"Was excited to visit this location for the first time. The cashier (Kristina was nice, patient and helpful. The restaurant was also nice and clean. The kitchen staff were loud and very chatty with one another (about the customers waiting inside the kitchen and walked in and out getting drinks and going to the restroom while there were several tickets up and customers waiting and picking up orders. I heard one man from the kitchen ask why are they standing there? and the guy expediting the orders answered they are waiting on food . The expeditior had several customers orders sitting in the corner instead of passing them out. Myself and others had to walk up to the counter to ask for orders that were ready but being stored in the corner to get cold. I waited for 25 minutes . The manager that was present never came over to assist or try to speed along the process. Looking into the kitchen, several of the staff were looking out into the lobby commenting on pretty women coming in and out instead of preparing orders. I believe this is the culture at this location, so I would try a different location for better and faster service. Food was good but prepared rather sloppy. Kristina our cashier was the only good thing about our visit."

The half sandwich I received was a sad thing. Very disappointed especially after being in the hospital all day with a I’ll family member. I would have done better getting a sandwich from the hospital cafeteria.

Bruh didn’t even want to take my order fr then he hung up in my face talking about “we’re busy right now” I rather for him to just let the phone ring like all the other restaurants do for that. Im sick with the flu, so I was sending someone to get my food. That’s why I called and yes I said “Bruh” cause he my kind and im tryna keep it cute for this review cause he pmo! View menu

Relative in the hospital but will not be getting a room tonight and so i decided to eat dinner with sibling before I left. However at 7:30 they decided to close the lobby so you couldn't dine in. Their reason for doing so is they like to close off the lobby closer to closing time. Which is understandable, but they were not closing for another 2 1/2 hours. So we had to find somewhere to sit and eat.

I had a frustrating experience when I tried to place an order. The person on the phone didn’t seem interested in taking my order and even hung up on me, saying they were too busy. Honestly, I would have preferred if they had just let the phone ring like other restaurants do. I'm currently sick with the flu and was hoping to send someone to pick up my food, which is why I called. I used the term "Bruh" because we share a similar background, and I wanted to keep this review light-hearted despite the disappointment!

I've usually had great experiences at McAlister's, but today was different. The sandwich on the left, which came from the Lakeshore location, was missing bacon, and I specifically requested white bread instead of wheat. The sandwich on the right was from the Downtown location and was supposed to be the Club, but what I got was just two pieces of bread filled mostly with ham. I had to ask for my bacon and pickles, and there were no tomatoes at all. What's going on? I think I'll skip going there on weekends from now on and stick to visiting during the week! View menu

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. When I visited, the floor was covered in food and salad, and no one seemed to make any effort to clean it up. The line was incredibly long, and customers were being largely ignored. When I finally reached the front to pick up my order, the employee overlooked me to assist a friend behind me, falsely claiming that I had skipped ahead in line. To make matters worse, my order wasn't even ready despite having placed it 40 minutes earlier. When I brought up these issues, my concerns were completely disregarded, and I never received any follow-up. Overall, it’s not worth your time to order from here.

I went to this location three days in a row due to my niece being in Children's hospital. The first day my order was incorrect I ordered the black Angus potato but was given something different. The manager did refund my order the next day. I hadn't eaten at McAlister's in years so my expectations were set high from past. Every meal was at best was average. The potato the first day was ok. The potato the 2nd day was burned at the bottom. The pecanberry salad was thrown together the pieces of chicken appeared to be removed from a sandwich because cheese was stuck to it. The strawberry lemonade was diabetic sweet. The chili and broccoli cheese soup was great! I know a lot of restaurants are do...

"If there is a restaurant that is a Birmingham institution among the wealthier crowd, there is literally only one name that locals would bring up, and it is undoubtedly Highlands. Not that there aren't other nice restaurants, but this spot has proven itself over time and is ran by a chef that most Alabamians are quite proud of. Opened in 1982, Highland's is a place that put Birmingham on the map in a positive way at a time when the post industrial iron period was about to wind down and transform the city. Frank formalized his cooking techniques by working in kitchens of San Francisco and France, creating a medley of American Southern and French cuisine that is difficult to find elsewhere. It was not a time when it was common to see a chef from Alabama going to study cooking in Europe, thus the story was already an anomaly. Frank Stitt was trying to pioneer sustainable agriculture and farming well before anybody in Alabama knew what in the world that actually meant or for that matter, cared. One of the signature items is the baked grits that has been around since the restaurant opened. It's a tasty grits preparation and without a doubt, something to try. The pheasant was spectacular, fairly lean and with a crispy delicious skin, served with grits and green beans. Pastries here are created by Dolester Miles, who has been in the job for well over 30 years. The opera cake is absolutely spectacular, gentle and complexly layered. The basque cake is peachy and moist, with a crispy delicious exterior and Chantilly cream. Not only are these likely the best desserts to discover in Alabama, but may be some of the best to be found in America. The attentiveness got derail was clearly evident. As far as service, generally fine, but not particularly attentive. The waitress did not seem in much of a mood to welcome people to the establishment. Many items on the menu were running out by 8:30pm on a Saturday night. Nobody was particularly impressed with the flounder that got substituted for the grouper. And then there are other questions, why would you run out of grits? They know they are always filled to capacity and ingredients to make grits are not immediately perishable. Highland's has by this point in Birmingham's history become a classic. It's evident that most people here have been around for decades working at their jobs and serving the rich crowds of Mountain Brook. It's a place of great food and shows many combinations of ingredients that are nearly impossible to find elsewhere, let alone be executed this well."
