"The atmosphere inside the bakery is quite small. As soon as you enter, there's a glass display showcasing all the different baked goods available. Unfortunately, there isn't an area to eat inside—your options are limited to a bench or table right outside the bakery, or you can take your treats to go. I visited around 3 PM on a Thursday and found no line to wait in. There was one person ahead of me, but the ordering and payment process was quick, especially if you already know what you want. I asked the staff for some recommendations, and she suggested the Midnight Bananenbrot and some of their cookies. Even though there was only one person working at the time, she was very friendly and I appreciated her help! I highly recommend trying their Roasted Carrot Cake! The Midnight Bananenbrot is also perfect for chocolate lovers. Now, onto my thoughts about the baked goods: **Oreo:** I had heard many great things about their homemade Oreos, but I was somewhat disappointed. While the cookie tasted similar to a standard Oreo, the texture was a bit off for me. The cookie had a strong cocoa flavor and a buttery taste. The thin layer of cream between the two cocoa cookies was quite sweet, with a subtle vanilla aroma. I was surprised by how crumbly the cookie was; it felt a bit sticky while eating it and lacked the typical crispiness of an Oreo. For $2, although the cookie was small, the price seemed fair. I wouldn’t buy it again, but I didn’t regret trying it either. (3.5/5) **Midnight Bananenbrot:** As a big fan of banana bread, I was really excited to try this! The bread was incredibly moist and had the perfect texture for banana bread. The best part was the taste of bittersweet chocolate and dark cocoa—it was rich and decadent! My only complaint is that the banana flavor could have been more pronounced, but I assume it contributed some sweetness and moisture to the bread. It tasted more like a dense chocolate bread than banana bread, so I would have rated it a 5/5 if the banana flavor had been stronger. A slice costs $5, which isn’t too bad considering how big it was. I can definitely see myself getting it again when I'm in the mood for something chocolatey. (4.5/5) **Roasted Carrot Cake:** As someone who loves carrot cake, I was thrilled with this one! It had the traditional cinnamon and spice flavors typical of carrot cake, plus it tasted even richer and slightly nutty thanks to the brown butter. The cake itself didn’t have a distinct carrot flavor, but it was very moist overall. The inside was soft and moist, while the edges were a little dry, resembling a crust. The cream cheese frosting paired perfectly with the cake, though I felt the frosting made it a bit too sweet, so the cake itself was my favorite part. This piece also costs $5, and the size was definitely worth it. I can see myself getting this again in the future! (4.5/5)"

I wish I could put this bakery in my pocket and take it back home to DC. I love everything about it. Try anything on the menu that you think sounds amazing because it most likely is.

Very cute bakery with unique flavors. We tried the everything bagel, miso peanut butter, and cardamom doodle cookies. The cookies are all very thin with the perfect crispy on the edges, chewy in the middle texture. The everything bagel cookie was a favorite, who knew garlic and cookies go together!

It's difficult for me to rate my experience this time. I had cookies, a slice of loaf, and a slice of cake. Overall, everything was good, but I was really surprised by how much oil was absorbed by the paper wraps. It ended up getting all over the bag, which was quite off-putting. I sincerely hope they use quality oil; otherwise, it would be a bit concerning to eat a lot of it. On a positive note, I absolutely loved the weekend cake I tried this time. That was the main reason I chose to visit! View menu

This might be my favorite cookie spot in the city! The flavors are fantastic, with a few highlights: the cardamoodle is incredible, the peanut butter miso is surprisingly underrated, and my all-time favorite is the cannibal cookie. They have the ideal chewy texture that I love. If you prefer thin and crispy cookies, you might want to head to the supermarket for what Tate calls a cookie. But if you’re after something special, definitely check out Red Gate. They also offer cakes, buns, and dessert loaves, but I can never resist their cookies!

* Pumpkin Olive Oil Loaf A comforting pastry gathering all the fall flavors and scents into cake form. After hearing glowing reviews about Red Gate's fall special loaves, I decided to swing by and grab a slice on the last day of October. So glad that I didn’t sleep on this delectable fall treat. The loaf was packed with pumpkin and fall spice flavors, topped with luscious spiced cider frosting and toasted seeds. Olive oil made the cake extra moist, absolutely delightful. The deeply browned top was addictively delicious. If you are in search for an extremely pumpkiny pastry, Red Gate’s pumpkin loaf won’t let you down.

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
