"The sushi was fresh, and our server was friendly during our meal. The chicken teriyaki had a unique flavor, but it was served with an unusual side of potato salad. The prices are quite high compared to the portion sizes. I would have given a 4-star rating, but we experienced an unfortunate incident when our server chased us down outside and expressed dissatisfaction with our tip (10% before taxes). She claimed her manager would be upset with her and pressured my friend into changing the credit card receipt. This left a bad taste, as tips should be accepted graciously, not demanded or coerced by a server seeking repeat business. I can’t imagine the manager would be pleased to know they've potentially lost future revenue from our group due to this experience. This is literally the first time something like this has ever happened to me, and I hope it will be the last. Out of curiosity, I checked other reviews and found that this has happened to several other customers as well!"

We decided to give this place a try since I've seen them come up on yelp quite a few times.

I'm kind of on the fence between giving this place a 3 or 4 star rating, but I'll there were some hit or misses here.

I highly recommend visiting this restaurant! It's a hidden gem with delicious food and reasonable prices. They serve traditional hand rolls with crispy seaweed, which are a must-try! View menu

My family and I used to go here for lunch or dinner. I don’t live in Houston anymore, and took down memory lane last month. Their salmon bento was still delicious. Brought me happy tears! Their appetizer, rolls are great, shabu shabu is authentic. I’m picky for Japanese food, this one meets my standard.

This place has awesome sushi rolls. My favorite is the tornado roll. The bento box is ok except for the shrimp tempura coating. I like mine to have a crunch. The coating was a little soft. The ginger sauce is amazing. Our waitress was slow in checking on us after food delivery. I had to ask for the check and a pen.Food: 4/5 View menu

Sushi Jin is consistently amazing. We go maybe once a month. It is our go-to sushi spot. They know my face, they welcome me, they always have incredible service. They are a family run business, and it shows. All of the fish cuts are excellent, but the hamachi is a highlight. I can’t say enough about them. I only wish they were closer to my house!

This was my first visit to this restaurant, and it did not go well. The waiter walked out and insisted that we provide a higher tip based on their guidelines. We tipped according to the service we received, but being confronted for more and made to feel uncomfortable is not acceptable. The server did mention that they were facing staffing shortages since COVID, which many businesses are dealing with. However, it seems the owner isn’t offering a sufficient base salary, prompting the waitstaff to demand extra tips from customers. I won’t be returning here; I’ve never had an experience like this before.

"Food good. Location good. Service good. BUT, the hidden charges REALLY ruined an otherwise nice experience. Example: HH menu lists Martinis as a $3 upcharge to the $7 base charge. Fair enough. Bombay is a listed alcohol; requested. When the bill was returned I was charged for a Bombay Sapphire which is not on the HH list. Charge? $11 $3. I asked for Bombay, not Bombay Sapphire. Waiter: Oh, let me look into that. AND, by the way Blue Cheese olives? Extra $1. REALLY? I 've NEVER paid extra for BC olives ANYWHERE. AND the confusing menus that a dish as including an extra sauce, [and I don 't recall the exact language but it made it seem that an additional items could be selected as well. Oops, there goes an extra $10.95. AND, the waiter recommending a twice-baked potato. Bah, boom, another $5.95. [which in fairness is disclosed on the menu in a different location, but waiter made it sound as if it was a no-charge option on the surf and turf. AND the split plate charge which I don 't think was disclosed on the menu. Ding, ding, extra $3.00. Was this a waiter, who was overly up-selling or restaurant deception? Don 't know. As I said, the food WAS good. AND, the ambience [at least in the bar area, stay away of the hotel-ballroom-like main dining area was nice. Just beware the nickel and dime charges that the waiter won 't be disclosing to you."
