious and had just the right amount of meat mixedin. If you don’t get the lasagna on your visit, you’re missing out! My fiancé loved the parmesan tilapia, which is theirbest seller, and I also loved the short rib ravioli the meat was so flavorful in this dish! For dessert, we enjoyed thetiramisu and the drunken cherries, which we had never seen on a menu before. We loved this restaurant so much, we were about togo back in a couple days had the timing worked out when we were in the area. I told the owner I’ll be bringing my Italiangrandfather here to try that lasagna!"

"Ehhhhh... $153 for 3 salads, kids meal a shared dessert. No mixed drinks. Just waters.. Our waitress seemed preoccupied with something else, when we had a question about a GF meal she gave us an attitude. We had a party of 8, asked for split checks. The water servers were fantastic though. Glasses were always filled, very pleasant to deal with. I don't think I'd come back. Just not worth it. They had GF options for my wife, that was nice, but I wouldn't give them a stellar review just for that. Dietary restrictions: They do have GF options Kid-friendliness: No crayons, no activities."

"Had a great time here on Wednesday! Enjoyed some great drinks (the floor is guava) and great dinner as well. I enjoyed the Miso Braised Salmon which was amazing, and my friend had the classic burger which she enjoyed and I brought home the Huli Huli Pulled Pork for my boyfriend and he also wants to take a trip to Newtown now to see the Foundry for himself! Our server was kind and attentive, and especially patient as we took our time ordering since my friend and I had a lot to catch up on and never made us feel rushed. I appreciated her patience and I wish I could remember her name, but she was great! Definitely will be back next time I’m passing through. "Okay this has quickly become our favorite spot to dine in Newtown. Oh my gosh all of the food is so yummy. The staff being it to next level. They save your drink preferences in your system so they remember the wine you loved or the cocktail you’re probably going to order. That little extra step makes it so personal and intimate. For food, you have to order the steak skewers OUT OF THIS WORLD. The focaccia bread is the best I’ve ever had, with the exception of a small deli I visited in Italy. The pasta dish is amazing. The pork chop wrapped in bacon is exceptional. The steak is outstanding. I don’t have a bad thing to say. Now please excuse me sheik I go make a reservation for this weekend!! "We have been to this location a handful of times, and each time was not great but acceptable, however after my recent experience there is no way I will ever go back. Last Friday we decided at the last minute to go here, and it seems every time we go the owner and her family are having dinner. You have to see this, there is a round table in the back corner, where they all congregate, and they feast like kings, its quite comical, because they are served before the guests even though you arrived much earlier, and the staff is mainly focussed on this table, you the paying customer comes last at this time of day. So we placed our order, and my wife ordered the chicken, and I asked for a margarita pizza, but before I ordered it I asked how it was made, and I explained in full detail how I would like it, fresh mozzarella, no basil. Simple right WRONG. They brought out our meals, and I am looking at what they put out in front of me and this was not what I ordered. They brought out a round piece of dough, with a few slices of tomato, and melted mozzarella. NO SAUCE!!!. So I tried to get someone 's attention, and they were all so focused on the round table, and the feast of kings I was ignored. I grabbed someone as they walked by, and our waitress decided to come over, and see what was wrong. I told her this was not what I ordered, she had this dear in the headlights look left and went to the kitchen, and then came back with a menu and made the lamest excuse and said Well I can 't blame the guys in the kitchen, because the menu says 'White Pizza and that is how its made, it was at this point I was ready to fling this garbage in front of me over to the feast of kings, but then I decided to calm down, and I told her take it away, I can 't eat this, its disgusting, and she did. So then my wife says calm down, and eat some of my chicken, I can 't eat all this so I reluctantly took a taste, and when I tasted it, I looked at my wife and I said this is good to you and she didn 't respond, I said this taste like cardboard , she again didn 't say anything, I then tried the pasta, and that was edible. We were both ignored all night after the pizza incident, then the waitress finally comes over, and asked if we wanted desert, I had to literally bite my tongue, I laughed and said No we are done, just the check She hands me the check, I said to my wife do you realize they charged us almost $30 for your meal (chicken), she said I thought it was $24, then I saw the rest, and I was even more disgusted. What disgusted me the most is how the owner just ignored what happened, and continued to feast with her guests. At the end of the day with tip, (yes I tipped, definitely wasn 't deserved) $45.00 Chicken dinner with two cokes. Before we left as we exited, I grabbed a handful of mints, and my wife said to me what are you doing I said I need something to take this disgusting taste out of my mouth. This had to be the worst experience I haver expierienced at a restaurant. Never again. Hopefully the owner will realize after reading this that the customer is the most important person in that room, because it is the customer that makes it possible for you to feast like kings at your round table!!!!"
