"We visited this restaurant after reading some great reviews, but unfortunately, we were let down. A good breakfast place can often be judged by its coffee, and here the coffee was weak and lacked flavor. The food itself was bland; we actually needed a spoon for the dry pancakes, which crumbled at the slightest touch, and some parts were even doughy. The Swiss omelet didn’t contain any Swiss cheese but rather a different kind, which spoiled the dish entirely. Additionally, none of the restrooms had changing tables, making it inconvenient for families with babies. The cramped seating arrangement also made us feel uncomfortable. The biscuits and overall cost were decent, and the service was satisfactory, which is why we are giving it 2 stars. Unfortunately, we tried it once and won’t be returning."

Wonderful breakfast! I've been visiting Bill Smith's for nineteen years, and it's hands down the best breakfast spot in McKinney!

Chicken Fried Steak was ok at best. Biscuits and Gravy was good but nothing special. Fast Service. Decent Prices. Overall a decent place for breakfast.

I especially love the Rib Eye breakfast steak because A) it’s delicious, B) it’s affordable, and C) I don’t get the odd stares here that I do at other places when I crave a steak for breakfast. Bill Smith's understands!

The staff is extremely friendly. The generous slice of country ham that came with my eggs was really tender. My brother ordered a western omelet, which was packed with plenty of vegetables and meat. I can’t wait to return and explore the lunch and dinner options. This place is a true Texas icon and a real treasure.

This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. It has the authentic feel of a 1950s diner, and it delivers exactly what you expect. It’s the best around! The staff is fantastic, but there’s one standout who has truly captured our hearts—Candy. She’s full of energy and personality, and you either love her or hate her. We, for one, absolutely adore her! This is a unique and cool place to get your breakfast. Think Route 66 or something out of Cars. The review is a 4.0 and not 5 because (1) The steak for the steak and eggs is AWFUL. They don't even try, so you should not either and (2) they are not picky about who they hire as waitstaff. Sometimes (2) is a colloquial plus. Just as often its not. So: no steak, bring cash, good luck with your server.

Bill Smith's Cafe is a staple in McKinney, Texas. It's the perfect example of a classic greasy spoon diner, featuring a short-order cook with prison tattoos working behind the grill (at least during my visit). The food was tasty, though! I ordered a cheeseburger, which was cooked perfectly, and the buns were placed on the grill alongside the meat, making them warm, toasty, and nicely greasy. The fries were decent, but they didn't quite measure up to those at Scotty P's. If you're in the mood for traditional diner fare, you can't go wrong with this place.

"Our family has been ordering home delivery from this 54th Street location for over a year now and we have never had an issue with delivered food. My kids love the street kid burgers and waffle fries. Other household favorites include the burgers, steaks, gyro, and gringo dip. We've eaten at location twice. The location is about what you would expect from current day sports leaning bars. Lots of TVs, especially around the bar, an eclectic mix of memorabilia on the walls, and Americana leaning music, mostly country and classic Rock with the random top 40 from fifteen years ago mixed in.The first time the service was good. There was a slight mix up when our steak came out and I received another customer's well done steak, and he received my medium steak. The server noticed the mix up immediately and took both steaks back immediately. We were a few tables apart under the same server in the same section. Mistakes happen, the steak was re made, and it turned out tasty. Slight inconvenience but overall the food was good, service was excellent, and there was nothing to complain about. The manager came by and apologized all over himself, but we assured him everything was okay, that it was just a mistake, etc. We were not unhappy at all and the manager was very apologetic. Our must recent trip we were seated under a very attentive server. She took our order promptly, made sure we always had drinks more than half full on the table, and was very quick to remedy any minor issues. Unfortunately the quality of the steak on this trip was just not good. I'm not sure if the restaurant has made any alterations to the recipes being used to prep meat in the kitchen, but there was an overwhelming, unpleasant smoke flavor to the steak. I hesitated to send the steak back, but the server insisted another steak be cooked. I do not like to send food back, I apologized for inconveniencing her and the kitchen, but the smoke flavor was so overwhelming the steak was really inedible. When the steak was replaced it was cooked closer to order temperature and the flavor was a little less smokey, but still undesirably strong. It was good enough to eat most of and we took the leftovers home. After warming the remainder to eat at home it was quite rare on the end that was left uneaten in the restaurant. The steak was ordered medium and after reheating at home there were dark red areas in the middle of the steak. The overall texture was also not great, nearly like it was steamed and the sear was non existent. The server was, again, awesome. She apologized, informed the manager, discussed a course of action with the kitchen, and did her best to make it right. But at the end of the day the steak was just disappointing. I had hoped the manager would stop by so I could ask what changed regarding the steak preparation, but at no point did he stop by our table. Gringo dip was still great, my husband enjoyed his gyro, but the steak was a giant disappointment.Overall, despite the great service, the food being sub par at a restaurant (and in this economy) makes me think we should try another local steak and burger joint. : sad to say because we had really grown to like this place."
