"Initially, we were informed that they don’t serve just coffee and desserts. We could only stay if we ordered appetizers and were okay with sitting outside in December. I ordered steamed mussels, four cappuccinos, and mentioned that I’d prefer dessert instead of an appetizer for myself, as I had just eaten dinner. The waiter seemed irritated by my request and replied, “It’s a restaurant, you know? We don’t serve just drinks and desserts.” After that, we barely saw him for the next hour, as if he wanted nothing to do with us. A couple seated next to us left, having been treated similarly. Let me clarify: even in the most pretentious places, like San Marco Square in Venice, you can still order just a cappuccino and a dessert for a price, if you’re willing to pay. There's really no need to treat customers this way, especially when it’s clear that you assume they won’t leave a generous tip. I usually spend quite a bit in cafes and restaurants and was eager to do so at Dante, having wanted to visit for so long. Instead, the experience left a bitter taste, though we did get a glimpse of the lively atmosphere inside. I suppose if you’re lucky, the experience might be different."
