"We were looking for a restaurant that is advertised on Yelp that is now closed and we came upon SVH Bistro. The atmosphere is like eating in someone's living room (carpeted floor) with table settings. There was another party of locals (7) and everyone was friendly. The owner is the former mayor of Demopolis and he is the cook. His wife is running the front half. The food was average. My burger was way overcooked, but probably people around here like it that way. I never was asked how done I wanted the meat. The bathroom has a toilet that doesn't flush. You spray it with disinfectant after use. It is up on a platform. Check it out for nostalgia! The best part was the kindness of the owners and the others eating when we were present."

Found this gem only because of Yelp. We were passing through on our way from Jackson to Selma. The food was great. The service was great. And wonderful hospitality by the owners.

Eclectic fun find in downtown Demopolis, Alabama. Tara was our server and was bubbly friendly and southern. We loved her personality and attention. The food was very good and filling and our tea glasses were never empty. View menu

This is the definition of a hidden gem. I was in Demopolis on a Monday and found this was one of the only places open on Monday. The food was amazing and the service staff very friendly. I recommend trying this place out.

Excellent! One if the best places around...rotating menu done well. This is a mom and pop restaurant, which means your food is cooked to order and the service is a little slower, but its worth the wait. The environment is great for a date night or family dinner, or even if you just need a corner.

Well we travel a lot use Yelp to find hidden gems in small towns. This was not one of them!! We choose this little local restaurant because it had good reviews. Not sure what happen but the reviews did not match the food we received!! The cheeseburger was over salted!! The fries were very strange!! The fried grouper was disgusting !! I know I ordered fish but the smell was awful!! The potato was not to good either!! The salad was so small!! My advice is pick a different restaurant !!! View menu

A gem of a place in Marengo County. A local recommended the Bistro to us as a place to relax, have a nice glass of wine and enjoy good food. We more than achieved all three objectives. Mike and Susan, the proprietors, make everyone feel at home and like you are a part of the family. We liked this dining experience so much that we went back again two nights later. The first night we had a crab cake appetizer and one of the best burgers I have eaten. The second night we split a steak salad, and the steak was tender with an amazing dressing. I recommend that anyone close to Demopolis give the Bistro a try. You will have a great experience.

We are staying at the Foscue Creek Campground near Demopolis. Decided to explore the area and found this terrific spot for lunch. (They also serve dinner 4:30 to 9. The decor is eclectic, the food is very good and the service is friendly. I was very impressed with the freshness of the vegetables. The okra actually came out of the owners garden. And, if you are hankering for or have never had southern green beans with bacon and new potatoes, this is your place. Also, the bread pudding was from the owner's mother's recipe and it was as good as any I have had at upscale 5 star restaurants. This is worth the stop if you are visiting the area or find yourself passing through. Be sure to walk arou...

"You peruse the menu and settle on something classic, perhaps a beef enchilada and a beef hard taco. Although the meal arrives promptly, it isn’t particularly visually appealing. To your surprise, you notice there’s no hot sauce like Cholula or Tapatio on the table—strange, but you shrug it off. The first bite of the beans and rice is promising, but things quickly take a downturn when you taste the taco or enchilada. Everything on your plate is clearly store-bought. The taco shells seem to come straight from El Paso or even Taco Bell, while the corn tortilla on the enchilada is cold and raw. The meat resembles a bland mash of ground beef, reminiscent of what you might find in lesser Mexican eateries in Alabama—just plain unappetizing. When the waiter, without asking, inquires if everything was good, we exchanged incredulous looks, and my wife candidly replied, “No, everything was not good. Everything was store-bought.” Not a single item on our plates appeared to be prepared from scratch in the restaurant. As a Mexican, I can confidently say this isn’t authentic Mexican food. The waiter stood there, seemingly taken aback, casting us a dubious glance, but he did not disagree. He merely thanked us for coming and took our plates away. Now, we regret choosing Las Fuentas Mexican Restaurant, as we could have enjoyed much better food from Taco Bell for roughly the same price. Save yourself the disappointment and dine elsewhere."
