"First time experience was very poor. The atmosphere and design of the restaurant is very appealing. The drink menu is very diverse. Everything was impressive until I got my food. Analyzing the menu and drink menu I assumed it would be fresh homemade food. The “1/2” pound wings came straight from a Tyson frozen chicken bag. The ceviche was a stale tortilla chip with canned tuna on top. The Carne pizza looked like it was a Digorno pizza for double the price. One positive is my Sierra Nevada was ice cold and delightful. The one thing that 1856 did not make...."

I had a really nice salad there, good service and relaxed atmosphere. I plan on returning soon!

The food was delicious, and our server Becca was fantastic. A big thank you to Mom and Dad for covering the bill!

Everyone in our group enjoyed what we ordered. The atmosphere is lovely, and we were able to get in and out quickly before the KU basketball game!

we were there for a Spanish wine pairing, which was perfect for the weeping. it was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and so delicious. we try not to miss the 1856 wine dinner. they are among the most exotic and tasteful meals in lawrence! View menu

They provided great cooperation and flexibility to help us have a great Mother's Day celebration. Great food made to order. They had space for our group of 8. Only drawback was that it was loud when it was crowded but once other tables emptied, it was quiet and calm.

I thought the place would be too small for my taste, but they turned down the volume and the acoustics were excellent. The food was much better than I expected. However, the television above the band should have been turned off; there's no need to watch a rerun of Survivor while enjoying a meal.

We had a fantastic experience with excellent service and a unique menu. The ambiance was beautiful, and the sangria was one of the best I've ever tasted. The crème brûlée was delicious; however, it had just a hint too much alcohol that didn’t fully burn off. We’ll definitely be coming back for more! View menu

We stopped by during the soft opening and tried the ruby sandwich and the French dip, with fries as our side. The sandwiches were incredible and packed with more flavor than any others I've had in the city. Our son had the fries, which were also fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing the full menu; I think this place has the potential to be one of the best in town!

Ate here with a group before attending Mic Drop. Our server was not very good. The hostess sat us promptly then supplied enough reading material to both confuse us and make us wonder what we missed. When our food did arrive it came all at once so the folks that didn't finish their salads had to hurry because the table was small and crowded. The cocktails were imaginative and tasty. The food was ok. Maybe I'll try them again in a year or so if they are still there.
