"The restaurant has a great location with outdoor seating, but I was not impressed with the food or service. I placed an order over the phone at 6:46 and was told it would take about 40 minutes. The sushi rolls we ordered tasted mostly of unagi sauce, with browned and soft avocado that seemed old. The heavy-handed sauce overpowered the seafood inside the rolls, making it difficult to taste other ingredients like cucumber or crab. The tempura rolls were cold and soggy by the time we ate them in our hotel room. The service was slow and I felt like a bother waiting for the servers. Overall, I would not return to this restaurant and would explore other sushi places in Capitola if I visit the area again. It was disappointing considering the restaurant's proximity to the beach. I have had better experiences in other coastal towns and hope this was just a one-time occurrence in this area."

Ate outside. Food was just ok. Lots of vegetarian options. Diet coke tasted off. Sushi had no flavor. The rice was not flavored, was bland. Waitress was lovely and attentive.Food: 3/5

The nachos here are outstanding—innovative, unique, and absolutely flawless. Since nachos became popular, I've seen many restaurants attempt to make them, yet most have fallen short. However, everything else I've sampled on the menu has been excellent as well.

I have been coming here for years, food is always stellar! But tonight we had the best service from Mariah! She served us exactly the way we needed to be served this evening. Attentive without being overbearing, gave us space without leaving us alone too long, food came out when we needed it, and she is funny. Great night, amazing service! Thank you Mariah!

I've visited this restaurant a few times on the weekends, and while it has been good, it hasn't quite reached greatness. Today, my friends and I came for an early dinner to celebrate something small. I requested a spot on the patio since the weather was lovely. Our server, Mariah, was fantastic! The food was delicious, but the service exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be returning! Mariah made our Monday feel like a Saturday. View menu

Akira is an excellent Japanese restaurant that exceeds expectations in every aspect. It can get quite busy, so it's best to arrive early as wait times can reach up to 45 minutes, a testament to its popularity. I tried the Hamachi Kama ($10), Ninja Sticks ($6), and a Bento box with steak and tempura combo ($25). They offer an all-day happy hour on Mondays with discounts on select items, including appetizers, beer, and sake. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you!

I recently visited Akira for the first time and was extremely impressed! The sashimi, sushi, and teriyaki steak were all delicious. I ordered them in a Bento box, which came with 7 pieces of sashimi and 4 pieces of nigiri sushi. It was a great way to try a variety of dishes without having to order them separately. The chef's selection of nigiri and sashimi was excellent, including hamachi, salmon, and albacore tuna. I will definitely be returning to Akira in the future.

The service at this restaurant was excellent— I truly appreciate the servers. They were top-notch. However, the sushi rolls were disappointing. Perhaps we just made poor choices. The staff kindly removed one of the rolls from our bill because we did not want to eat it (kogan—it was overly saucy and mushy), which was a nice gesture. Overall, the atmosphere was enjoyable, and I thank the staff for their hospitality. It seems that other customers with different orders were satisfied with their meals. View menu

We went on a Saturday afternoon, about 3 pm. Thankfully, they don't close in the afternoon before dinner, as most sushi places do. I also didn't realize they have happy hr with discounts every day. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas, which is always nice when the weather cooperates. The restaurant is always clean. Our server was friendly and helpful with recommendations. The sushi was fresh and was really, really good. Portions were plentiful. Pricing is good for the quality, selection, and portions. It was worth the drive over the 152. I will keep coming back!

One of our favorite restaurants, and our go to Japanese food, especially the sushi. We have tried a variety of food and it consistently great. And the sushi selection is amazing, including a large variety of vegetarian and vegan choices. In this trip, we had a combination of sushi, seafood udon, and tonkatsu, which maybe our least favorite. We sat outside and with the heater it was perfect. Inside seating was available, and the restaurant is comfortable and relaxing. The staff are super helpful and nice. It will continue to be our go to Sushi and Japanese food place.Vegetarian options: and vegan sushi roles and dinner entres
