"We came here for my partner’s birthday as a recommendation from a friend, so going into this experience we had a fairly high expectation given it’s price point and reputation. The quality of fish and presentation’s attention to detail was above par, however there several factors that contribute to this overall 3 star review. We went to Toshokan a couple months ago, where there was the head chef present and every dish was prepared in front of everyone. The music at this place was slight random and eclectic, didn’t go with the vibe of the restaurant was a bit obnoxious. The servers weren’t up to par considering how much we are paying for this experience. A bit unprofessional and too talkative. We recommend Toshokan instead for a more special and high-end experience. This felt like going to a mediocre sushi restaurant."

The whole crew made sure we have a great experience. The Omakase experience served 20 extremely tasty courses and was more than enough for me to feel full. The cocktails were amazing ?

As others have pointed out, the food was extraordinary, but the service left much to be desired. It's an unusual contradiction for a fine dining establishment to offer such casual service, especially considering the price of $500 per person.

This place sucks, food is way overpriced and the dishes are very small. After eating here I left and went to another restaurant because i was still hungry. Seriously, each plate had like 3 little pieces of thinly sliced fish. i guess if you already ate somewhere else and are not really hungry then this is the place for you.

This review is for watertrade, the cocktail bar associated with Otoko. Great cocktails I had the Double Rainbow Surprise and I found it to be refreshing and drinkable yet strong. Hamachi was great too as a small bite. You pay for the trendy atmosphere but it’s definitely worth it if you’re feeling that vibe. Very high quality View menu

Otoko was a fantastic experience and offered some of the best sushi in Austin. It’s still close between (sushi by scratch, uchi and now otoko). We came on a weekend and did get some dishes we didn’t care for (I’m looking at you egg dish). As a whole though, it was phenomenal. I did read on Wednesdays it was sushi-only and wish that happened more days of the week.

Coming from someone that has spent quite a bit of time in Japan, this is the best and most authentic Omakase in Austin (maybe Texas), bar none.If you're looking for a sensual journey and a very unique experience for your taste buds, you're in for a treat. However, if your definition of eating sushi is gulping down California, rainbow, and double fried Philadelphia cream cheese rolls until your belt buckle bursts, this probably isn't the place for you.

The staff seems to believe they are serving a meal that will leave a lasting impression, making all other meals pale in comparison. Instead, their pretentious attitude only made things worse. The two sushi chefs spent most of their time lecturing us on various topics, while they struggled to prepare sushi rice that meets even basic culinary standards. It’s frankly embarrassing that they are so unaware of their own deficiencies. If I could give the sushi omakase zero stars, I would. Save your money and choose something else. View menu

I have been wanting to visit Otoko for a couple years; but, this time the occasion and time worked out for a Tuesday dinner.I received a call ahead of time to ask about any dietary restrictions. I definitely appreciated the call. Dining at Otoko is more than eating good quality food, drinking good cocktails. It is an art show. We started with having some cocktails at the bar and moved to dining room. It was only 6 people and we were greeted by a saki sommelier and his assistant server. The chefs were very precise, friendly; but professional. The cadence os service was immaculate and at the end of the night head chef came and completed the desert.I will definitely go back.

The standout surprises were some of the non-sushi dishes, such as the escargot and the incredible mushroom tempura (wow!). The shirumono was also a highlight, especially when paired with the mussel. Of course, the sushi remains the main attraction, and this place sets a new benchmark for nigiri. My favorites were the kanpachi, aji, and madai, but honestly, no bite disappointed. The sake pairings added a fantastic dimension to the experience, and I appreciated the background information provided for each selection. It was truly a pleasure to witness the artistry and passion of our chefs as they prepared our meal, and I hope they know how honored I felt to experience the fruits of their labor...

"I literally just made a review but I’m going to make another one because for whatever reason someone or somehow it got deleted. I used to be a regular at Bouldin and the service was always amazing but my last two visits have been by far horrible. The service has been so poor that I felt disgusted when leaving the restaurant. There are two girls that work there with light brown hair and blue eyes. Pretty sure one of their names is Rego. My boyfriend and I were served by her before and she seemed nothing but annoyed and couldn’t care less if we were in her section. Barley even interacted with us or asked how our meal was and just seemed disgusted by us, just being rude passive aggressive for no reason at all. I’m a server and I KNOW this isn’t how you treat your guests and the same thing happened tonight. She just seemed like she couldn’t care less if we were there and just seemed annoyed? I don’t mind paying the gratuity if I’m being treated decently but that wasn’t the case and I feel as though they feel like they think they can get away with behaving like mean girls just because there’s a gratuity. I have friends that dine here as well and they have had the same experience. I’m not one to write reviews but I feel this needs to come across a managers attention so they know who they are hiring and how they are treating customers. Really disgusted and disappointing and if this gets deleted again I’ll write another review or just call the store to speak to a manager. Disgusted by their behavior."
