"We had just finished stroller hiking all day on the Sojourn Truth Park, New Paltz, Trailhead section of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and searched Trip Advisor for a place for dinner. We picked P&G due to high ratings and their menu but were afraid it may be an all college crowd as we had two children with us, one needing a high chair. We arrived on a Friday and it was busy but we peeked in and could see at the entrance a stack of clean high chairs and inside we could see every age group represented. The wait staff are really high energy and we were greeted and seated instantly with a high chair at a huge booth. Kids menus (with modern characters like Olaf and kids crayons were placed as we sat and drinks were brought out immediately. Great music and college atmosphere. The specials and regular menu had such great items it was hard to choose. We ordered kids meals and spinach and artichoke dip appetizer first. A bit of a wait coming out but when it did the dip was huge (see pic) and was awesome and the kids loved their kids meals: mac and cheese (pic) and grilled cheese. We loved the kids meal prices! We ordered French onion soups and Mack Truck burger melts. French onion soup in cheese covered croc was amazing and soup wasn’t scalding hot like so many restaurants serve. Plating for our burgers was perfect and the onion rings were awesome with an amazing dipping sauce and sweet potato fries done perfectly. Meat temperature done “medium” was also spot on. We had one really great waitress who checked on us regularly but there were two other waitresses working nearby and they all covered for each other so the second we looked up needing anything, another drink or napkin, the others saw and brought it immediately. Our 1 year old daughter randomly throws her toys and whips crayons off her high chair which is embarrassing and each time she did one of the three picked the items up before we could. P&G is almost an hour from our house but was so great and the business district so nice we are already planning on heading back. Highly recommend!!"

Good draft selection of local breweries. The food was good, it was a bit pricey but it was fresh and hot. I’ll be going back a few times this summer.

Food was good, although the fish in the fish chips were more like fish sticks. Guess I just expect a nice crunchy slab of cod, not little fingers of fish. Everyone else enjoyed their meal so that saves the score. Just won't have the fish next time...

We came across this New Paltz institution on the main street looking for sandwich take out to bring to our walk in Minnewaska state park. Lots of options on the sandwich section alone. The portion is filling and made even more with a side included. Although the onion rings were kinda over fried, overall it doesnt disappoint. View menu

The service at this restaurant was outstanding and the food was excellent. I will definitely return with my family. Our waitress was exceptional, we haven't experienced such great and prompt service (or food) in a long time. Due to our busy schedules and owning our own business, we eat out often....we will definitely be regulars here!

This restaurant is fantastic and the food is delicious. The bread served as an appetizer is amazing. Not suitable for those who are gluten-free. Every aspect of the meal, including the sauces, was perfect. The restaurant has a great bar and a wonderful atmosphere. The service was exceptional. The only downside was the parking situation, which was a bit tricky, but we managed to find a solution.

"Main Street Bistro is the place to go for breakfast in New Paltz and apparently everyone thinks so, because there is always a long wait to be seated. And if you have a party of six, as we did yesterday, you can expect to wait outside for a good 45-50 minutes! It's well worth the wait, though. The food is great, and the coffee is excellent strong and full-bodied, the way a good cup of coffee should be (soy milk is available). The menu is varied, creative, and extremely vegetarian friendly; they even offer veggie bacon and sausage. Vegan selections are very limited, but there are a few on the menu... and I'd be willing to bet that they would substitute tofu scramble for eggs in many of their dishes, if asked nicely. This was my second visit to Main Street Bistro. On my first visit, I had a Frittata Skillet from their specials board; if memory serves me, it was two eggs scrambled with some sort of veggies, served in a little skillet on a bed of home fries, and topped with melted cheddar and jack cheeses. It was a year ago, so the specifics are hazy but I do remember enjoying it thoroughly. Yesterday I decided on the Veggie Benedict two poached eggs, sautéed spinach and tomatoes, and cheddar cheese, sitting atop a toasted English muffin, and topped with hollandaise. The eggs were perfectly poached, with the yolks just barely runny, and the accompanying home fries were nice and crispy. My only complaint about the dish is that the English muffin could have been toastier; other than that, it was superb. The two other vegetarians in our party each ordered the Breakfast Club Sandwich a hulking triple-decker thing on 12-grain bread, which consists of scrambled eggs, pesto, sprouts, red onion, tomato, avocado, and muenster cheese, also served with home fries. Neither of their sandwiches were served with the avocado on it, though, which was hugely disappointing. Still tasty, but when you're looking forward to avocado and the avocado isn't there... sadness ensues. (In defense of the Bistro, neither party bothered to complain about the missing avocado, so the restaurant wasn't given the opportunity to make good on it Our omnivorous friends enjoyed their meals, as well; this is a great place to go when you're with a mixed crowd All in all, this place serves a tasty, memorable breakfast. When I next return to New Paltz, I will definitely wait outside for as long as it takes to eat here again."

"That's one place I will never go back to. Yesterday, I invited my wife and two of her friends for dinner. We arrived around 5:30 PM. At that time there were only two people ahead of me in line. We ordered the food and I paid. During the checkout process I was asked to leave a tip. Since I usually try to be generous, I left 18%, even though I was clear that it was self service we order, pick up our food and utensils, carry it out and when we are done, we bus our own table. One of the basics of food service is being ready for the meal servings, to be prepared for the rush. My guests wanted lemonade without sugar. No luck. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water instead. After I paid, I asked for 4 glasses. The counter clerk handed me one and said the others were coming. What? The dinner service was about to get rolling and they had no glasses? I waited and 6 minutes later I go the second glass. Seven minutes after that the last two glasses were finally cleaned. While my guest were chatting, I was waiting for glasses to drink out of for 13 minutes. Then we waited for our name to be called and the food came after another 15 minutes or so. Most dishes were solidly good. My steak sandwich tasted good but the meat was very well done, which was not my favorite. After we finished our meal, my guests were ready for coffee and deserts. We ventured back inside and picked 3 little cakes from the refrigerated section. Before I could count to three, the place had filled up with dinner customers. The line stretched to the entrance door with at least 10 people in line. There we were with the cakes in line. I showed the cakes to the check out clerk and told her we would take it out and I would get in line. My guests went out and I got in the back of the line. Each transaction took at least 3 5 minutes, with the clerk having to answer questions and take payment. At least 25 30 minutes passed before it was my turn. I ordered 3 cups of coffee and told the clerk that I had three cakes. Two for $5.25 and one for $7.25. She told me that I needed the names of the cakes. I had to go back out and get the names of each cake. When I came back in, the person behind me was getting served. I waited until he was done and paid. She gave me three cups for the coffee self help table. There were three coffee urns. Both of the regular coffee urns were completely empty. Yes, nobody filled the coffee before the evening rush. I told the counter clerk and she told me it would take some time. I waited 5 minutes and saw nobody work on it. I showed my face again, saying nothing but just making sure that they saw me. I am really busy right now, she said. It was true. I waited another 5 minutes. Finally she called for one of the kitchen staff to make the coffee. I waited another 10 minutes. By the time all was aid and done, I barely had any time with my guests. Overall, I spent an hour waiting, not counting the time it took for the food to come out. My evening was ruined. The reason I invited people out was to have the company, to converse and have fellowship. Instead I waited and for all that I paid 18% tip. This restaurant has its pluses. They are dog friendly, the food can be very good on a good day. But the operation is in serious need to build in efficiencies and to be ready for their services. What I experienced is due to poor management. Plain and simple."
