"Excellent food and great additions to menu. On the other hand, service was ABYSSYMAL: 1. Lost reservation 2. Server came to take order and they had yet to supply menus 3. Continually attempted to rush us through meal, e.g., asking for entree orders before we had completed appetizers 4. Unsolicited, brought me a birthday cake, which was both embarrassing and potentially dangerous since I have diabetes I could continue this list all evening; however, I will simply never again visit The Grotto, after having been a patron for over 30 years."

I visited this restaurant on my birthday for dinner. We had made a reservation at the Westheimer location, and since it was a Wednesday, the place wasn’t very crowded. View menu

We ordered the lobster bisque, and while the flavor was enjoyable, we had to request that it be heated because it was served lukewarm. It was clear that it had been microwaved.

"Excuse me! My group has been visiting this restaurant every Tuesday night for many years, primarily because it's a favorite of one of the members. However, I will be looking for a different place from now on..."

We ate from the set menu during Houston’s Restaurant Month and thoroughly enjoyed the salmon main course. The restaurant was busy but this did not impact on service and we recommend this venue if you like Italian food. View menu

The service was good, but the quality of the food wasn't up to par. Our entrees arrived quickly, within about 10 minutes, but my ravioli was still slightly cold despite being served on a hot plate. This restaurant is similar to Olive Garden, just a bit pricier.

Nice place. We had a 60th birthday party for 20 of us. Got their private room. The food and service were good. The room was tight for 20 people. Came out to $100 per person including wine and open bar for a three course meal. Haven't been here in a while. Can't say that for the price and quality that I have a burning desire to come back anytime soon.. lots of great restaurants in houston for half the price.

"Food good. Location good. Service good. BUT, the hidden charges REALLY ruined an otherwise nice experience. Example: HH menu lists Martinis as a $3 upcharge to the $7 base charge. Fair enough. Bombay is a listed alcohol; requested. When the bill was returned I was charged for a Bombay Sapphire which is not on the HH list. Charge? $11 $3. I asked for Bombay, not Bombay Sapphire. Waiter: Oh, let me look into that. AND, by the way Blue Cheese olives? Extra $1. REALLY? I 've NEVER paid extra for BC olives ANYWHERE. AND the confusing menus that a dish as including an extra sauce, [and I don 't recall the exact language but it made it seem that an additional items could be selected as well. Oops, there goes an extra $10.95. AND, the waiter recommending a twice-baked potato. Bah, boom, another $5.95. [which in fairness is disclosed on the menu in a different location, but waiter made it sound as if it was a no-charge option on the surf and turf. AND the split plate charge which I don 't think was disclosed on the menu. Ding, ding, extra $3.00. Was this a waiter, who was overly up-selling or restaurant deception? Don 't know. As I said, the food WAS good. AND, the ambience [at least in the bar area, stay away of the hotel-ballroom-like main dining area was nice. Just beware the nickel and dime charges that the waiter won 't be disclosing to you."
