"This is the only place I've been in Charlottesville that has asked if we would prefer marbled or lean brisket. Which impressed me right at the start and made me appreciate everything that followed. We went with marbled. It was delicious. The options are sandwich or platter, but platter just meant a sandwich with more sides. The bread wasn't amazing, just a basic white brioche style, not terrible but not really adding much, so I ate the BBQ without it. Would probably benefit from grilling the bun, maybe trying something a touch yeastier. The meat was nicely cooked, not too chewy and very flavorful. Could do a big of work on their sauces, but it seems like they were trying to cover a range of flavors. Could use something sweeter. Pulled pork was also delicious, collards were just right, Mac and cheese was impressive. Much better than you'd expect of a small BBQ joint. Al dente. Very basic utilitarian seating area, maybe with a touch of modern industrial style. Good vibes actually, counter to that other review. The counter attendant was very pleasant and accommodating. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for a tour of the BBQ in Charlottesville. Significant improvement over the BBQ joint that used to occupy the same location. I'll be back."

The baked cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and seafood soup were excellent. However, the main courses fell short. The five-spice dish was dry and relatively bland, while the stuffed squash was served lukewarm and needed to be reheated. Fortunately, the pineapple cake provided a delightful ending to the meal.

The food here is fantastic. I have to say it’s not my absolute favorite barbecue, but I still really enjoy it. They offer a nice selection of sauces, and the side dishes are excellent. I can vouch that there’s often a bit of a wait, even if you’re the only one in the restaurant, but it’s definitely worth it for the quality of the food they provide.

Outstanding restaurant situated in an historic home. It's a little tight and noisy if you sit downstairs and the bar and tables are extremely close together. The dishes, short ribs and salmon were excellent and large portions. Had the fried brussel sprouts and cauliflower for an appetizer and it was excellent. Wine list is extensive! Highly recommend this place! The barbecue is great and theres some good sides like fried mac and cheese and hush puppies and cornbread. This place is small but it has a decent amount of seating inside and a bunch of seating outside. The best part about the meat here is they cook the meat and leave it in warmers for the Local restaurant and catering so when you order a sandwich, they are pulling that barbecue right at that moment, not just pulling from heated bin of already pulled meat like so many other places.

The Local has been a favorite of ours ever since our youngest started attending UVA. It's been 5 years since he graduated, but we still go back to the Local every time we're in CVille. And still enjoy it every time! Saturday night, the salmon with green curry, which sounded interesting on the menu, turned out to be fairly plain. Still well-prepared, just a little less adventurous than we anticipated. Stuffed squash with goat cheese, which we've had many times before, still a winner. As was the crispy shrimp appetizer. Looking forward to our next visit!
