"My family and I have been customers here since it was sugar shack. My kids love the donuts and fries. We used to come here all the time but lately whenever we come here they never have any donuts in stock. We tried again today and it will be our last time ever coming here again. We were having a bit of a rough day so decided to get some donuts and food. They were out of all donuts so we decided to just order from the menu. We stood in front of the two workers looking at the menu for a while and when I looked back down at them I saw them exchanging really rude glances that were very obviously about us. As I kept looking at them that’s when one of the workers finally said that the kitchen is actually going to be closed. It was only 2pm so we were confused but just said okay and left. When I looked at the hours later I saw that they’ve changed to 7am 2pm. Instead of exchanging rude glances they could have just let us know as soon as we walked in that they were closed/closing soon and were out of donuts. I always tell my kids to spread kindness to everybody they meet because you never know what anyone is going through and your kindness could be what changes their day and this was unfortunately a good example of just how peoples rudeness can make you feel worse when you’re already having a rough day. We won’t be returning or recommending."

My absolute favorite in winter for a warm coffee and a doughnut. Staff is very friendly. Their pastries are probably the best in Alexandria.

The eclairs here are delicious! The donuts I tried with my friends were also very good. I highly recommend this place, whether you are vegan or not.

Delicious pastries and perfectly made coffee drinks! I honestly had no idea it was vegan until I started writing this review. I had no idea, pastries were great. Friendly counter service. View menu

Pros: - Great to have vegan options in the area - Good selection of baked goods, drinks, and snacks - Dogs allowed - Participates in "Too Good To Go" to reduce waste - Cool decor Cons: - No free parking - A bit expensive - Donut holes were a little dry and lacked apple pieces that are preferred

coffee was watery and overly sweet. (I have iced lavender latte and my friend got the cold brew) tofu burrito was good, a small bland. asked for hot sauce that was mad and made it worse. pretzel donut tasted old, stale and overpriced for what it was worth. good vibes, overpriced eating with half quality. probably not coming back.

I have been a customer of theirs ever since it was named a Sugar Shack, they have the best donuts! What makes me upset is that they are always out of stock.. like no matter what time of the day.. the last few times we went they were out of staple donuts such as glazed, cinnamon, sprinkled, etc.. I truly don’t get it! We drove all the way from DC just for donuts.. I should have known better! View menu

I was thrilled to discover a vegan restaurant in the historic district, and Elizabeth's Counter did not disappoint! Despite visiting my hometown periodically over the past 15 years and seeing many new restaurants, I never came across vegan options until now. During my recent visit, I tried their donuts, apple fritter, breakfast burrito, quiche, and coffee. While most vegan donuts I've tried have been mediocre, these exceeded my expectations and were delicious. I can't wait to come back next time I'm in town!

This is one of my favorite vegan breakfast spots in the area! The tofu scramble breakfast burrito is super flavorful and the tortilla they use isn't too thick. Like any burrito, you run the risk of it falling apart but I love when it does because that's just a sign they stuffed that jawn to the max. The salsa that comes on the side is mild so I just add in my own hot sauce. If you're in the area, definitely use the Too Good To Go app to get some end of the day, discounted doughnuts! Too Good To Go is a way to receive unsold restaurant food at a discounted price as a way to combat food waste and encourage everyone to be more sustainable. I got a box of half dozen doughnuts for about $5!

"This place really helped me adjust. I later learned that people gravitate towards certain bars, and I found my favorites, especially those with live music like Birchmere, Black Cat, 9:30 Club, Lincoln, Capital One Arena, and even the now-closed O'Shaughnessy's and Rock & Roll Hotel. One of my most memorable experiences was running into Rory Sheridan on one of my first visits. He was launching his DC music campaign back then and was part of Loud Boyz. We chatted a few times, and I even caught up with some old classmates. Another highlight was when I heard about a “reunion” night before Thanksgiving, and I decided to crash it. There were moments where people could be unkind or I felt out of place, but I was given some guidance on where I would fit in better, without the unnecessary drama. Being in Old Town, I was familiar with nearby schools like West Potomac, Mount Vernon, and Bishop Ireton. During my visits, I would often take an Alexandria cab or use Metro Access, being discreet about my disability since I felt embarrassed at times. Being a regular meant navigating the tourist scene, and there were people who seemed territorial about the place, but I ended up doing quite well when I sold my house. Good times continued with events like watching RG3 play for the Redskins or meetups organized by JT. I enjoyed New Year’s celebrations and weekend outings. I also frequented other establishments like Flying Fish before it closed, and O'Shaughnessy's before I decided to stop drinking. This is a sports bar located near a bicycle shop, close to the Ben & Jerry's I used to work at, along with many other walkable bars for bar hopping, like Union Street Pub and Fish Market. It can be a great place to have fun, but with the good comes some downsides. Overall, I felt well-hosted and respected here, despite some things I was not initially aware of or didn’t want to uncover."

"My friends and I went to Cheesetique for restaurant week. We sat outside. The space was great, the weather was great. Upon arrival, it took a server about 15 minutes to come to our table, and that was only after a friend went inside to ask for someone to service us. The server who had served our friends, who had arrived 10 minutes prior, was bartending. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time. The drinks came out relatively soon after. The food took a normal amount of time to come out of the kitchen. We got the watermelon, quinoa salad and truffle balls as apps. There was no dressing with the salad, just spinach leaves, watermelon, and quinoa. It was very basic. The truffle balls, although good, were balls of cheese. They gave huge cheese balls but only 3 tiny pieces of bread. We ordered a Mac and cheese for the table which was not salted very well at all. For the main course, we ordered gnocchi, pot pie, and braised beef. The beef and mashed potatoes were the best. The pot poe and gnocchi were not nearly salted enough. All the food came out 'warm ' at best. Dessert was fine. Overall, not at all worth the amount we paid for restaurant week. We were left disappointed. The service was slow. I do understand they might have been short staffed, but even waitresses who were not our servers looked as us, after being there for 15 min and walked past. We asked someone to get us water, which was never brought to us, so overall, disappointed in our dining experience, considering how much we paid."
