"The concept of combining breakfast and pies is a wonderful one. I visited a restaurant in Pittsburgh about 5-8 years ago in the Oakland/Bloomfield neighborhood, possibly called Breakfast with Pie. While the breakfast was satisfactory, the pies did not live up to expectations. It's a major letdown when pies are featured in the restaurant's name. However, this place exceeded expectations with delicious pie slices available for dine-in or takeout, as well as standout breakfast options. The corned beef hash and eggs had a unique flavor that set it apart, complemented by red skin potatoes and four slices of rye toast, making it a filling meal that could skip lunch. Although our preferred pie choices were not available for takeout, with over a dozen pies on offer and enjoying most of them, it wasn't a huge disappointment. The service was excellent, and a helpful tip is that they also ship whole pies."

"I have really always enjoyed this restaurant and visited on many occasions. After this last visit however I will never be returning. After ordering a bottle of wine, my friend and I each ordered a steak and they both came back over done. OK, this sometimes happens. Within a minute of our server returning the steaks, a bespeckled “manager “/bartender came to me at the table with my steak on a plate. It was cut in half. He told me that the chef wanted to know if this is how I wanted my second steak cooked because she didn’t want to send out the wrong steak again, intimating that it was properly cooked. It wasn’t. He was smug, arrogant, sarcastic and just plain rude. I was embarrassed and said I would just take the steak back. He said no no no as he took it away, saying would keep it warm for me in the kitchen. When my friend’s half inch thick $50 steak came back properly cooked, mine, of course, was in two pieces, charred beyond recognition and basically inedible. What kind of chef would send something like this to a table? Since both of our steaks had to be refired, we ate our two sides while waiting for the steak to come back. When I couldn’t eat my steak, the server said she would take it off our bill. Much to our chagrin, when we received the bill, my two “sides “ were added to the bill at $10. The owner never came out, we were not apologized to, and were made to feel like we way out of line for asking for a properly cooked steak and we were bothering them. . On the way out, I stopped to talk to the “manager”/bartender about being charged for the apps and about the situation and he was belligerent, mocked and interrupted me, and made fun of me. Stunning! Never again! You would think an owner/chef of a restaurant would be interested in keeping customers, not turning them away to leave a bad review. The owner and “manager/bartender huddled over the bill; she was aware. It was a disgrace. Do yourself a big favor Go down the street to Bascule for dinner. We ate there the night before and the food and service were wonderful. The menu is much more imaginative, and the prices are better. They also have steak. Food: 1 Service: 1"

"Our waiter started off strong, giving us detailed descriptions of the day's specials. However, after delivering my husband's iced tea, he disappeared, and we had to wait until we spotted him again to ask for sugar. Notably, sugar and condiments weren’t on the tables. We ordered two appetizers: steak tartare and mussels, which arrived quickly. The salad came almost immediately after, which was a bit rushed for our liking. I mentioned we weren’t in a hurry, but perhaps that didn’t help. While our dinners were served at a reasonable pace, they were delivered by a different server. This was fine; it was great to see the staff supporting each other. We enjoyed both our appetizers and main dishes, although my husband wasn't fond of the bread that came with the steak tartare, finding it too crunchy and distracting from the meat. My duck was cooked perfectly and incredibly tender, and my husband was pleased with his veal. At this point, however, our waiter was absent. He didn’t check in to see if everything was satisfactory or if we needed anything during our meals. We didn’t see him again until we were finished, surrounded by empty plates. He brought us the check, suggesting we might not have room for dessert but invited us to inquire about options. We ordered coffee, but then he vanished once more. Being tucked away in the corner made it hard to spot him. They seemed to be understaffed, as he didn’t come by to pick up our empty plates or check on us. Given that we had plans after dinner, we decided to settle the bill without ordering dessert. I was quite disappointed in the service overall; we felt both rushed and neglected. Had there been an issue with our meals, which thankfully there wasn’t, it would have gone unaddressed. My husband did manage to ask the server who delivered our meals for a refill on iced tea, but he never received it. Although I had conveyed how much I enjoyed this restaurant and the lovely town, the service this evening felt subpar. It is disheartening, especially since we drove two hours specifically to eat here. I appreciate that the kitchen staff did a fantastic job efficiently calling the orders and delivering the food. While my husband was less than thrilled about sitting close to the kitchen, I enjoyed it as it felt like dinner and a show. The chefs were professional and worked seamlessly together, creating a tidy kitchen environment. Overall, we just wish our server had paid more attention to us during our meal."
