"Worst service ever! As we walked to the podium to check in, the hostess took a phone call and we were forced to stand there for several minutes (long enough for four people to try to get by us, because their hosting stand is placed in the worst possible location). Once the phone call was over, we gave our name and the hostess looked at her book for some time, highlighting various things before finally showing us to the table. It was approximately 20 minutes before a waitress came and took our drink order. She took our dinner order and we ordered an appetizer of bread service, because they charge for that, which we never received. I had to eat some snacks from my purse because I was starving, and we considered leaving, but our food finally came as we were standing up to leave, about 30-35 minutes after ordering. Our food was only OK, not disgusting, but not particularly noteworthy, certainly not worth the exorbitant prices. We were provided butter knives to cut our meat! We wolfed down our food as we were starving by this time, and our waitress never returned. My husband went to the bathroom and ran into the waitress and asked for our check. She said she would be right there, but, par for the course, never returned, so we went to the front and were told that she had to leave because of a family emergency. We were to believe that in the time it took for my husband to use the bathroom, about 2 minutes, she received the news that she had a family emergency, decided she had to leave precipitously, communicated with the other staff the remaining needs for her tables, and left. My husband forgot to check if we were charged for the bread service because we were in such a hurry to leave, but I am sure that the charge was tacked on. I would not be surprised if there was also a charge for the water. Just a dismal experience, would not recommend unless you really enjoy terrible service and mediocre food. If that 's your jam, this place is for you!"

"Portia 's Cafe Feb 14, 2023)Portiia 's Cafe was not a planned visit while visiting Kansas City. It was my last day in Kansas City, and I was planning to hit the American Jazz Museum before flying back to Seattle late afternoon. As the airbnb area where I was staying did not have any fast food around, I had to decide on a breakfast place before the American Jazz Museum opened at 10 a.m. As I was traveling cheaply using public transportation, the 2 closest places to the Jazz Museum that 's easily accessible and within walking distance to the museum were either Portia 's Cafe or McDonald 's. Bring a fan of diners, Portia 's it was. It was drizzling that morning, and Portia 's was a slight walk from the bus stop. Dragging my wet luggage into the Cafe, I was cheerfully greeted at the entrance and took my seat not too far from it. The waitress recommended some of the food and I sat down to observe life in the cafe. The place is old but very comfortable. A different area I sat near the counter in a booth) had many pictures and posters on the walls, and provided history of the restaurant, and more. The food came a solid omelet with melted cheese and meats, a nice portion of hash browns, a fresh squeezed glass of orange juice and a cup of eye opening coffee. It was on the greasy side, but that was exactly what I wanted as I intended to skip lunch before the late afternoon flight. The restaurant environment was lively, with many long term customers coming and going exchanging Valentine 's Day greetings. Feels like Cheers in the day time You wanna go where everybody knows your name. After finishing my meal, I visited the other area of the restaurant to look at the pictures and posters. The younger waitress there told me stories of some of the pictures. I actually met Portia as well, the proprietor of the restaurant. So cool! Please have fun by visiting the place and enjoy some home style cooking. Shout out to the young waitress there who showed me around the photos and posters. I promised I shall write a glowing review, and here it is.Happy Eating !!!"
