"Ray Azteca has always been one of my favorite places to go with friends and enjoy margaritas and eat great Mexican food. However, the experience I had tonight totally skewed my interpretation of this restaurant. The food was great, but the service was quite unpleasant. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:30 and they close at 10 and right off the bat the server was very rude. We ordered drinks then when he came back I asked if we could order food. He looked at me, shrugged with attitude and said “yeah”. We proceeded to order food. Then, at this point it was around 9:15 and he came back and we asked if we could put in more drinks. He aggressively pulls out his phone to show us how he is checking the time, looks at us and says “yes”. As a server myself I can say this was definitely very rude and I could never imagine doing this to a customer. Overall, the food was great but they really need to work on service because me and my friends were very unhappy with the way we were treated tonight."

I ordered the shrimp tacos, and they were incredible! This is the first Mexican restaurant I've found since moving from Philadelphia that I genuinely enjoy! View menu

Took my friend Jim to Rey Azteca Mexican Restaurant for lunch today, August 30th, 2023. The food, service and pricing was excellent. Thanks to everyone involved for a nice lunch and great atmosphere. Paul S.

Great dinner, quick service, and very friendly. Friday night at 6:30 and they apologized that there was a 25 minute wait. We went to the bar and grabbed margaritas while we waited for a table. Before we knew it, we were sitting and ordering. View menu

Rey Azteca is a true gem in Newtown Square! Their shrimp tacos are absolutely incredible! Everything I've tried there has been fantastic, making it a family favorite. I highly recommend it to all my friends and family. The Mexican food is very authentic and the most flavorful I've come across in the area.

Placed a take out order via phone Tuesday night. Spoke to a young girl who gave me my total and told me ten minutes. Went to pick it up and my order was never out through the system. They had no idea what I was talking about like I had two heads. I showed them the number I called which was Newtown square because they suggested I may have called the wrong store. Would not make my order when I got there and advised me they are closing in ten minutes when I was there 8:50 pm. Never again. Incompetent staff.

"For our appetizer, we chose the Pork Bun, followed by the Pork Katsu Curry Don and Chicken Katsu Curry Don for our main dishes. We also ordered a two-roll combo from the lunch menu (California roll and Spicy Salmon roll), but unfortunately, we didn’t receive the miso soup or salad that was supposed to come with it, as stated in the menu. We would have inquired about the soup, but being first-time visitors, we forgot it was included, and the waitress did not mention it. The lunch special rolls weren't anything memorable. I can’t recall whether there were 6 or 8 pieces per roll, but they did serve as a decent snack while we awaited our main courses. However, I think I would skip the sushi next time. The Pork Bun appetizer consists of two buns on one plate. While I didn’t take a photo, it looked as you would expect: pork, some greens, and a drizzle of sauce inside a soft white bun. I found the meat to be somewhat dry. Unless you have a strong craving for Pork Buns and no other options in mind, I’d suggest passing on them as an appetizer. The Katsu Curry Don comes with a single spice level and is very filling. You can choose between chicken or pork, and since there were two of us, we ordered one of each. The meat is smothered in curry sauce and accompanied by vegetables and potatoes. Overall, I enjoyed the Pork Katsu Curry Don; it really satisfied my craving for curry rice. Regarding service, despite being seated quickly, we experienced quite a wait for our order to be taken, for our food to arrive, and then to receive the check. Our table was situated close to the entrance and within view of the waitstaff and kitchen staff. To be fair, 3-4 other groups came in by the time our food was served, and it seemed there was only one waitress managing the floor. Overall, I found this to be a nice casual spot for Japanese cuisine. We enjoyed our main courses and were not deterred by the service. I would recommend trying this place for their entrees. If I were to return, I think I'd skip the appetizers and rolls and focus solely on the main dishes. As for parking, there is a lot with plenty of available spaces."

"So the place that used to be here had also been a favourite place, so I was sad to see it go, but I had to give this place a try. I mean, I can never turn down sushi. We made a reservation for my birthday and I'm glad we did, it was packed. It did empty out though near the end. I ordered two things of sushi, some shumai, and dumplings. My dad ordered the wonton for two and I forget what else and my mum ordered a green bean dish and a dish that has chicken, shrimp, beef and vegetables in it. My only issue was my parents got their main courses and I had to wait maybe five more minutes for my sushi. But I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it was busy and I ordered two specialty rolls. My parents made a bigger deal out of it than I did because I know making and rolling sushi takes time. Plus it was busy. For dessert my mum and I ordered the chocolate mousse and my dad ordered the Creme Brule. The chocolate dusting of a fork on the dish was weird, but I found it funny and unique. The desserts were heaven. The wait staff was super nice and the owner is really cool. He came and chatted with us for ten or so minutes. We came back the next week and all our appetizers came out at the same time and all our entrees, including my three orders of sushi, came out at the same time. We went around 5pm for the second dinner and it hadn't gotten packed yet. My only complaint, I got the tea with bubbles and the bubbles were horrible. The tea was also super strong so I had to mix in more water to weaken it. But I also don't like super sweet and strong teas, so the tea might be fine for someone else, but for me it tasted bad."
