"First of all, we though Jailah was friendly, attentive, and did a great job as our server! I didn 't have the oysters, but I would not recommend if you are looking for quality seafood. The fried pickles were actually really good! The chilled shrimp appetizer was average so we were hopeful! We ordered the Fried J.O. platter and the Broiled J.O. Platter. They should not use the term loaded in the description because each item sat on the plate without touching and it was barely enough to feed one hungry person. Nothing special about the fried items. The batter had no flavor and the stuffed crab tasted like bland thanksgiving stuffing and we couldn 't find any meat in it. The broiled items again had no flavor and scallops were a little overcooked and chewy. French fries were average, fried okra was tasteless, cheese grits were a bland runny mess, but they didn 't mess up the steamed broccoli... We planned on dessert, but after the main course decided to pass. Overall, way overpriced for the quality. Parking was tight as it always is with downtown restaurants. Atmosphere was casual and not too cramped. With a 4.5 rating we expected A LOT more. Maybe you will have better luck with other menu items??"

Whether you are a resident of Mobile or visiting from out of town, Wintzell's Oyster House is an absolute must for experiencing a local landmark restaurant and fantastic oysters. Had their chargrilled oysters (Rockefeller style) and they were fantastic! View menu

Enjoyed a Sunday lunch on our way to a nearby Costco. Food was great. Service was at just the right speed. Oyster Sampler was an awesome way to try several types of oysters. The Carribean Margarita Marcus provided friendly and consistent service. Parking was easy. Men's room was cramped though. Regardless, I'll be back!

Being a staple of Mobile, Wintzell’s is a must for some quality seafood! Came for lunch today. Had grilled oysters for an appetizer and they didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend. I could have eaten another dozen myself. I had the shrimp salad with ranch and it hit the spot! The people I was with had the redfish over rice. They all enjoyed it as well. Come check them out!

Best Chargrilled Oysters! We always make a stop when in Mobile. Love the downtown location with parking across the street, the entertaining sayings on the walls, and of course the seafood. This time we had shrimp poorboy with lots of shrimp, fried catfish, cheesy grits, okra, BBQ shrimp. Other times we have had the redfish beinville, fried platters, shrimp and grits. I had the oyster beinville and they were ok nothing super special about them coming from a gulf famous oyster house so I was actually disappointed. The portions of crab and shrimp were actually small and kinda minced. The gumbo was very bad it tasted like it was store bought I was very disappointed it didn’t taste fresh at all. The atmosphere is cool very vintage and the staff is friendly. Won’t return though once was enough.

Was in town for a funeral and my fiancé accompanied me on the trip from Florida to Alabama. This was his first time visiting the state of Alabama and we dined at Wintzell's in downtown Mobile. Needless to say, he thoroughly enjoyed his meal. He said that the fried green tomatoes with the sauce were the BEST he EVER tasted! I had the fried fish and it was delicious also. Couldn't order my gumbo as I usually do when visiting home because I was so full. I will definitely make room for it my next visit and can't wait! The service was great! Our waitress I believe was Kayla.
