"Unfortunately, the service was subpar. It took 20 minutes for our server to come and ask what we wanted to drink, and even after we placed our drink orders, he just walked away. He didn't check in to see if we wanted appetizers or if we needed help with the menu, which would have been particularly helpful since it was our first visit. It felt like he was annoyed whenever we asked questions. We had to flag him down just to get a refill on our breadsticks and to place our food order. It seemed he was consistently more attentive to his other tables. Additionally, I couldn't help but notice that we were the only Black patrons in the restaurant, and it felt like that might have impacted the level of service we received. Other guests around us were treated with kindness and warmth, while we were largely ignored. I was so upset about the experience that I lost my appetite and couldn't even finish my lasagna. Afterwards, I spoke with the manager, who claimed that she hadn’t received any complaints, but I dine out frequently and know what good service looks like. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share it. I will not be returning to this restaurant. The manager suggested I come again, make a reservation, and ask for her, but I’m not willing to give it another try. If I could rate it zero stars, I absolutely would!"

This was really amazing. The only thing I would have liked the noodles home made from scratch but the seafood was cooked to perfection very good. Kids really enjoyed the alfredo.

A definite hidden treasure. Excellence from start to finish. Wonderful staff and even better food. Great ambiance as well. If you love authentic Italian food this is definitely the place to go. It will now be my new weekly spot!!!

The meal and service were excellent as always. Even more significantly, I had specific requests to accommodate my wife with a wheel chair. They were very accommodating had everything set up before we arrived. Another great experience. And, did I mention, the food was superb!!!!!! View menu

The food is amazing, and the service is outstanding. This is the best Italian cuisine I've experienced in this area. I believe it has more of a family dining atmosphere. While the interior is well-maintained, the space between tables isn't ideal for a romantic dinner date. This wasn't a concern for my wife and me, but I think it's worth mentioning.

I was in town with a group for a conference, and all four of us loved this place! Though it's tucked into a strip mall, it has white tablecloth (literally) elegance without being too stuffy. The homemade pastas are terrific, and the garlic bread and salad to start are also both a notch above standard. Three in our party ordered glasses of wine, and it was a very generous pour. I'd highly recommend Al Fresco if you're looking for a nice Italian dinner in the Hampton Roads area.

We won't be coming back here. Veal tough as over cooked pork. Prosciutto so thick and tough ughhh. Canned or jarred red peppers and Ezra's Alfredo was margarine and butter no cream at at all. He ate it but he was hungry. Olive Garden would have been a better choice. First time for everything. Service suck. I am first generation American born mom from Northern Italy and my dad Sicily and yes I do not have family time with both sides at the same time. If your from Sicily or Italy you know why. As for kid-friendliness, I brought my 10-year-old grandson, and the staff was wonderful with him. Before we arrived, I talked to him about how to behave, and he was very polite. He especially enjoyed the elegant napkins and tablecloths and appreciated the quiet ambiance. I would recommend that unless children can be respectful, it’s best to leave them at home; this is a place where people come to celebrate special occasions, especially in the evenings. Most diners tend to make reservations for dinner.

Authentic flavors, slow service, dated interior. Locals love this place, as much for the food as well as the local owners. Hostess stand also serves as the place where to go orders are placed and picked up, and our table was right by this activity. There was a private party going on in side room which resulted in it taking fifty minutes for our order of spaghetti and meatballs to get to our table. Our waiter came by once to apologize for the long wait. Won't go out of our way to dine here again, but would recommend for the tasty local Italian place. Parking: Shopping center in central Newport News. Watch for people asking for money. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access for wheelchairs.
