"The calamari appetizer was decent, and the bread was good, though I prefer it to be pre-sliced, as I subscribe to the "you touch it, you eat it" rule. I ordered a cup of soup, but I can't even recall what it was—perhaps the distractions at the kids' table contributed to its forgetfulness. Feeling a bit stuffed from the Thanksgiving feasting, I opted for a Caprese salad. It was presented nicely, with layers of tomato and mozzarella arranged in a fan shape. Unfortunately, the pesto-like dressing was too sweet for my liking. It was filling enough, and I was relieved that I hadn’t ordered anything else. Looking around at the kids' table, the pizza didn't look particularly appetizing, and the mac and cheese appeared to be swimming in cheese. One polite child even hesitated to let me send it back for a replacement, a credit to their well-mannered upbringing. We didn't order dessert, as we brought our own cakes to celebrate. I have to commend the wait staff, who did an excellent job managing a large group of over 25 people spread across two long tables. They were also very helpful with setting up and serving the cakes. I feel a bit bad writing this review since I was a guest at a family celebration that they generously paid for. I'm thankful for the chance to try this place, but I likely won't return on my own. For similar food quality, I'd choose Olive Garden any day."

"I found this place on a Google search for Mexican restaurant with vegetarian options. The place did not disappoint me. It is Japanese and Mexican fusion cuisine done well. The have a great selection of Margaritas, definitely all should try their Margarita Flight. I had there habanero infused inferno and it was pretty good. The dirty fries are a good starter choice. The atmosphere and vibe of this place is really cool and service excellent. Planning to visit again. Five star fit the food, vibes, service and easy parking."

"I recently visited Izakaya Takasei and had a mixed experience.My boyfriend and I ordered the takoyaki, chicken cutlet and egg rice bowl, several yakitori, takowasabi (raw octopus with wasabi), and the Kobe beef roll. While the takoyaki and yakitori were delicious, the chicken cutlet and egg rice bowl was really bland. The Kobe beef roll was a bit odd with the combination of garlic butter and tataki sauce. Unfortunately, there were also a few items on the menu that were no longer available, which was a bit disappointing. It would be good for the restaurant to update their menu to avoid any confusion or disappointments.While the food at Izakaya Takasei comes out quickly, this can also be a double-edged sword. During my visit, my boyfriend and I received several dishes at once, which meant that a lot of our food was sitting out and getting cold while we were eating the others. It would be great if the kitchen could pace the dishes better to ensure that everything is served at the optimal temperature.The service was a bit lackluster as well. The only time we were able to ask for condiments, utensils, and more water was when the employees brought our food out. No one checked on us throughout our meal, and it would have been nice to have a more attentive staff.On the plus side, the restaurant has nice Japanese decor and is quite spacious. It's conveniently located in downtown Brea, and parking was a breeze in the nearby parking structure. The restaurant features a lovely ambiance with a modern vibe. The menu offered a wide range of options, which was impressive. Our waiter, Pedro, was fantastic; he took the time to answer all our menu inquiries and made some excellent recommendations.
