"Heard great things about this place, upon arrival that is. When we were waiting for our table, not even 5 minutes after opening, the older brunette woman, assuming she's the chef/owner in the back was yelling and swearing at our sweet considerate waitress, because she was out of hash and ham. I've been in customer service for years and I am appalled by how the chef spoke to her! Family or not, there is a right and wrong way to speak to someone in a work setting and her way was extremely uncalled for and extremely unprofessional. I would have walked out of my job if anyone were to speak to me that way! It's clear she has major anger issues, according to her responses to these low reviews, and needs to take accountability for her anger issues and seek help or valium...valium helps. You're not Gordon Ramsey, calm down. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"cafe del rio in virginia city. never had a bad experience here, and it was a past, such a short review. it is Thursday, so the amount here is all local, but there is still a pleasant bush in the dining room. we have only kept for the case, and when we arrived, our table had already been waiting for us chips, salsa and water. our server has set us up and our order quickly picked up after a short chat. the atmosphere is quite unique as the restaurant is in a historical building in one of our more lively ghost towns, but my wife and my child both say that it is too cold every time we come, so I would recommend a beautiful pullover or jacket. the evangelium fried huh is just an explosion to get each time. my wife had enchiladas and she was thrilled with the fresh maulp sauce. my sohn had enchiladas from the children's menu, which is nothing to do at home about I am sure to write, but he is a happy camper, it was warm and fussy. it is easy to say that everything is homemade, and with love. the chef came to welcome us and to check, and everyone was just as pleasant as possible. it felt like a chic family lunch without drama."

"Stopped here while site seeing the town. Read the reviews and this seemed like the best place that was still opened. We were promptly seated in a back corner booth for 2. We were quickly greeted as we placed our drink orders. Drinks were brought out ice cold and meal orders taken, half turkey club with bowl house chilli and beef taco salad. Place started to fill up quickly as it was getting to be lunch time and warm outside. Our meal orders came out with in a reasonable amount of time as a tour group just showed up. Meals were of good quantity. Taco salad was good. The shell was said to be a little stale. The 1/2 Turkey club was piled high with sliced turkey, beacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted sourdough bread. The chilli was fresh home made. Lots of fresh bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, beans and beef. Not real spicy, just enough for flavor. I had a great dinning experience, enjoyed watching the people and atmosphere."

"I love this place! It was expedient to lunch here while we were in the opposite and we were not dissapointed. the eating was amazing and the staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive. can praise so high enough, had the tri-tip sandwich and the pulled swarm, with side and then loaded on ruck. high point of the day!"

"My husband and I decided to take an impromptu trip to Virginia City on a Monday. There were no crowds and the weather was great! We stopped at the Ponderosa to eat a late lunch with the intent of taking the mine tour. Unfortunately we arrived late in the afternoon so we did not have time to eat and do the mine tour (tours end at 5pm . I have been on the mine tour about four times and always find it fascinating! If you are tall (I am 5'8 you most likely will have to duck down to avoid hitting your head during the tour. The pathway into the mine is uneven so if you have difficulty walking on uneven surfaces, this might not be for you. Otherwise it is an interesting history lesson. Today, however, my stomach and dropping blood sugar won out over the mine tour! My husband had the Roast Beef sandwich with Swiss cheese (served with Au Jus and I had the Pastrami and Swiss on Rye. We shared an order of Onion Rings. The food was actually quite good for food from a little bar! My sandwich was toasted nicely, served warm, and the onion rings were golden brown, crispy, and served with a delicious dipping sauce that had a bit of a kick to it. My husband enjoyed his sandwich as well. Total was $32 with tip which I didn't feel was bad. Food is ordered at a window and normally you would pick up at another window, but the woman making the sandwiches brought our food to the table for us. She wasn't rude, but wasn't all that welcoming either. However, the food was good and she did bring it to us which was nice. Drinks are ordered at the bar. We both had sodas Diet Pepsi for me and Root Beer for my husband. The root beer was Shasta Root Beer from a can and served in a clear, plastic cup which was interesting, but served the purpose and was cheap at $2.00 per drink. They also have free ice water available in a dispenser. The bartender was very nice. All in all this is a nice spot to grab something to eat before taking the mine tour!"
